“I am Sierra, daughter of Clark and Eva, descendant of the great Van Helsing, and the Alpha of the Greyhounds. I am the beginning, and the end, the light of the sun and the coldness of the moon. I am the fear that creeps through your bones at night. And I am the wolf whose call shall awaken the clans of the earth.”

Sierra is the first and only child of Alpha Clark, the biggest and baddest wolf in North America, and the alpha of the strongest pack there ever was, dwarfing all the other packs in the country. Naturally, she was born to lead the pack one day, and shoulder the responsibilities which an Alpha is meant to shoulder.

There's just one problem though.

Sierra doesn't have a wolf. At the age of fifteen, she still hasn't turned yet.

And in a pack which is on the brink of war, that is the worst thing that could possibly happen to her. The only way she can truly become an alpha, is if she masters the wolf which she knows is within her.

It must be there.

Otherwise...

The blood of the pack would be on her hands

Prologue
The hollow branches of the forest creaked in the darkness of the night as a tall and lean figured man hurried through the undergrowth. He glanced back occasionally, sniffing the air to make sure he wasn't followed. The coast was clear, or so he hoped.  The moon was high up in the sky by that hour, and his wolf was aware of that as well. He could feel him itching to be free, to run wild through the thickets while the night was still young. Edward couldn't allow that however. Tonight was not a night for running wild. Tonight was meant to be cautious.  The sound of a twig snapping just ahead of him made him stop. His ears pricked up as he sniffed the air once again. Sure enough, he caught the scent of another wolf just a few metres away from him. The scent was feminine, and he knew it wasn't one of his own.  Where the man had once been standing, a huge grey wolf now stood, baring his canines as he sniffed at the air and growled.  Up ahead, the woman cautiously walked towards him. Edward growled louder, to alert her that he wasn't in the mood to play games tonight. Still, she emerged from the thickets a few seconds later, chewing her gum loudly.  The woman wore a tight leather jacket and tight leather pants as well. Her hair was cut short, and she had a tattoo on her left arm. She stared calmly at Edward, blowing a bubble and popping it.  "Quiet down, mutt," she said as he growled once again. "Any louder, and you'll wake the whole forest."  A split second later, Edward turned back into his human form.  "How did you get past the borders?" he asked.  "The same way you do whenever you wish not to be seen," she replied as she blew a bubble and popped it once again.  "Where is he?" he asked.  "Alpha Oberon could not make it, I'm afraid," she said. "He has some urgent business which he needs to attend to."  "Of what nature is this business?" Edward asked as he frowned. "He knows I will be expecting him here."  "His business is his business," she shrugged. "If you have any complaints, perhaps you should pick them up with him at a later date. I am just here to deliver his message."  "What is the message?" he asked as he scowled at her. He didn't like this woman, nor the way she spoke to him in a condescending manner. But he must keep his temper in check. It would be unwise to attack her now.  It was only a matter of time.  "Alpha Oberon wants the girl," she said. "He is tired of waiting, and he wants you to bring her to him by the next full moon. Otherwise, his army marches on these Western lands."  "Oberon and I agreed that he wouldn't do anything until we are certain that the girl is indeed one of us," he said. "She hasn't even turned yet."  "His patience wears thin," she shrugged. "You will have the girl ready by the next full moon, or there will be war. And you will have no one to blame when that happens but yourself."  "Fool," he spat, "there will be war regardless of whether I bring the girl or not. Do you think Alpha Clark will sit back quietly if he finds out that his daughter has been taken by his mortal enemy?"  "That is what Oberon wants," she laughed. "And do not dare to call me a fool again. Otherwise..."  Edward simply glared at her.  "You have exactly one month," she said. "Bring the girl to him, and you will save yourself. Otherwise, when he attacks these Western lands, your severed head will be his banner. And your blood will glisten off his teeth as he lays waste to everything you and your precious Alpha hold near and dear. Alpha Oberon's temper is very thin, and you will do well not to piss him off anymore than you already have."  "Sierra is well guarded," he said. "Getting her will not be as easy as simply grabbing her hand and bringing her along. Clark guards his seed fiercely."  "That is your problem, not mine," she shrugged as she turned around and walked back the way she came. "Remember, you have only a month."  Edward watched as she left, her figure disappearing between the thickets in a matter of seconds. A second later the pounding of several enormous paws could be heard as she headed for the border once again.  The anger boiling within Edward made him want to claw someone's eye out. A month; that was all Oberon had given him. It wasn't nearly enough. How could he possibly bring her to him in just four weeks. He needed time. Time which he did not have.  Perhaps...  The idea struck him like a bolt of lightning. War was imminent. And no matter whose side he was on, he would end up dead regardless. The Alphas were two of the fiercest known to have ever existed. He couldn't possibly hope to escape the wrath of one without incurring that of the other.  Unless he could somehow get them to finish off each other. Clark was rash and unyielding, while Oberon was drunk with power. Neither of them would yield to the other. So if they both went to war, they would surely consume each other whole. And when the dust settled, and there was no one left standing on the battlefield, he would stand above their corpses and reign supreme, the Alpha of the world. No one would dare to stand in his way.  And as for Sierra, the girl would be dead before she even realised what was going on. From all indications, the girl was a weakling; the exact opposite of her father. How could anyone ever let her rule over the most powerful pack to have ever existed? It was preposterous. He would have to kill her himself. It should be easy enough, once her father destroyed himself in war.  The only other person whom he should be afraid of was her mother. Eva would not sit back and let him execute his plan. But it didn't matter. He would take care of her as well.  As the moonlight broke through the thick leaves overhead and shone down on the forest, the grey wolf stood once again where Edward was a moment ago, and howled into the night, a long and piercing call which rent the air like the call of a siren. And in the distance, seven other wolves answered the call.  He howled a second time, and then a third. Only after the others answered did he charge ahead. They would understand the call. A single howl meant nothing; two meant the coast was clear.  Three meant an intruder had been sighted.  *
