Chapter 31: Secret of The Orcs II

"Humans! I order you to speak at once!" The monarch's voice once again echoed within the cave. Layla and the others covered their ears to prevent their eardrums from exploding. The voice alone had already made their entire body numb, it can't be helped, most of them are only around level 8, the highest among the four is Layla, with a level of 13. 'Are we all going to die in here?' Although the four of them are all orphans, they still haven't lived long enough yet. They have yet to experience life properly to its fullest! Despite their flaming desire to survive, they saw no way out of this. All of the entrance are now being blocked by the orcs that are at least twice the level of the previouses. In the mids of their panics, Caine suddenly spoke out in annoyance, "Can you just shut up?! Or atleast lower your tone, it's really annoying me now." Shocked! Dumbfounded! Bewildered! Everyone in the cave including Layla and the other three all looked at Caine in confusion. Did he go crazy? Even if Caine was able to wield the element of Space, without enough strength he would never be able to defeat the monarch of that calibre. Just as the four of them thought that he really went crazy, a thought suddenly came to their mind, 'Right, he could easily escape with his Space Magic.' Of course he isn't scared, he could easily escape when the monarch makes its move. While they suffer alone in this deep and gloomy cave, however, they couldn't blame him, it was their choice to follow him in the first place so they understand that Caine has no liability to stay and help them. "Die!!!" The monarch roared while slamming it's giant pickaxe down toward them. Helplessness and despair quickly overwhelms the four of them. They all closed their eyes and embraced each other, this was it. Boom!!! A huge shockwave suddenly shot out at every corner of the dome, threatening to tear the entire cave apart. "I-Impossible!" The voice of the monarch echoed in shock. At this moment, Layla and the other three momentarily opened their eyes, wondering why they are still alive and the meaning behind the word that the giant had just uttered. As soon as they opened their eyes, they saw Caine who was still standing at the same spot as when they closed their eyes, but his hand moved. His right hand is now holding the sharp edge of the giant pickaxe. The spectacle just seemed impossible, how can he stop the full swing of a giant pickaxe swinged by a giant monarch orc? However, what happened next caused them to go beyond being shocked, It was as if the pickaxe became extremely ancient, the pickaxe momentarily crumbled into dust and flew at the direction of where the wind was blowing. "Human! W-What sort of tricks have you used?!" "Answer me! Answer me! Answer me!" At this moment the monarch's mind became berserk. The giant pickaxe that took him years to make and grind the it's sharpness was easily destroyed by Caine in a blink of an eye. He doesn't believe it! He couldn't believe it! The monarch, seeing that Caine refused to speak, he quickly reached out one of his hands to grab Caine. However, just when the hand got near it's target, Caine suddenly leaped forward and with just a blur, Caine instantly zoomed across the giant's arm, and before long Caine arrived at the back of the giant's neck. Caine, suddenly pulled out a sword from a mini vortex floating in the air. It was a golden sword decorated with various colourful gems, the sword was none other than the False Holy Sword, a Peak-Level Demigod Sword gifted by Doom. Spleesh! The head of the monarch slid off its neck and rolled off its giant body. Thump! The body violently fell over, crashing some of the minions that were below it. "Mhm, no this sword stands out too much. It looks pathetic..." Caine Hesitated for a moment before deciding to modify the weapon a little bit. Instead of the bright golden colour, Caine changed it to dark grey. The rainbow-like gems transformed into an ominous purple colour. "Much better." Now the sword became more compatible with his hooded trench coat. All though he doesn't really need to use a sword, it's still better to use one instead of dirtying one's fist. Caine turned back to look at Layla and the others, their gazes were all fixated at the severed giant orcs's head. "L-Layla, that giant was a monarch right?" Sophia suddenly asked, why her eyes were still fixated at the giant's head. Layla who blanked out for a second finally replied, "I-I think so..." "B-But how can it be defeated so easily?" Lewis couldn't help but asked. This was their first time seeing a monarch class beast, but never have they expected the beast to be defeated with just a single move. Caine quickly jumped off the body of the giant orc and quickly killed off all the remaining orcs with his newly modified sword. There weren't many orcs left alive anyway, most of them were either blown to pieces when by the force produced by the pickaxe or crashed under the corpse of the monarch. ... After Caine finished off the remaining orcs, Layla and the other's mind finally relaxed a bit, though they were still a bit shocked by what just happened, afterall a monarch beast isn't something that you can find in your everyday life. "This… Aren't these Crystal Ferns?" Clara suddenly spoke out while inspecting a green crystal-like plant that she found. In fact this plant is everywhere in this cave! "Crystal Ferns?" Caine quickly walked up to her after hearing her uttering the name of the plant. He had already confirmed the name of this particular plant with the GUI, however, the GUI doesn't explain what it does or its usage. "Y-Yes, these plants are used by alchemists to produce potions that grant the consumer night vision in the dark or light protection for the eyes in an area with bright light." Clara explained. "Does this mean that these orcs are consuming these plants to grant themselves protection against the sunlight?" Layla asked. Caine mused for a moment then nodded in response, "It's highly possible. The reason why orc's strength decreases when staying in an area with bright light is because their vision becomes blurry when exposed to bright light. The only way for them to counter this, is to circulate their mana to their eyes to create a protective coating and as a result of this, their Body Strengthening magic won't last long." 'According to Clara, these plants are highly demanded by alchemists', it's usage doesn't only amount to making potions for night vision. However, Clara only read a little about it from a book so she doesn't have an in depth knowledge of it's other usages. 'Perhaps the village could live off by selling these Crystal Ferns. They don't require much water to cultivate and since they grow inside the cave, they will be safe from intense weather.' Of course, they might not earn much from it, but they should earn enough to rebuild the village and sustain themselves.
