CHAPTER 40 By the time the sun set, the men had scraped clean the area the barn had once occupied, leaving only piles of rubble to show it ever existed. They’d had stacked salvageable farm implements under a tree. The plows, although blackened, were still usable. The biggest loss besides the structure itself was the tractor. Two men hooked onto it with ropes and pulled it away using one of their trucks. And now everyone was gone. It was as if a whirlwind had passed through.
