Chapter 20: Monster Subjugation IV

#SFX: Wolf Howl.
The Three-Eyed Wolf howl once again into the sky, before started to charge towards the shield wall with great speed.
Boom, boom, boom, boom.
The ground shock with every steps of the Three-Eyed Wolf, causing some of the knight's legs to become numb.
"Caine, stand behind me." The Earl stepped in front of Caine while wielding his sword with both of his hands.
Caine, who had already killed a bunch of high-level wolves now stood behind the Earl, with his cross bow loaded.
The sharp end of the bolt that Caine had loaded in his cross bow shone brightly for a nanosecond, but nobody noticed it or rather nobody had the time to pay attention to it.
Bang!
The wolf crashed head on towards the shield wall, instantly breaking the formation. All of the knights momentarily got pushed back, some got brutally knocked back.
Whoosh! whoosh! whoosh!
Many arrows started to rain down onto the wolf, but none of them managed to get pass it's furs, most of them got knocked off and trampled by the wolf. As expected of a King beast!
"Spears!" The Earl ordered.
Six spearmen momentarily shove their spears at the beast from all side, but the only damage they dealt on the beast was a light skin wound. It didn't even pierce through its scar!
The Earl swung it's sword towards one of the beast's large legs, but all it left was a light mark.
The beast became furious and violently stumped it's foot onto the ground, causing everyone to simultaneously stagger back.
"Aim for its eyes!" The Earl once again gave out an order, causing the knights to take out their bows and aimed for the beast's eyes.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Another set of arrows shot towards the beasts, this time it was aimed toward its eyes. However, just as the arrows were about to reach its eyes, the beast swung its legs, causing all of the arrows to either get knocked off or snapped.
"Damn it!"
"It's agility is way too fast!"
"We can't get near it too!"
Seeing the knights panicking, the beast made a smirk like face, exposing its shiny teeth.
Whoosh!
#SFX: Wolf's howl!
The beast let out a painful howl after suddenly getting hit by a steel bolt. The steel bolt manged to catch the wolf of guard and pierced straight through one of its eyes, despite the beast closing its thick eye lids to cover its eyes.
The one who shot the steel bolt was none other than Caine, who reinforced the steel bolt with creation magic otherwise even if the arrow managed to reach the beast, it wouldn't even be able to get past its eye lid.
The beast's howl started to quieten as more bloods started to seep out of it's tattered eye lid. The arrow must have damaged its brain, cause the beast started to run around controllably even going as far as crashing into the trees.
The knights began to step back away from the beast to prevent themselves for becoming a victim of the beast's uncontrollable violent acts.
Everyone gotten a good enough distance and just observe the beast from afar, until it finally beat itself out and its breath became quieter.
"I-It's dead. The King beast is dead!" A brave knight went up to the beast and checked it's pulse.
With that, the monster subjugation finally came to an end. Since the size of the King beast was unable to fit inside the spatial bag, we decided to return first then send a couple of knights alongside with a larger cart.
When the knights transferred the body of the King beast back to the city, everyone in the street became horrified, the thought of the King beast attacking the city with its minion would surely cause a lot of deaths, but seeing that the beast is already slaughtered, they all heaved a sigh of relief.
Though, the story of Caine taking down the king beast became doubtful to the public eyes, all of the knights in the garrison were all told the same story over and over again by the knights who participated in the subjugation. So, Caine's reputation increased among the knights who served under the Earl.
As for why it was still doubtful to the public, that's because the information of how Caine is talentless and mana-less unexpectedly leaked out, despite Charlotte's effort to supress it in the past. It was only leaked now, must have most likely because the servant started to become discontent with Caine bringing Nina, a beastkins to serve under the Earl's household as a maid.
Plus, who would believe a child about six years old is able to kill a high-level beast, let alone a King beast. Only the knights believed it because of their trust that they developed with their comrades.
