Chapter 1 Chapter One
Annie's Dilemma Annie stared at the doctor, waiting for him to say something. She was not mentally prepared for the news the middle-aged man was about to tell her. Her voice trembled as she spoke. "Please, doctor, you honestly have to tell me the truth about my condition." Her heart raced, and her vocals kept failing her as words kept coming out of them. The doctor, a stern middle-aged man, sat behind his desk, examining the test results. Looking up at Annie, he signed worriedly. "Please, Annie, just-just calm down and listen to me," he said, removing his glasses and his hand on his chest. "Go on Doc," she urged the doctor to Share the news. "I'm deeply sorry, Annie. Your health is so serious, it's in critical condition. You are a stage three cancer patient." the doctor explained. "What?" Annie muttered with despair, and her heart sank at the words. It was at this moment she realized the reasons for the constant loss of weight. It had been visible all along, but she never knew why. The reality that she might not survive shook her to the core. "What can we do, doctor? Please, you have to help me," Annie pleaded, her voice cracking. The doctor's eyes met her gaze with a grave expression. " I will be honest, you need surgery. It's the only way to treat your condition, but the hospital insists on upfront payment. I'm sorry it's like this, I am only a staff that has to follow protocol. " Annie's eyes widened as she glanced at the bills on the table. "$10,000!" she gasped, struggling to breathe. Annie had left the doctor's office with a heavy heart, hot tears rolled down her cheeks. She made her way out of the hospital lost in thought. She was almost run over by a speeding car when her phone rang jolting her out of her thoughts into reality. She brushed her hair off her face which had been mixed with tears and brought out her phone. It was no other person than, Sarah-her best friend. "Hey, girlfriend. What took you so long? Our boss kept asking of you." Sarah questioned. "I I..." Annie stuttered on the phone and that was when Sarah knew something was wrong. "I'm sorry for raising my voice at you. You know what, just come back to work. When you come around we will sort it out. Okay, sweetheart?" Sarah comforted her. She doesn't need a diviner to tell her that Annie is crying at the moment. "Okay," Annie whispered and hung up. "Taxi." She stopped an oncoming vehicle and gave him the description of her destination. It didn't take her much time before she got to her workplace. It was just a forty-five-minute drive. By the time she got back to work, it was 7. p.m. already and their closing period is always scheduled for 5. p.m. Sarah was already waiting for her at the entrance of the bar. "Annie," she waved at her and quickly walked over to her upon seeing how our faces and cheeks were so red. "Sa...rah..." Annie called with a trembling voice and wept on her shoulders. Sarah dragged her to a seat not too far from them, wiping off her tears as they rolled out of her eyes uncontrollably while she explained what the doctor had said to her at the hospital. "How am I to get $10,000, Sarah? Even my daily fee at work is not up to that even if I save for a whole year. How am I to take care of my mother?" Annie questioned. Sarah bowed her head sorrowfully and heaved a sigh. "Annie, what if I tell you that I have a solution to your problem?" "You do? Tell me about it." Annie wiped off her face with her palms waiting to hear the good news Sarah was about to pop out. Sarah scrolled through her phone and showed Annie an advert displaying the need for more maids at the Astral pack for the coronation of the next Alpha, Alpha Grey. "The Astral pack?!" Annie's eyes widened in shock. Of all places does it have to be the Astral Pack?! "I can't go back there. You of all people knew what they did to my mother and me after the death of my father. They threw us out and banished us forever as rogues when I refused to give my virginity to the next Alpha after my dad. Imagine! That old man! I can't go back to the Astral Pack. What if someone recognizes me when I get there?" Annie ranted. Sarah rolled her eyes and held her shoulder. "Annie, this is the only chance you have. They are going to pay you handsomely. You can get the $10,000 you need in the twinkle of an eye. Yes, that's how huge they pay. The party is going to last for a week. Please, do this for me. I cannot bear to lose you. Moreover, it's been years since anyone last saw you." Sarah consoled her and Annie reasoned with all she had said. "T thanks. But " Annie wanted to say another word but Sarah restricted her words with one of her fingers placed on her lips. "If it's about your mother. She is safe with me." Sarah smiled and Annie hugged her. "Least I forgot, I texted my brother, David. He