Chapter 2: Meeting Ben

Summer

It was my final year in high school, and I was looking forward to going to nursing school; my father was pack Alpha, and our pack was quite small, but everyone loved and cared for each other. One day, we were attacked by rogues, and my father was badly injured; Alpha Ben was the only one with the means to protect us, so my mother made the deal for our joining, and I was going to be his Luna. I didn't like the idea, and I met him once; he was good-looking but grumpy, and I could see he didn't like me one bit. He probably hated the idea as the elders blessed our union. Rumor had it at the time that he had a girlfriend and hated being mated to me, but nothing was ever confirmed. I looked at my boyfriend, who was on his phone as we sat by the lake, remembering all the good times we had shared over the years. The summer was approaching, and so was his graduation from high school; Savi went to town to look for a dress, but I had one delivered. We were having a nice going-away party after the ceremony, and Chance was going to be my date for the night; he looked at me and smiled before taking me down a lonely path to an old abandoned cabin. My dad was badly injured, and his Beta said, "We lost so many men," and looked at my mom, saying. "We need to talk to Alpha Ben," and my body shivered hearing that name.

Present Time

My dad was in the hospital, still healing up; he was paralyzed from the waist down with silver and wolfsbane, and he was taking a while to heal up when my mother summoned me to his office. My mother informed me I would be mating with Alpha Ben; it was one of his requirements to help and protect us. She looked at me with happy tears and said, "It would protect our little pack, just get to know him," and I agreed to mate with him when I turned nineteen. I was nervous because he was older when my mother handed me a number and told me, "Call him when you get the chance; he is waiting for your call." It turns out he was my mate, and he had known all along but had hidden it from me. I asked him, "Why did you not tell me that you are my mate?" He smiled and said, "You were sixteen, how do I explain to you, an old man like me, mated to a literal teenager, your mother knew, that's why the deal was made, but honestly, I would have mated you anyway." I was glad that Summer was getting more comfortable around the pack and me; I had made dinner this time, and it was a special night for us. I watched her enjoy the food, and we talked a bit more about what she plans for the future; she was blushing, and I couldn't help but enjoy her company. I waited until after dessert, and I got on one knee in front of her with a ring I had designed especially for her. She was shocked when I said, "I know that you think I might be too old for you, and it might be true, but I am completely in love with you, I want you to be my mate, my wife, Luna of my pack, and mother to my children, so do me the honor and marry me." She accepted my proposal, and I kissed her; our kiss got heated, and I picked her up, taking her to my bedroom.
