Chapter One
"What is this?!" She flung a handful of pictures at him and they spread across the table and some even hit him in the face. Everyone stared at her like she'd gone crazy but she could care less. She was too angry to think logically right now. She'd stormed out the house in anger after receiving those pictures. She couldn't tell if she was dressed appropriately or not. She'd gotten behind the wheel of her Rolls Royce Phantom silver and drove like a maniac all the way here. Stormed through security and into the conference room where her cheating husband sat at the head of the table. CEO of Sage. She'd been so proud when his father handed over the company. She'd supported him from the beginning, she'd been with him through the dark times. The sleepless nights organising his files, helping however she could. She even took classes to better understand his job and be of more assistance. But now that everything was rosey, he turns around and cheats on her! "What is the meaning of this?" he asks, annoyance clear in his tone as he glares at her. She nearly shrank, fearing she'd really upset him. But she stood her ground, that was the point after all. Besides, she was no longer the daughter of his house help. She was his wife now. "I should be asking you that" She retorts gesturing with her eyes to the pictures all over the table "What is the meaning of this?" He picks up a picture on the table and stares at it with a bored expression. She watched in dismay as he glances over several other pictures on the table but no hint of guilt or remorse or anything to show he'd been caught. Nothing, just his bored expression as he perused the pictures. "You were spying on me?" he asks, his tone silently disapproving. "Th..They came with the mail today in your office" she stuttered, a little confused. His eyes darkened" you went through my stuff?!" What was happening right now? Was this some sort of dream? "Since when has it been a problem for me to go through your stuff"? She questions and he jumps to his feet, so fast he was in her face before his chair fell over. No one had to tell the men to clear out the room. And within seconds, the conference room was clear. "Since you became useless to me" he said and she froze. "What?" it slips out in a whisper. She stood staring at him stunned. Had he really just said that to her? He lets out a silent "Hmm" then perches at the edge of the oval table and folds his hand oven his chest. " Elena and I are getting married" he says and her heart sank. No She couldn't have heard him right "We've been dating for about a year now and she's pregnant" he adds more heart breaking details. She'd succeeded where she'd failed. She would bear him a child. "She must've sent the pictures to urge me to hurry up" he scoffs but his lips curved in a smile. Like she'd sent him flowers and not pictures of them intimately entangled in each other. Vanessa staggered backwards then collapsed into a chair. Her entire world just shattered before her very eyes. Everything she'd hoped for, dashed with just a few words. He'd just admitted to cheating on her, and had no remorse whatsoever. He was even bringing his lover into their home as his new wife. Humiliation washed over her like shower and she was left feeling cold and sick. He'd slept with her multiple times throughout the duration of this new relationship. Counted the calendar with her, obliged her with all her planning. All in an effort to conceive, while still screwing someone else outside. This revelation hit her like a punch to the gut and she bent over heaving. "Don't over think it" he says rubbing her back. His touch used to make her melt but now it felt slimy and disgusting. He'd revealed himself to be the snake he always was. "It'll be like getting a sister" he adds then walks off, leaving her heaving and crying her eyes out in the conference room. Eight years. Eight years she'd dedicated to this marriage. And this is all she had to show for it. Ever since they met when she was five, they'd both been inseparable. By eleven they declared their love and were married at nineteen. She'd spent her life by his side, supporting his dream. She gave up a chance to become a professional writer just so she be his assistant when he was struggling. When the company nearly closed it's doors, she was there working around the clock for free just so they could stay afloat. She worked multiple jobs because they couldn't pay the staffs and they quit. She still made sure to bring him breakfast, lunch and dinner. Plus run all the errands. She'd given up her life to set him on his feet. And now that he was, he was casting her aside for some porcelain skin twig of a woman! This couldn't be! "Tristan... what is going on?" she whispers softly, feeling her heart rate rising. She was gonna have a panic attack again. She slowly curled up in the chair she was sitting on and hugged her knees to her chest, rocking forward and back. She slowly lost her ability to breathe and quietly hyperventilating while her husband was busy staring fondly at the intimate photos of his lover. She bowed her head to spare herself the view and continued to rock and hum to songs her mother used to sing while she cleaned his parents home then. Mom. She'd passed three years ago due to complications of a hip surgery. She'd lived a hard life, worked everyday until she died. She was a single mom so with her gone, Vanessa had no one else except Tristan. But he seemed to be gone too. After a couple minutes, she got the shaking under control and raised her head to find that Tristan was watching her, concern apparent on his face. He kept his distance like he always did whenever she had a panic attack and just watched to make sure she was okay. For a minute she could see the Tristan she married. "What happened to us?" she asked weak. And guilt flashed in his eyes, he looked away. He opened his mouth to speak but instead shook his head and rose from his perch "Never try this again" he says over his shoulder before exiting the conference room, leaving her to rock the rest of her panic attack alone.
