Chapter 38: Kayda

831 Words
The woman continued to look at Caine with a shocked and cautious face, "How did you know?" Caine shook his head and replied, "Like I said, before you ask others, shouldn't you introduce yourself first?" The woman once again bit her lips in anger, 'I have never seen a human who is so cocky while knowing that I'm an ancient dragon!' After a few moments of silence, the woman inwardly sighed and finally spoke, "My name is Kayda, as you already know I am an ancient dragon. Well, currently an undead one." Caine squinted his eyes and asked, "By 'currently', do you mean that you are planing to revive yourself?" Kayda took a long pause, before finally replying, "Yes." "I assume that you were using the Cursed Undead to generate enough mana for you to create your new fleshy body." "...That's right, it's the only way to live again." Kayda hesitated a moment before finally proceeded to explain, "Ever since I lost my fleshy body, I have been trapped in this painting for more than 500 years. I can only stay within 500 metres within the radius of the painting, otherwise I will really die. If it wasn't for those silly people to venture inside the ruin, then I would have only been able to leave 10 metres away." After knowing that she was a dragon, Caine had already garnered that she was the same dragon who attacked this king 500 years ago. What she just said had further proved that he was correct. It's not impossible for powerful entities such as ancient dragons to turn into an undead after getting killed. As long as they have the enough will to want to live, and also an artifact to sustain their powerful soul from dispersing. In this case, the painting is the artifact that sustained her soul from dispersing, the painting must be a national treasure if it was able to sustain the soul of an ancient dragon. Of course, the level of the dragon before they died also affects this. Kayda took a long pause, before finally asking, "Are you going to stop me?" "Yes." Caine replied, causing Kayda to grit her teeths in anger. It was her only chance of revival, but this human boy in front of him is dead on blocking her from doing so, 'I can't beat him either, the power he gathered on his fingers just minutes ago was just too powerful and dominating.' Kayda hung her head low, looking at the floor. She has no choice but to give up for now. That's right, as long as she is still "alive", there is always a chance for revival, even if she has to wait for another five hundred years! "I will stop you from turning more people into undead, but I will also help you." Caine replied. "Sigh, fine I wil-" Kayda paused, she tried to recall what Caine just said, "What was the last bit?" Caine rolled his eyes, 'How can an ancient dragon be this clumsy?!' "I said that I will help you." Caine repeated then continued, "If you were to use your current method of revival, you would at least take about another hundreds of years to gather enough mana even if you managed to turn this entire empire into undeads." "I have enough mana to help generate a new body for you." Caine wasn't lying too, with his current mana capacity, he garner that he could generate the body of an low-level ancient dragon. Even if he couldn't, he could always generate something else, like a human body for her. The reason Kayda couldn't generate a human body or other entities is because she doesn't have the ability 'analyse' like Caine does. If she did, then she could easily create a fleshy vessel to carry her soul. "Y-You will help me?" Kayda finally got out of her shock and asked with anticipation. "Yes, but there are three conditions that you must promise me." Caine replied, causing Kayda's expression to once again turn solemn. "...What are the conditions?" "First, you must return the soul of those people you turned into undead back to their body." "Of course, I will have no use for them if you could really revive me." "Second, you must not destroy or disturb human civilizations." This one was to ensure that she doesn't start destroying the capital or the Earl's territory after this. "...I'll promise you if you do as long as you can revive me." "And lastly, you must sign a Master and Slave contract with me." There was no reason for Caine to help her. If he was to help her then Caine must gain something from this transaction. What's more, Caine currently doesn't have any servant serving him while he is at the Imperial Academy. It would be annoying if people would keep asking them about the same thing over and over again, so having her as a servant would be more convenient. He would be able to do whatever he wants without the risk of it being reported back to Charlotte or others. This way Caine's hobby as an adventurer will not be exposed.
