Selene's POV
Once the hall had emptied and the massive doors closed behind the last departing god, a hush settled over the room. I felt the tension ease from my shoulders—the oppressive weight of the divine gaze now gone. The mood shifted, the gods no longer towering figures demanding answers, but companions seeking guidance. Hera was the first to break the silence, her voice gentle yet edged with worry. "Selene, what is it you need to discuss with us about our destined mates?" The others, too, dropped their intimidating presence, allowing vulnerability to flicker across their faces. In that moment, we stood not as subjects before an assembly, but as friends—finally able to share truths without fear, now that the crowd had dispersed.
Gathering my courage, I addressed the six gods before me. “One of you is about to discover your soulmate, and I believe it’s only fair that all of you—the revered six—should learn about your destined partners.” Eagerness sparked in their eyes, anticipation building in the quiet chamber.
I decided to begin with Zeus; after all, everyone knows he would feel slighted if he wasn’t first, and his legendary pouting was best avoided. Turning to him, I said, “Zeus, your mate has not yet come of age, but I did share her species with you earlier.” I offered a sly smile, watching his reaction. He leaned forward, whispering, “Vampire?”
I nodded. “Yes, a vampire. She’s currently fifteen, so you’ll need to wait a few more years.” Gratitude softened his usual intensity, and he smiled, content to wait for the right moment.
Next, I turned to Poseidon. “Your soulmate is human, living on Gaia. However, she too is not of age—she was born just a week ago. I’m afraid you’ll need to be patient until she turns eighteen.” Hope flickered in his eyes, even as his lips formed a gentle pout, accepting the long wait ahead.
Turning my attention to Hestia, I spoke gently, “Hestia, your soulmate is a young warlock—he’s only ten years old right now.” A tender smile spread across her face, her eyes shining with hope as she listened. “He will need your patience and guidance as he grows into his powers and destiny,” I continued, offering reassurance.
Then I looked to Demeter. “Demeter, your mate is human, just fourteen, and already such a diligent worker.” Surprise flashed in her eyes, a mix of curiosity and amusement. “he’s a farm boy. I have no doubt you’ll be drawn to his earthy spirit and relentless drive—he won’t know what hit him once you’re at his side.”
Meeting Hades’s calm, unwavering gaze, I spoke with gentle honesty. “Hades, your soulmate has yet to enter this world—the wait will be longer for you than for the others,” I assured him, my tone soft but hopeful. “But don’t lose heart. There’s someone close to you, one of your own, who stands on the brink of meeting their fated mate.” At this, a ripple of tension stirred in the room, and I could sense both Hades and Hera bracing for what was to come.
Curiosity and concern mingled in Hera’s expression. She pressed for answers, her voice edged with urgency. “Please, Selene, explain what you mean,” she insisted, unable to hide her growing worry.
With a steady breath, I addressed the gathering. “Some of those under my guidance seem to think they can outsmart fate when it comes to destined mates,” I explained, my gaze shifting to Hades. “Your second-in-command, Andreas, is about to meet his mate. She’s a werewolf who will serves as my priestess—her role is to lead others in her realm toward their own bonds. For Andreas, he will be a second-chance mate, offering her the possibility of renewed hope.”
Turning to Hera, my voice softened with empathy. “Hera, the one fated for you was once bonded to my priestess’s sister. But your mate was not her only ambition. Craving status and recognition, the sister sought the favor of the young alpha—going so far as to sleep with him and attempt to claim her child as the alpha’s own.”
A sharp gasp escaped Hera, her outrage echoing through the chamber. “She slept with my mate?” she cried, pain and disbelief etched across her face.
I nodded solemnly. “She deceived him, using the mate bond to experience what it meant to be with her destined partner before choosing to reject him completely.” The truth lingered between us, heavy but necessary, as the gods confronted the tangled choices and heartbreak woven into their fates.
With gentle solemnity, I met Hera’s gaze. “Hera, your mate is about to become a father. Are you prepared to welcome his child as your own and offer that little one your love?” The question lingered in the stillness, touching on the heart of fate’s tangled web.
Hera’s eyes softened, and a gentle resolve settled over her face. “Yes, I will love this child as if they were my own, because once they are under my care, they truly will be mine.” I couldn’t help but smile, sensing her acceptance. In her heart, she was already envisioning ways to welcome the pup into their divine family—perhaps even offering the ambrosia of the gods, granting the child a taste of immortality and a place in their world.
