Nocturnal Reverie
“Just trust your instincts. I could open a tab and enter a lavish world.” She murmured, removing the sheets she had been laying under, “I Just crave a bath of luxuries.”
Kim had always wanted to experience the exclusive world of Paragon City’s upper class, where prestige and money were everything.Paragon City’s neon-lit cityscape enticed her. The glamour of the city’s lavish nightlife engulfed her awake as she lay in her small apartment, a golden illusion that seemed to mock the ordinary realities of her daily life.
She thought aloud, grinning, “Virtual reality game will help me get to this level,” and then she threw her sheets off the bed. Just as she was about to wake, she found herself extending herself. Her bedroom and virtual reality game studio are adjacent to each other.
She bowed as she headed to the restroom, saying, “Oops, have to take a shower first before I journey to the world of wonders.”
She heard someone knocking on the door. Her mom was calling. She was still in her pajamas when she rushed to the door to tend to her.
“Mum, it’s Sunday. It’s now appropriate for me to spend as much time as I like sleeping in. I simply want to travel to a fantastical place.” She remarked this after answering her mother’s knock on the door.
“Sunday is church day, as you are aware? Your dreams will come true with God’s assistance. In an hour, I will return to give you another call. Kim, don’t keep me waiting. That meaning is evident to you.” With a bone-tired moan, she slammed the door on her mother.
“This child I gave birth to is so annoying,” Kate, Kim’s mother, remarked, shaking her head. Kim hurried inside the restroom.
She visualized herself mingling with the most prominent and powerful people in the city.
Her virtual reality game, which is currently installed at her gaming studio, was the only way for her to feel the tangible nature of what she witnessed. She showered quickly and put on nice clothes as though she was ready to accompany her mother to church. Since her mother had promised to get back to her in an hour, she headed to her game room after that. It was not quite an hour later.
Kim realized that the luxurious grandeur that shimmered just beyond her reach was little compared to her current situation, which consisted of a modest apartment, modest money, and modest existence. But the city’s nocturnal charm was too strong to resist, luring her farther and further into the realm of the fantastical.
She sat in her virtual reality game chair Egg Machine as soon as she entered her gaming room and started playing her game, which opened her eyes to a whole new universe.
Kim’s thoughts wandered, creating a rich tapestry of imagined situations as the neon lights of the city danced over her bedroom walls. She imagined that she was flying through the busy streets. The sleek marble flooring of the city’s most prestigious institutions sounds like her fancy heels tapping against them.
She could practically feel the weight of the diamond necklace around her thin neck and the coolness of the champagne flute in her hand as she interacted with the wealthy residents of the city.
Kim could virtually smell the rich canapes that would be served on silver trays and hear the sultry, plotting whispers of the affluent guests as they talked about their most recent business endeavors and social events.
Playing along, she would find herself giggling at herself. Her front door was left unlocked.
“Kim.. Kim.. I hope you are not in your VR gaming room again,” her mother yelled as she walked in. The VR game had already overpowered Kim, so she was unable to hear her.
“What should I do with this child? She values the games more than she does church.” Standing outside the door to the game room, she mumbled. She was unable to get inside. Rather, she witnessed her daughter scream and laugh by herself in her game room.
When she eventually forced the door open, she discovered her daughter in her church garb and on her VR game egg chair. She was aware that she was expecting her. She observed her daughter, who didn’t appear to be upset by her mother being in her gaming den. In reality, she was unable to see her.
Kate emerged and removed the virtual reality headgear from her head. It was then that she became aware of her mother’s attendance.
“I was in a world that was very different from mine. It seemed almost real to me. A world of opportunity that drew girls like me in with the prospect of a life beyond what we could have imagined.” As she persuaded her mother to allow her to play the game and keep losing herself in her imagination, she said.
“No, no, not at this moment. After we go home from church. You will then use the exact spot to play the VR game. What a baby you are. Such a little child, acting like you’re not nineteen.” Kate chastised her before heading to the door in the hopes that Kim would follow.
“Am I the reason you attend church services? Mom, get over it—church is dull. You are aware that I prefer to stay out of the spotlight.” Still seated in her virtual reality egg chair, she let out a shout. Kate turned her head to glance back. She had considered that Kim would be willing to accompany her.
“Were you not ready to go with me?” she asked in reaction to Kim’s outburst. “Take a look at your attire. It gives you a motherly appearance.”
