CHAPTER 1
Isabelle's Pov
I was sitting on a stool in front of a glossy art painting I had just finished. It consisted of the blue morning sky and land, ornamented with trees and lakes. It was a wonderful sight.
I heard soft footsteps behind me. "Beautiful, just beautiful."
I smiled, knowing who it was.
I stood from the stool and looked around to a familiar gaze of blue colors and a nice, genuine smile. He was wrapped in a dark suit, and his hair was a wonderful mixture of honeycomb.
"Dear," I said, stepping closer to him to throw my arms around his neck. I was still smiling when I felt him lift me up off the ground and whirl me around in seconds. My grasp on him suddenly tightened, and we both ended up laughing in ecstasy over what had happened.
Not long later, he dumped me on the ground and handed me a piece of red blossom he had stashed in his pocket. "Here, ."
I stared into my lover's eyes and grinned. Then I accepted the rose and said, "Thank you. Why don't we head to the dining table, and I'll cook you bread to eat and tea to drink?"
I was going to turn away when Eddie grabbed my arms to keep me in place. "No need, my dear. This time, I will tell you something essential."
I nodded at Eddie, willing him to continue.
"You know how our wedding ceremony is next month?"
"Yes," I answered cautiously. "What about it?"
"I've resolved to cease selling narcotics for my boss and doing all sorts of wickedness. You were right; it's not something I want my future kids to know about. I want to be a proud future dad, and to do that, I need to repent of every wrongdoing."
A tear trickled down my cheek, and Eddie moved me closer to him. "Oh, what's wrong?"
"Nothing," I said, wiping my face. "I'm just really proud of you."
Eddie grinned, took me closer, and pecked my cheeks. "You're such a crybaby," he cooed as he cleaned my cheeks.
"Dear, please be cheerful for me. I'll tell you the wonderful news from my employer tonight over dinner, okay?"
I nodded, clutching onto Eddie's hands and embracing him.
It was like the touch of God. After giving up all hope in Eddie's redemption, he suddenly tells me he's going to change for good. All for the sake of our future.
I nodded for Eddie's encouragement. "Go ahead; realize your heart's desires. By the time you come back, dinner will be ready. Will you be staying the night?"
"No, love, I'm sure we can be patient for another month."
Eddie and I withdrew from each other, and he began to walk away.
My eyes blurred with tears as I watched him walk out the door.
May God bless you.
Eddie's Pov
"Boss, I'm afraid I'm no longer able to carry out your aims well. I've found a wife, and it would be unacceptable for me to continue performing this business." I spoke openly in front of my Mafia Lord and commander, Lucien.
We were currently at a dark gray mansion amid the estates of Global Heritage. And in the mansion, my boss was sitting on a single sofa with a harsh look on his face, but his eyes were cold and indifferent. I did not know what to expect, but I was hopeful, for Isabelle's sake.
"Are you crazy?" I was attacked on the whim by none other than my psychotic brother and partner in missions, Nicholas.
"Have you forgotten your pledge?" Nicholas's hold around my neck tightened, and I knew he was serious from the roar in his green, gleaming eyes. Another reason I'd give my life for him. He was passionate and aggressive, but deep down, he was kind.
"Of course not," I said lightly, shaking off his hands from my neck before going towards Lucien, whose eyes conveyed contempt and disgust. I waved it off. Lucien naturally had a frigid temperament because of his blue eyes.
"Boss," I said lightly. "Please understand that I have a girlfriend I will marry next month. I don't want her to worry; that's why, from now on, I will no longer be a part of Dark Zen. I hope you understand."
A second passed, then he said "Fine, go. Be happy."
That was all I needed to hear. I smiled. "I knew you'd understand, boss."
"No!" Nicholas roared. "You can't leave! What about the oaths to the boss and to the organization?"
I sighed. As expected of Nicholas, he wouldn't let things be.
"Don't be too mad, Nicholas. I know you'll miss me, but at least you're invited to my wedding."I turned to the boss and gave him a wink. "You too, boss. I'll send you an invite."
Nicholas grabbed me by the neck and pushed me closer to his body with homicidal eyes. "You i***t, do you want to die?"
I swallowed and looked down before breaking free from Nicholas and smiling. "Don't worry, I'll think of you all from time to time. But for real, I quit, Boss, Nicholas." Then I turned and started heading to the escape door.
"Boss, are you just going to let him go?" I heard Nicholas's distant voice as I reached the door and opened it before shutting it.
"Let him go." I heard Lucien's icy voice, and I sighed as I waited a little. It wouldn't be too long before Nicholas came rushing after me.
"Then let me have a word with him quickly." I heard Nicholas's light footfall echoing. I smiled. Nicholas had always been so predictable.
"Stop, Nicholas," Lucien said.
"I have a mission for you." I heard a clunk on the tiled floor. "Kill Eddie."
My blood ran cold.
"Boss, but Eddie is my mission partner!"
I slapped my right hand over my face. "So my death warrant has been signed, huh?"
There was no need to stay back and listen. What for?
As I walked along the corridor, my elbow kept the brightness from the windows from blinding my eyes and, at the same time, from letting my tears leak onto the pristine floor.
My name was Eddie Curphy, and I was a boy who grew up impoverished and was lucky to attend high school.
As luck would have it, I was caught stealing and thrown in prison. There, I met Nicholas Archer, my companion for life and my best friend.
Somehow, we met a man named Lucien Bills in prison, and he got us out on the premise that we would subordinate our lives to Lucien Bills. As the two unlucky bastards we were, we agreed.
Nothing mattered, as long as we had one another. But suddenly, one more person mattered in my life.
The late afternoon sunlight struck a piece of my eye despite the existence of my elbow over my face. I scoffed and angrily wiped my face.
I heard footsteps, and that was my indication to keep moving.