will be here to pick you up any minute from now." Sarah replied. "That fast?" Annie asked surprised. "Yes, the party starts today. And you need all the money you can get." Sarah replied. Suddenly, David pulled over in front of them. "Annie, Sarah, are you ready?" he asked. "Sure, I will see you when you are back. And yeah, once you are back, you should get ready for your surgery. I love you. David will pick you up as well." Sarah assured her and blew her a kiss before watching Annie enter into the car as they drove off. The journey to the Astral Pack took the whole evening. But they eventually got there around midnight. "Thanks, David." Annie smiled and got out of the car while she made her way to the entrance. "Hello Miss, did you come to work?" A tall man dressed in a suit asked. "Yes," Annie answered, trying to avoid eye contact. "Follow me." The man asked. Annie followed from behind and suddenly a headache struck her. "What was that?" Anna her wolf purred in her head. "I have no idea," Annie whispered as she continued to follow the man in front of her. Suddenly, everywhere got still and a rushing mighty wind blew from nowhere hitting Annie hard. "Mate!" Anna, her mate, spoke in her head. "Our mate...he is here in the Astral Pack," Anna added. "Here she is."The man in the suit introduced her to the chief's maids. "Okay. Follow me." The chief's maids replied and soon Annie was given a cloth to change into. The attire fit her in the right places and she was looking so beautiful that even other maids admired her. The chief maid's cough made all of them adjust and become more serious. "If you want to get your pay, do your jobs well. Is that understood?" The chief maid questioned. "Yes, ma'am." They chorused and everyone set to work. Annie started by serving everyone drinks at the party as she continued to hide her face. Until she noticed that no one recognized her just like Sarah had said. "Hey, you. What's your name?"The chief maid called her while she was busy serving drinks to the rich and the powerful. "Annie." She responded and quickly dropped the tray she was holding. "Pack those clothes and wash them." she pointed to the table clothes which were already filled with food remnants. Annie bowed and did as she was instructed. But while she was leaving she could hear the maids whispering about the Alpha who is to be coronated. "Have you seen him?" One of her colleagues asked her mates as they all were laughing and working at the same time. "No, tell us about him."One of her colleagues responded. "I've seen his pictures. He is so f*cking handsome and he looks like a fr*aking damn god!" she answered. Annie was the least concerned as she packed all the clothes as instructed by the chief's maid and made her way toward the laundry room. Her health and that of her mother was the most important thing right now. Just as she neared the laundry room she could hear some awkward sounds that looked like moanings and suddenly another headache struck her, propelling Anna her wolf to speak. "Our mate, he is not far from us!" Annie went further and noticed that one of the royal rooms next to the laundry room was opened with a woman moaning harder. "Grey! Ah! F*ck me more, Alpha!" were the naughty words that kept coming from the room. Surprisingly, the mate bond pulled Annie towards Alpha Grey, and the word "Mate!" left her lips. "You are my mate?!" Annie asked as she could not believe that her mate could be here in the Astral pack where her troubles had begun and not just that, he was cheating on her with another woman. "What is a maid doing here without my permit?" He demanded, his tone laced with annoyance. "Maybe she wants to join the show?" The Lady beside him joined in with a mocking giggle, deepening Annie's heartbreak. Beads of sweat formed on Annie's forehead, and her palms grew clammy. "Is this a joke?" Grey huffed, "Don't tell me you're here because of the mate bond, I will never accept a low maid like you." He was extremely irritated, was this some sort of joke the moon goddess was pulling? She fathered him to a low omega, a low pathetic maid. Staring at the runt in front of him, he could smell her loneliness and weakness from her. She's a nobody and will never match his league. "W-we are fated, you won't reject the bond, would you?" Annie forced the words out, trembling. "Do you think I would want to be with a pathetic omega like you? You are undeserving of my pack! You f*cking have no rank, no background, you're just a useless maid!" Grey spat. "I, Alpha Grey, reject you, worthless runt -what's your name?" Grey paused, his voice commanding as he raised a brow. Annie was undecided to speak, but his Alpha commands made her submit. "A-Annie." "I alpha Grey, reject you, Annie, as my possible mate and Luna of my pack!" Grey rejected her.