“I am entitled to this.” After hearing her daughter say, “I want to spend this day completely lost in my fantasy world,” her mother nodded. She was sorry for persuading her daughter to follow her rather than offering her an option. Whether to follow her into her gaming den or let her stay there.
“I apologize for treating you rudely. To be clear, you are correct. You’re entitled to certain things. After saying, “Please clean the house for me when you are done playing the games,” she approached Kim and planted a kiss. She then departed, still clutching her VR goggles.
Kim grinned, seeing herself in her own world of luxury, a flawlessly styled and dazzling vision that would make everyone around her envious and adoring.
“As like I don’t have a life to pick. Church, church, church. When I return from my imaginary world, I shall see the church. I think to gain deeper insight into the tasks I intend to undertake.” As she put on her VR headset, she murmured. Kim landed in a fantastical realm.
Kim’s fantasy was getting more vivid and demanding as the distant beat of the metropolis continued to throb. It was as if she could almost feel the weight of the high-end designer purse that would be a symbol of her newfound money and prestige, and smell the thick, enticing scent of expensive perfumes.
Kim was drawn more and further into the fantastical world by the appeal of Paragon City’s nightlife, which was like a siren’s call. In her heart, she realized that the life she had imagined was nothing more than a luxurious fantasy that would never come true. However, the allure of that illusion was indisputable, posing a threat to her basic existence.
With the city’s seemingly limitless possibilities, Kim’s mind was racing as she tossed and turned. The excitement of such a life was almost tangible.
Not yet gone was her mother. Hoping Kim might reconsider and accompany her, she turned back to bid her farewell.
“After service, we will go shopping. I will buy you a new VR headset with the updated software. You will love it.” she said but Kim realized the first tendrils of dawn began to creep across the sky. She found herself confronted with the harsh reality of her circumstances. This is due to her mother’s presence, which interrupted her fantasy. The neon-lit mirage began to fade, and she was left with the stark contrast between the life she had imagined and the one she actually lived. She took out the headset and then felt the weight of her modest existence pressed down upon her, a constant reminder of the gulf that separated her from the opulent splendor that had so captivated her mind.
“That has such a wonderful tone. Why don’t you come back and pick me up, so we can go shopping together?” She yelled at her mother, who continued nodding in response, “I mean, do you want me to do what you want in order for you to do something for me?”
While Kim wanted to stay in her fantasy world, Kate sincerely wanted her child to accompany her on her adventure.
“My greatest friend is you. Together, we shall play the game. I also wish to explore the realm of fantasy.” She spoke while feeling embarrassed to be around her child. Kim felt bad for her mother. She moved closer to her mother after getting up from the virtual reality gaming Egg chair.
“It will be enjoyable,” she remarked, giving her a hug. “Then, let’s head out. Why don’t we act sooner?” After giving her a hug, she stated this. They proceeded to her mother’s car in the garage located in the basement of the apartment complex where they both reside. As Kim boarded the elevator from the eighth level, she looked at her mother.
But even as the surreal fog started to fade, Kim could not help but be drawn to Paragon City’s vibrant nightlife. It was as if the city itself had enchanted her, a spell that was so alluring it would not let go. She was secretly aware that her opulent dream was only a mirage, a transient delusion that would never fully come true. Still, the need to live that life, even for a brief while, bit her.
“What? Why are you staring at me that way?” Seeing how Kim was staring at her, Kate inquired.
Kim sighed long and wearily. She was aware that the day ahead would bring with it the same pattern and repetition that had characterized her existence for so long. But even as she gave in to the comfortable routines of her life, a glimmer of resolve burned within her. There was a flicker of optimism somewhere, deep within her heart; the dream that maybe, just maybe, her golden vision might come true.
“Not a thing. I’m simply in my own imaginary realm.” When the elevator arrived to the basement, she said.
“I think we ought to go shopping, so we can return and spend some time in our imaginary world.” She leaped on her mother upon hearing her remarks and extended a deep embrace. Even the individuals evaluating the elevator came to a stop and gazed at their embrace.
“My friend, let’s get this done. We make the greatest daydreamers, you and me.” As the two made their way to the car, Kim excitedly yelled, leaving onlookers to wonder what she was shouting about. Thus, they went shopping for the gaming materials rather than attending church as Kate had requested. Then they made the trip back home. In Kim’s gaming area, they neatly packed all of their gaming supplies. Alongside Kim, Kate now got a VR game egg chair.
