CHAPTER 6

After their enjoyable conversation, Theo began to speak more calmly to Sofie. They talked about various topics, including their hobbies and interests, and they found that they had a few things in common. Theo found himself enjoying her company, and he was surprised at how easy it was to talk to her. Sofie, on the other hand, was still a bit guarded around him, but she was starting to warm up to him.

As they were talking, Jack arrived to take Sofie out for lunch. Theo’s demeanor changed instantly, and he became tense and cold. He asked Sofie to come back to his office and gave her an unnecessary task to do. Sofie was taken aback and frustrated, but she had no choice but to comply with his demands.

After Jack left, Sofie confronted Theo about his behavior. She asked him why he was being so possessive and rude, and he threatened to fire Jack if she didn't listen to him. Sofie was appalled by his behavior and questioned why he was acting that way. Theo refused to answer her questions and dismissed her, leaving Sofie feeling angry and hurt.

She had no other choice but to sit down and complete the task that Theo had given her. As she worked, she couldn’t help but think about how Theo’s behavior was affecting her job and her personal life. She wondered if there was something more going on with him, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. Eventually, she finished the task and went home, feeling frustrated and confused.

Sofie arrived home and found her brother watching TV in the living room. He turned his head to look at her as she entered.

“Hey, sis. How was work today?” he asked.

Sofie sighed and plopped down on the couch next to him. “It was alright, I guess. Just had a bit of a run-in with my boss again.”

“Uh-oh. What happened this time?” her brother asked, turning off the TV to give her his full attention.

“He’s just being impossible. I had to cancel plans with a friend because he gave me some last-minute task to do, and then he wouldn’t even tell me why. And the worst part is, he threatened to fire my friend if I didn’t cancel on him.”

“That’s messed up,” her brother said, shaking his head in disbelief. “Have you tried talking to HR or something? That can’t be legal.”

Sofie shrugged. “I don’t know. I don’t want to make a big deal out of it, you know? I just have to deal with it for now.”

Her brother looked at her with concern. “Sofie, you can’t let him treat you like that. You’re worth more than that.”

Sofie sighed again, feeling a bit defeated. “I know. It’s just hard when you need the job, you know?”

“I get it. But still, you shouldn’t have to put up with that kind of treatment. Maybe you should start looking for a new job.”

Sofie nodded, considering his suggestion. “Maybe you’re right. I’ll think about it.”

They sat in silence for a few moments, lost in their own thoughts. But then her brother spoke up again.

“So, did you have a good time with Jack at lunch?” he asked, trying to change the subject.

Sofie smiled, grateful for the distraction. “Yeah, it was really nice. We went to this little Italian place down the street and had some great food. And he’s just so easy to talk to, you know? I really like him.”

Her brother grinned. “Sounds like a date to me.”

Sofie rolled her eyes. “It wasn’t a date. Just two friends having lunch.”

“Uh-huh, sure,” her brother teased. “Well, let me know when the wedding is.”

Sofie playfully punched him in the arm, feeling a bit lighter now. “Shut up, you. I’m going to bed. Good night.”

“Good night, sis,” he replied, as she headed to her room, hoping for a better day tomorrow.
