"Mister Laine, is it alright if you could follow me to somewhere, there's something that I would like to show you." A middle-aged man wearing a pair of glasses came forward and asked. Caine looked at the man for a second before finally replying, "...Um sorry but-" Before Caine could even finish, the man interrupted and spoke in a solemn tone, "Mister Laine, please this is very important and I think you are the only one who is up for this task." The atmosphere quickly fell silent as Caine continued to look straight at the man's eyes. After hesitating for a moment, Caine finally spoke, "Alright, but I can't promise you that I'll be up for whatever task you want me to complete." Caine really didn't want to accept any tasks right now, he still has to return to the Imperial Academy, however, flatout rejecting the man without hearing it out would be considered rude. The man seemed to have understood what Caine's thought and so he replied, "Don't worry, the task really isn't much." Caine didn't pay heed to the man's last remark and just followed the man to a desolated house that is at the edge of the village. The house seems to have taken quite a bit of damage from the previous orc attacks. Rubbles and broken pottery scattered everywhere. Inside the house was also no different, it was all a total mess. The furniture was broken beyond repair. The man proceeded to move away a couple of crates that were in the corner, revealing a trapdoor beneath it. The trapdoor had a lock in it. The man took out the key and unlocked the trapdoor, the man took away the cloth that was beneath it and what was revealed inside surprised Caine. "This..." While Caine was in the midst of shock, the man proceeded to take the item out of the trap door. "It's an artificial wing." The man presented the item that looked like a black-coloured phoenix wing that could be strapped behind a person's back. The feathers of the wing were made out of some kind of light metal, most likely Light Steel. Light Steel are expensive materials that are stronger than regular steel and their weight is much lighter. They are normally used for production of armour and weapons, but they are extremely expensive, only the Royal Family implement them for the Royal Elites. "It's called the Skywig. It's capable of carrying the wearer 400 metres off the ground, powered by small-size beastcores though the wearer can also directly power it with their mana as an emergency backup." The man explained. Caine starred at the wing with sparkling eyes, ever since he reincarnated as a human, he had not once been able fly like he used to in the past. "Where did you get this from?" Light Steel is extremely expensive, even if it was only a small amount to make a dagger, it would still cost about 100 Gold Coins. A wing of this size should at least cost a few kg of gold. The man chuckled then replied, "I made it." Caine frowned, but the man quickly added, "I used to be a former professor working at the Royal Capital. Professor Geron." Caine once again became surprised, he recognised this name, that's because many of the books that he read in the past about magics were written by Professor Geron. "Alright, what is it that you wanted me to do." Caine wanted to get straight to the point, he really wanted to take the wing out for a spin if possible. "To tell you the truth, I was supposed to destroy it, but I just couldn't find the heart to do so. I want you to take it with you, but… Professor Geron's voice turned solemn, "I want you to promise me never to allow this technology to end up in the hand of the noble or royal." "Alright, I promise you." Caine understood Professor Geron's remark, currently the only way for the army to become airborne is to have them ride on tamed beasts such as wyverns, but wyvern are extremely hard to tame and many people would even die in the process. If this technology were to end up in the hands of this empire, it would dramatically affect the country's military power. They would surely use it against other empires, millions will die. "How much do you want for it?" Caine says that, but he actually doesn't have much money on him. However, he is willing to trade something for these wings. Of course he could always secretly analyze it and build it with his creation magic, but as a former proud dragon, how could he resort to such an underhanded method. "Please take it as a thank you for saving my life back then." Professor Geron chuckled. Caine hesitated for a moment before deciding to hand over a blue crystal bead similar to the one he gave to Nina, to the professor. "Here, if you ever get into any trouble, just break the crystal bead." Professor Geron didn't quite understand, but he just nodded his head and accepted the crystal bead. … At the edge of a steep cliff, stood a 8 year's old looking boy with wings. The boy was none other than Caine, wearing his hooded trench coat with a black-coloured phoenix-like wing strapped behind his back. Caine momentarily moved forward and leaped off the cliff, he quickly found himself freefalling straight down, but the wings that were strapped on his back began to flap. Boom! Caine momentarily shot up into the sky with a speed of about 25 miles per hour. 'This feeling… Although it's slow, it still feels great to be able to fly again.' Caine closed his eyes and silently enjoyed the sensation of the winds passing by his face. In just a couple of seconds, he reached the height limit of the wing. He tried going higher, but it just won't allow him, the drag is too strong, if he tried increasing more power then there is a risk of the wing exploding. So he quickly gave up the idea. 'I'll try doing more research and modify it in the future.'
