In the aftermath of Eva’s impromptu visit, they would wonder why Leonard never came out of his room to see what was happening. Shiela was the first one who noticed this strange behaviour, and she would put the question to him immediately after he came out.
“You mean to tell me that you were oblivious to her arrival?” she asked, a disbelieving look in her eyes.
“That’s exactly what I am saying,” he nodded while avoiding her gaze. “It was probably when I was asleep.”
“You fell asleep?”
“Yes, I did. We humans do that sometimes, you know. When we get tired, we need to lie down and have a bit of a rest.”
Shiela’s eyes darkened at his words. She knew exactly why he had used that word, knowing it was the best option for him to get under her skin. He would have thought about it carefully
