Light
Rural Area December 2011 Multi-coloured sky is showing different shades of blue. It has started to change colour. A few moments ago it was pitch black with white stars which was  symbolising darkness of world, despair and dejection but also the hope which never fails to show itself, the beauty which was just hidden and the life disguised in dark cloak. It pointed to the mockingbird which glows and never fails to sing its songs even in the cruel world, even if the people don’t consider killing it a sin anymore. These are the people responsible for the world’s survival as they are its soul; they are its heart which pumps blood through its veins and keeps it going. And some of them glow with such intensity that the world forgets its darkness. Then, it turned dark blue as those beautiful spirits start to take their actions. This was the point where oceans and sky became one as each was the reflection of the other. Slowly it turned to be a mix of orange, yellow and purple which is now in reign. At this moment people have started to wakeup and life has started to take its shape. Hens are coking and birds are singing. Crows are present at one side, making their distinctive sound. A cool breeze is blowing and the crops have started to move. The yellow and green seedlings are moving in the form of waves as they are a portrait of green sea. Slowly, curtains are lifted from many windows and people start to peep out. A man dressed in loose blue shirt and cream coloured pants is standing in the window of a medium sized house. The house is present in the middle of fields and there is no other house around his at distance of about 6 km. The man has a stern expression on his face and is staring outside as if he has seen something unusual. He kept staring for 20 straight minutes, then he shook his head and put down his cigar in the ashtray which was placed on a wooden table covered with white cloth, which has beautiful white flowers with pearls acting as the centre if those flowers, before leaving the window. He has dark circles around his brown eyes,  his grey hair is messy and his face is pale. It seems as if he had many sleepless nights. There is a strange and deadly aura coming from his side. It is so strong as no one will dare to disobey him. He closes the curtains and the only light which was coming from this only red bricked house vanishes. Away from this house in village more doors start to open slowly as some humans have decided to come out and start a new day and life. Most of the people are dressed in baggy clothes with thermals and shawls to keep the cold wind out. One man, dressed in white cloths with greasy grey hair, combed backwards, is opening the shutter of a shop which has a board titled Aarav’s sweets house. He opens his shop, goes in and then starts to put certain things outside which include a bottle of basmati ghee, three big pans, some big cooking spoons and a big pot with a peach coloured mixture in it. He puts wood logs in stove and the fire starts slowly, then he starts to make his famous Jalebi. Air is filled with its smell and people got a sweet start of the day. A man dressed in light blue cloths with a black sweater is standing beside Aarav and gives him a big smile. His lips moved. “Aarav make some hot delicious jalebi and give them to me. You know that I can’t start my day without this jalebi.” Aarav is looking in the mixture pot and says, “Gaurav Bhai look at yourself, you are eating jalebi and becoming a lado.” Gaurav laughs and say, “Whatever happens, happens for best.” At his response, Aarav laughs really hard and says, “Bhai you will never change.” Gaurav's tone became grave as he asks the question, “Aarav, before you opened your shop, I came here and felt something strange. It felt as if your shop was not in normal condition. And now it feels that there is something wrong, something is different.” Aarav coughs and then clears his throat before saying, “When I came the stool outside my shop was laying on the floor sidewise and there was a big bump in the shutter. I think it is because of the strong gust which blew last night.” Gaurav nodes his head in approval. Aarav continues, “Rakesh Sahib's house is as dark as usual. It has become normal for the house to be this gloomy for a month. Do you know what happened as you live in his relative Sime's house?” Gaurav replies, “A man who cares more about money then family has dark lives. Must be thinking of ways to get more money and land, what else can he think of?” Aarav, “I have heard that he even tried to take away Sime Baba's land through illegal means. Is it true?” “What can we servants say in these family matters. He is just too concerned about himself and in making property for his only son that he has breached all the boundaries” Gaurav replied with his hands folded across his chest then continues, “Bhai you hurry up, I have a lot to do. What do we have to do with this rich people thing and their family matters?” “You are right” says Aarav while getting the Jalebi out if ghee and putting it in the pan full of sugar syrup. Aarav takes out the hot jalebi, puts it in a plate and gives it to Gaurav, who starts to blow it as he holds one piece in his hand. He says, “Aarav Mian you are also going to make such delicious jalebis on our Sime Baba's wedding.” “A servant is to serve my master” says Aarav and both of them burst in laughter. After a pause he asks Gaurav another question , “The wedding is in a few days, but Sime Baba has still not come. When is he coming back?” The words are still in Gaurav’s mouth when both of them heard a loud scream.
