Intermission: My Corona Dolph ran through the lower landing and headed for the front door. Nanna called out from the front room with her now-raspy voice. “What the f**k is that racket, out there?” “Dunno, Nanna,” Dolph yelped. “We’re checking it out.” Nanna returned to the television set and held out her hand. A tanned man dressed in a bright, white suit—and matching teeth—held a microphone on a giant stage and spoke directly to the camera. “And now, brothers and sisters, join me, Renny Baptiste, in helping our fallen families. Let me hear you say ‘Amen!’” The studio audience chanted of the notes of a playing organ. “Amen.” Nanna smiled and got into the spirit. Amen, Renny.” A ticker tape rolled across the bottom of the screen — “Donate now, and let Jesus heal you. Call us now.”
