CHAPTER 16 AMELIA  I sank down on my chair as soon as Aunt Claire left. My heart is breaking into million pieces as my mind wanders back to the good times, I spent with Aunt Claire and knowing that it may never happen again. She made her choice. She chose him over her own niece. Why do they always choose someone or something over me? Vincent took my hand as he crouched in front of me, and I immediately lost it. Tears poured out of my eyes and he took me in his arms as I bawled my eyes out.   Vincent placed a coffee mug on the table in front of me. I didn’t realize that I was sitting on my living room floor, “Thank you.” I whispered to Vincent as he sat down next to me. “You’re welcome.” He replied as he watches me take a sip of the coffee that he made me. “What happened to your parents?” I placed the mug back on the table and think for a few seconds if I want to tell Vincent what happened or what will his reaction be. “You can tell me, but only if you want to.” Vincent said. I glanced at Vincent as he waits for me to decide. He already knows that my parents are in jail, but I’m not sure if I want to tell him the reason. I guess I’m afraid that he’ll judge me or worse… stop seeing me. “Drugs.” I answered, blinking a few times as I watch for any type of judgement or withdrawal from Vincent’s face. I told him because I just think that if this will be the reason, he stops seeing me then I’m just simply nothing to him. I continued to tell him the reason my parents got arrested. From the time my dad got fired from his job, to getting addicted to alcohol then drugs which lead to my mom getting depressed so she fell down to the same vice as my dad. Then one day, they got caught selling drugs and got arrested. Vincent listened intently with no sign of judgement on his face then he caressed my cheeks with his hand. Only then I realized that I’m crying and he’s wiping my tears. He wrapped his arms around me and as I cried against his chest; he kisses the top of the head and it makes me feel so loved and accepted. This, right here, feels home.   Vincent’s hand glides up and down my arm as I woke up. We’re lying on my couch, wrapped around each other. I must’ve fallen asleep after crying so much. “Hi.” I whispered, looking up from his chest to see him smiling at me. “Hi.” He replied. Then he bends a little to kiss my forehead. “I’m sorry I fell asleep.” I said, smiling at him.  “That’s fine. You needed it.” He’s right. After crying my eyes out, I felt weak and tired. “Let’s go out.” He said while his hand caressed my cheek. My eyebrows furrowed, “Where are we going?”  “Anywhere you like.” He said, smirking, showing off his dimples.  “Oh... Are you sure about that?” I asked, teasing him.  “Hurry. before I change my mind.” He stated and I just know that he’s serious.  “Okay okay. I know where to go.” I said, grinning at him.    “This is where you want to go?” He said, displeased.  “What? You said anywhere I like, right?” I said, reminding him.  “Yes, but I did not expect a lame stroll in the park.” He noted.  “This is not lame, okay? I enjoy a pleasant walk.” I said, smiling at him, and he rolled his eyes at me.  “If you really want to walk around a park, I could’ve flown us to New York.” He said as we walk and this time, I rolled my eyes at him.  “I’m sure you can.” I replied then added, “but that’s not what I want.” With a grin on my face.  I looked around the park and watch other people do their own things, going through their own lives. Meanwhile, I am here with this gorgeous man walking beside me. The sky is clear, and the weather is not that cold but what makes everything perfect, is his hand slowly reaching for my hand as we walk.  As he grabs hold of my hand, it sends electricity throughout my body and I can’t help but smile. I glanced at Vincent and he’s smirking but looking straight ahead.  I can hear a soft music playing in the distance. I turn to Vincent, “Do you hear that? Is that a piano?”  “Yes.” He answered plainly with no sign of interest to that music that I hear.  I noticed a group of people huddled together so I walked towards them, pulling Vincent behind me. I glanced back at him and he scowls at the group of people watching whatever they are watching. Rolling my eyes at him, I continued to push forward to get a look at where that music is coming from.  An old man wearing a suit and tie is behind a white grand piano, and he’s playing a tune that just makes you feel happy inside. As he plays, he smiles at everyone who’s watching that he barely looks down to the keys, clarifying that he’s been playing for a long time, that he’s memorized all the keys. “He’s amazing.” I whispered, admiring his talent.  Then suddenly, my view is blocked by Vincent’s back as he moves forward from everyone. He walked gracefully as he approached the old man.  The old man noticed him and he looked at Vincent, confused for a few seconds, then he paused when Vincent stood in front of him.  I looked around, and everyone is watching Vincent and the old man as they talk. Some, mostly women, had their eyes glued to Vincent as they swoon and giggle at the sight of him. I don’t blame them; he is extremely gorgeous and I’m glad that he’s mine. Oh, wait... is he mine?  Music plays again, and it brought me back from my thoughts. This time, Vincent and the old man are sitting beside each other as they played. Looking at them makes my heart melt.  Vincent looks gorgeous as always, wearing his smirk that I like and the old man, although he has gray hair and he has a little of wrinkles, you can still see how handsome he is. He might be as handsome as Vincent when he was young.  When the song that they are playing ended, everyone was applauding the both of them. The two men stood together and shook hands. I walked towards them as soon as everyone left and get on with their lives.  “That was wonderful.” I peeked from Vincent’s shoulders. They both looked at me and I smiled at them both.  “Thank you, young lady.” The old man said, smiling, then his gaze followed Vincent’s hand as it shakes its way around my waist. He smiles at Vincent as if he realized something.  “She’s beautiful, son.” He said to Vincent and my cheeks heats right away. I glanced at Vincent and he smiled politely at the old man, then he looked at me.  “She is.” He replied. The way he said it, and his expression, makes my heart skip a beat. “You two have fun today.” The old man interjected, making us break eye contact to look at him. He smiles warmly at us as we turn to leave. “Let’s go eat.” He whispered to my ear as he put his arms on my shoulder, pulling me closer to his body. I giggled as we walk past by a group of women who look at me with jealousy in their eyes and Vincent doesn’t give them any attention. I glanced at Vincent and I still can’t believe that I am with the hottest guy I’ve ever seen and all his attention is focused on me. Only me.
