EIGHT MONTHS LATER
The loud cry of the baby echoed through the air. Loud ear-piercing scream.
“ She is here. It's a girl. Take her". Lisa said smiling, giving the blood-covered baby to her mother before finding a wrapper.
Hailey stared down at her daughter, eyes wide with awe.
“ My baby is finally here. My princess. My beautiful girl." Tears flowed down Hailey's face as she whispered.
“ What are you going to name her?" Lisa asked Hailey.
“I’ll name her Hope,” she whispered, her voice shaking. “Because she is my hope. My new beginning.”
★★★★★★
TWO WEEKS LATER
Hailey was sitting quietly in her cell room when she started hearing screams.
Then she started seeing smoke, dark thick ones filling the room, and within minutes she saw fire coming into the room spreading from the next room to the next and to her.
The fire was spreading, and the guards couldn't do anything about it. There were not enough fire extinguishers, the old prison was burning fast, the building couldn't resist.
Cell doors were opened in a hurry by emergency override, standard fire protocol.
But in the chaos, inmates began to flee. Pushing. Screaming. Running. The prison was collapsing into pure madness.
“Fire! Everyone get out!” someone shouted and opened Hailey's cell door.
Hailey knew she had to leave the room, she couldn't stay there. S
She didn't even know where Lisa was.
Lisa had been called by the prison guards that she had a visitor.
She was not yet back and Hailey had to escape from the fire without her. Hailey hoped she was fine and she would escape the fire.
She wrapped Hope tighter, pressing her against her chest, and staggered to the hallway.
The main exits were blocked.
But Hailey didn’t stop. She continued running.
She remembered a narrow storage corridor behind the laundry room.
She had passed it before while working prison chores. It led to a back gate rarely used.
Maybe, just maybe, she hoped it would be open or broken in the chaos.
She ran, barefoot, her feet burning on the hot floor. The baby wailed again, then went quiet, exhausted from the heat.
Something hit Hailey and burned her back, something hot with fire.
“ Ahhhh!! " Hailey yelled as the heat burned her back.
Hailey sobbed but didn’t stop. She reached the corridor, choked with smoke, and squeezed through the metal grate that had been kicked open by other escaping prisoners.
The night air hit her face like a slap. And she heaved a sigh.
She ran blindly toward the woods near the outer wall and eventually entered the tired road.
She fell on the ground, her legs were entirely weak. The fire heat was melting her body seriously.
When she was about to give up from the pain in her body.
A black SUV screeched to a halt in front of her.
The headlights flooded her eyes, forcing her to look away.
Her body trembled, too weak to move. Hope made a soft cry in her arms.
A door opened.
“Hey! Are you okay?! What the hell happened?"
Hailey blinked, unable to respond. The man knelt beside her, his face clear under the light.
He was an old man. His eyes moved from her to the baby.
“Oh God… You’re burnt,” he whispered. “ Is that a baby? My God! What happened?" he asked Hailey worriedly.
She tried to speak, but the words caught in her throat. Her vision blurred.
She tried to hold on a little longer, to see the baby one more time. But her body finally gave in.
Everything went black. She fainted.
★★★★★
Hailey opened her eyes and above her was a white and clean concrete ceiling with a beautiful chandelier not like the stained concrete in the prison ceiling.
The air smelled like fresh roses and a nice scent filled the room.
She blinked again, confused. A soft silk blanket covered her.
This wasn’t a prison. It wasn't a prison. Where was she? Then everything came rushing to her as she remembered everything.
She immediately sat up fast, when she noticed Hope was not with her. Panic came to her quickly.
“ My baby! Where is my baby!" She yelled, hurriedly checking around her, looking for Hope.
“ It's okay Ma'am, calm down, everything is okay," A soft voice said beside her, making her turn to the direction.
The young maid stepped closer, gently placing something warm and small in Hailey’s arms.
“Here she is. Your daughter is fine. Look at her, she is sleeping “. The maid said .
Hailey looked at her baby. Her baby Hope was wrapped tightly in a clean pink cloth, sleeping peacefully.
Hailey held her tightly to her chest as she embraced her , tears streamed down her cheeks.
The door opened quietly. And a tall elderly man stepped in. His grey and black hair was neatly combed backwards. His face was calm .
“ You are safe now. How are you feeling? “. The man said softly.
Hailey looked up at him and asked," Where am I? “ She asked.
" You are in my house just outside the city. You and your baby need immediate help. The doctor just left after checking for both of you. You’re going to be okay”. The man said.
She didn’t know what to say. She held Hope tighter and swallowed hard. Thinking about what to do now.
The man slowly sat in a chair near her bed, observing her gently before asking her questions.
“ What happened to your child? Why were you on the road like that? And with a newborn baby? Who put you there? Were you running from someone? What really happened?" The man asked concerned.
She broke down. Tears streamed down uncontrollably.
She could barely hold it in . She felt pain. Betrayal and humiliation.
“ I didn't do anything wrong. They framed me. They ruined me. They took everything from me, and they left me to die with my daughter". She said in a low voice.
She clutched Hope closer, burying her face in the baby's head as she wept harder.
The man looked at her with pity and waited patiently. Letting her cry and offering her tissues to clean her tears.
Then, with a shaky voice, Hailey told him everything.
Damian's sickness. The DNA test. Carson's lie. The arrest. When she gave birth in prison. And the fire outbreak.
When she finished, her eyes burned with more than tears. They burned with anger.
“I want revenge. I want to know who did this. I want to know how it's possible that the child I carried for nine months, how he wasn’t my husband’s. I'm sure I have never been with any other man. Someone planned this. Someone set me up. And I’m going to destroy them all”.
“I can help you with that," the man said confidently, and Hailey's eyes snapped at him.
"You will?"
“I know what it feels like to be framed. I know that pain and I lost my child because of it,” the man uttered, his gaze holding so much pain. “I will train you and teach you how to be strong."
“Teach me and train me? “ Hailey asked, confused.
“Yes. You can't take revenge with a weak heart. And what I see here is a carefully arranged plan to destroy you. And if you want to fight it back, you have to be strong and powerful “.
Hailey knows he was right. She needed to be strong and fearless.
“If you truly want to fight them, you will need to be in the same position and have the same power and money they have. I will give it to you. All the power. Money. Fame that you need. I will help you. We’ll change your name, your appearance. And in return, you will be my successor. The world will know you as my child “.
Hailey stared at him, completely stunned. “ What? Successor?”
He smiled faintly, pain flickering in his eyes. “ I'm helping you because I once faced this kind of problem with people like this, but I overcame it. I don't want you to suffer because of this and because you have a baby with you”.
She had no one, and it wouldn't hurt to learn as much as she could from this man.
“ I have no one to succeed me, but I found you and I want to teach you, and you will get your revenge, but in return you will carry my name and continue my legacy when I'm gone from this world."
She glanced at her daughter and her determination to give hope the best engulfed her.
“I ACCEPT YOUR OFFER." Hailey said with determination in her eyes.
I’ll make them pay, Hope. I swear I will get revenge. We will rise again. Stronger. Deadlier and unstoppable.
