CHAPTER 1
Sophie took a deep breath as she stepped out of the elevator and into the bustling lobby of the corporate building where she was starting her new job as an executive assistant. She smoothed her hands down her sleek black pantsuit and checked her reflection in the mirrored wall, making sure her auburn hair was neatly pulled back and her makeup was still in place.
Sophie had dreamed of working at this prestigious firm for years, and she was determined to make a good impression from the start. She checked the time on her phone and saw that she had a few minutes to spare, so she decided to take a quick walk around the lobby to get her bearings.
As she walked, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe at the grandeur of the building. The marble floors shone beneath her feet, and the high ceilings were adorned with glittering chandeliers. She felt a bit nervous as she passed by the impeccably dressed receptionists, but they greeted her with a warm smile and directed her to the elevator.
Sophie took the elevator to the 32nd floor, where she was greeted by a large sign bearing the company’s name. She took a deep breath and stepped out of the elevator, making her way down the hallway to her new office.
The door was open, and Sophie took a deep breath before stepping inside. She was met with a spacious, modern office with large windows that looked out over the city skyline. There was a large desk in the center of the room, and a man was seated behind it, typing away at his computer.
“Good morning, I’m Sophie, the new executive assistant,” she said, trying to sound confident.
The man looked up at her, and Sophie was taken aback by how handsome he was. He had dark, slicked-back hair and piercing blue eyes. He was wearing a sharp suit that fit him perfectly, and Sophie couldn’t help but feel a twinge of nervousness in his presence.
“I’m your boss, Mr. Jameson,” he said, standing up from his desk and walking over to her. He extended his hand, and Sophie took it, feeling a small jolt of electricity as their skin met.
“It’s nice to meet you,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady.
Mr. Jameson’s grip was firm, and he held her hand just a beat longer than necessary. Sophie quickly pulled away, trying to hide her discomfort.
“I trust you had no trouble finding your way here,” he said, walking back to his desk and gesturing for her to take a seat in the chair across from him.
“No, it was easy enough,” Sophie said, taking a seat and trying to relax.
“I expect nothing but the best from my employees,” Mr. Jameson said, fixing her with an intense gaze.
Sophie felt a bit unnerved by his stare, but she tried to remain professional.
“I’ll do my best to exceed your expectations,” she said, smiling.
Mr. Jameson nodded, and for a moment, there was silence between them. Sophie took the opportunity to look around the office, taking in the sleek décor and the photos of Mr. Jameson with various high-profile clients.
“So, let’s go over your responsibilities,” Mr. Jameson said, breaking the silence.
Sophie pulled out her notebook and pen, ready to take notes.
“You’ll be responsible for managing my schedule, taking phone calls, organizing meetings, and other administrative tasks as needed,” he said.
Sophie nodded, jotting down notes as he spoke.
“I expect you to be available at all times, and to anticipate my needs before I even ask,” he said, his voice taking on a commanding tone.
Sophie nodded, feeling a bit overwhelmed by his expectations, but she knew that she had to prove herself in this new position.
“I understand,” she said, trying to sound confident.
“Good. I expect you to be professional at all times and to maintain a high level of confidentiality,” Mr. Jameson said, leaning back in his chair.
Sophie nodded again, feeling like she was being put through a test.
“I have no tolerance for mistakes or incompetence, so I hope you’re up for the challenge,” he said, looking at her expectantly.
Sophie felt a twinge of annoyance at his dismissive tone, but she pushed it down and forced a smile.
“I’m ready to work hard and meet your expectations,” she said, hoping that he would see her determination.
“Excellent. I’m sure we’ll work well together,” he said, offering her a small smile.
Sophie nodded, feeling a bit relieved that the meeting was over. She stood up, gathering her notebook and pen.
“I’ll let you get settled in today, and we can start fresh tomorrow,” Mr. Jameson said, standing up as well.
“Thank you, Mr. Jameson,” Sophie said, feeling a bit relieved that she could leave.
As she walked out of the office, she couldn’t help but feel like she had just passed some sort of test. Mr. Jameson was clearly a demanding boss, but Sophie was determined to rise to the challenge.
As she made her way to her new desk, Sophie couldn’t help but notice how other employees were looking at her. She could feel their curious stares and whispers, and she wondered if it was because of Mr. Jameson’s reputation.
She had heard rumors about how possessive and rude he could be, but she tried not to let them cloud her judgment. She was determined to make her own impressions and not let the rumors dictate her relationship with her boss.
As the day went on, Sophie worked hard to get acquainted with her new responsibilities. She took phone calls, scheduled meetings, and even managed to fix a scheduling conflict for Mr. Jameson.
As the day drew to a close, Sophie felt a sense of accomplishment wash over her. She had managed to survive her first day, and she felt like she was already getting the hang of things.
As she gathered her things to leave, she heard a knock on the door. She turned around to see Mr. Jameson standing there, a serious look on his face.
“Miss Davis, I need to speak with you,” he said, his voice firm.
Sophie felt a twinge of anxiety in the pit of her stomach, wondering what he could want. She followed him into his office, feeling a sense of déjà vu as she took a seat in front of his desk.
“I need you to cancel all my appointments tomorrow,” he said, cutting straight to the point.
Sophie blinked, surprised by the sudden request.
“Is everything okay?” she asked, concerned.
“It’s personal,” he said, his tone brooking no further questions.
Sophie nodded, feeling like she had no choice but to comply. She made a mental note to reschedule everything and hoped that it wouldn’t cause too much inconvenience.
“Of course, I’ll take care of it,” she said, gathering her things and getting up to leave.
“Thank you, Miss Davis,” Mr. Jameson said, his eyes following her as she left the office.
Sophie couldn’t help but wonder what was going on with her boss. She knew that he was a private person, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss.
As she made her way out of the office, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of intrigue about Mr. Jameson. She knew that he was a demanding and possessive man, but..
