Chapter 36: Cursed Undead I

Under the escort of the soldiers, the students managed to return back to the academy safely.
The students were all gossipping and trying to speculate what happened to the five soldiers that went into the ruin.
It didn't take long for the higher ups to give out an 'hush' order to the academy. No one was allowed to speak about it in the academy nor are they allowed to speak it outside of the academy, anyone for does will be charged of treason.
However, that didn't stop the students from secretly talking about it in their dorms. Well, as long as the news of the incident doesn't escape and reach the general population's ears, then it should be fine.
After Caine returned back to his dorm room, he opened up the GUI World Map to preserve the situation.
The previous five Cursed Undeads had now increased to thirty. What's more there are six Cursed Undeads in the Royal Capitals, and according to the map, they are currently located in a desolated and secure part of the capital.
'Mhm, they must be the merchants that Lucas talked about. It seems they have awakened from their coma and also turned into undead.'
Caine hesitated a minute before finally deciding to teleport back to the Old Ruins. This time however, he used Illusion magic to turn himself invisible and erased his presence by creating a small domain around him with Space magic.
When Caine teleported at the outskirts of the Old Ruin, Caine instantly put on the Skywig and flew up into the sky.
With the height of about 300 metres, Caine was able to perceive the entire scene up from above.
The guards managed to create a barricade using Earth magic to surround the entire Old Ruin.
It seems the undeads were unable to use any magic and so they were unable to escape. However, they were also undefeatable.
Physical attacks and magics seem to have no effect for their semi-transparent body, it would all just go through them, and if any of the guards get touched by them, the guards would instantly turn into one of them just like a curse.
From the look of it, when the guard gets touched by the undead, their body would momentarily turn semi-transparent just like the rest. However, this was different from your usual undead.
Normally, in order for one to turn undead, their unresting souls would have to leave their body when they die, but these undead seem to have directly affected their body. This could mean that the undead are still alive and could still be saved!
'If I'm not wrong, then destroying the painting that Lucas was talking about should fix all this, but the location of that painting is still unknown...' Caine pondered for a moment before he realised something, 'The merchants that went into a coma should have all been sent to a hospital, but looking at the location of the six undead in the capital, they seem to be in a desolated facility.'
The chance of the merchants being transferred to a research facility after the discovery is highly likely, and the chance of the painting being in the same research facility as the merchant is also highly likely.
With that, Caine momentarily teleports back to Royal Capital, where the facility that the six undead is currently held and hopefully the painting too.
Due to the risk of teleporting inside a wall, Caine made sure to teleport in a plain and empty area first before making his way to the facility on foot, howerever, what Caine doesn't know is that the magic would have auto corrected the teleportation coordinate, so there will never be an incident of two overlapping in the process of teleporting.

The door to the facility momentarily opened and a man in his 30s came out. The man had a black mustache and a sharp face, he looks incredibly intimidating, especially those heavy round glasses that he is wearing.
Alongside the man was a young man holding a clipboard, hastily following behind.
"Professor Yam, just what might these be. Why are all the soldiers that turned undead, appeared in the painting?" The young man asked while following behind Professor Yam.
"Mhm, I only have a vague idea-"
Bang!
Caine took this chance and entered the facility before the doors shut. From the conversation he just heard, the painting seems to really be located with these six undead.
