CHAPTER FOURTEEN Mackenzie felt like a nomad. The case had taken them pretty much all over the humid state of Virginia and without a central base of operations. As she and Ellington parked in a Burger King parking lot, eating lunch and going over their notes, Mackenzie found that she actually longed for the small yet air-conditioned office of Sheriff Clarke back in Stateton. Still, at the same time, there was something quaint and exciting about working on the run with Ellington. It was the first time she could actually feel a sense of teamwork between them.
