Ezekiel said those words to me, his gaze piercing into my soul with those grey eyes that seemed to hold the weight of the world. His declaration made my heart skip a beat, and for a moment, I dared to believe in the possibility of love. But his words also carried a heavy burden - the pain of a past that still haunted him, the fear of hurting his son, Ryan, once again.

As I listened to him speak, I felt a mixture of emotions swirl within me. Part of me wanted to reassure him, to promise that I would never cause harm to Ryan, that our love would only bring healing and happiness. But another part of me hesitated, unsure if I could truly break through the walls he had built around his heart.

Ezekiel Qin Knight was unlike anyone I had ever met - wealthy, powerful, and undeniably attractive. But beneath the surface, he carried scars that ran deep, wounds inflicted by love lost and trust betrayed. Was he confessing his feelings for me, or was he simply rejecting the possibility of love altogether?

As I stood there, grappling with my own conflicting emotions, I couldn't help but feel a pang of regret. What had I been thinking, allowing myself to fall for a man who seemed so unattainable? But even as doubt crept into my mind, I couldn't deny the undeniable pull I felt towards him.

In that moment, I realized that love wasn't always easy, that it required patience, understanding, and above all, trust. And though Ezekiel's words may have cast doubt upon the possibility of our future together, I couldn't shake the feeling that perhaps, just perhaps, our broken hearts could mend each other in ways we never imagined.

CHAPTER 01 Meeting Mr Knight.
I rose up looking like a mess. My hair was tangled, a testament to my restless night. Despite my desire to stay in bed all day, my sister had gone above and beyond to secure me a job at Knightdale company, a prestigious firm. I couldn't wait to meet Ezekiel Qin Knight, the infamous figure rumored to be arrogant, mean, and disdainful of my gender. But let's be clear, he wasn't gay, just highly selective. This Adonis figure, unbeknownst to me, was set to be my boss. With a string of failed jobs behind me, I had one mission: not to mess this up. I'd already lost four jobs at big companies in a short period of time, and Knightdale was my last chance. After taking an eternity to get ready, dressed to impress like a runway model, I woke up my roommate and best friend, Shantel, for her opinion on my outfit. To say she wasn't pleased would be an understatement. "Oh hell no!" she exclaimed, barely giving my dress a second glance. "Club look, correct. Office look, wrong. Orianna, do you even know how to define formal wear, or are you just trying to seduce Mr. Knight?" I rolled my eyes at her comment, grabbed my bags, and rushed to my car, speeding towards Knightdale company. I was already running late, fifteen minutes behind schedule. As I prayed for Mr. Cold to be delayed, I couldn't shake the nickname I'd given him: Zeke, or Lucifer in training, because of his notorious reputation for arrogance and bullying. Though I'd never seen him, his hotness mixed with arrogance was well-known gossip. I stepped into the office, hoping the cold motherfucker wasn't around. The receptionist greeted me, and I introduced myself as Orianna M Potter, the new assistant for Mr. Knight. "You're lucky Mr. Knight is late," the receptionist remarked. "If he was here, you'd be packing your things." "Please don't tell him," I pleaded. "Your secret is safe with me," she assured me. "Thanks. I owe you one," I said gratefully as she handed me my cards and keys. I dashed to the elevator after the conversation with the receptionist. As I stepped inside, Ezekiel asked me to hold the elevator. I obliged, and he entered, remaining silent as he focused on his phone. "Arrogant bastard," I muttered under my breath, but then I reconsidered. "Oh wait, maybe he's shy." The elevator shook, and the power went out. Panic surged through me. "No! No! No! I can't be late. I'm sure the cold Zeke is not going to spare me." "Ezekiel, is it?" he corrected me. "My name is Kiel, by the way." "Oh sorry, I forgot," I stammered. "I thought I was alone. I'm Orianna May Potter, the new assistant of Lucifer in training." He chuckled. "Unlucky you. You're not. But continue, I want to learn about this Zeke AKA Lucifer in training." I shared what I'd heard about him, his reputation as evil, unable to smile, yet immensely wealthy. I mentioned his son, a sociopath who only allows his father to touch him. "So why did you give him a nickname?" he asked, still laughing. "You want a nickname too?" I retorted. "No," he replied simply. After a few hours, the power came back on. "Thank you, great one," I said sarcastically as the elevator doors opened. As I entered Mr. Knight's office, Matt apologized for the inconvenience and left. "Mr. Knight as in Knight.. Knight," I muttered in disbelief. "Yeah, Knight.. Knight as in Zeke Knight," he confirmed, his gaze fixed on me. "May Potter." "Noooooo... I'm sorry," I cried out, feeling tears welling up in my eyes. "Give me one reason why I shouldn't fire you. It's not like I don't like your scent," Ezekiel demanded, his tone sharp. "I'm really sorry," I replied, my voice trembling with fear. *If there was a table I could crawl inside, I would definitely crawl inside it. Shantel should have warned me with a picture or something,* I thought quietly to myself. "Lucifer in training, seriously?" he scoffed. "S... sorry," I stammered, struggling to find the right words amidst my tears. "That's all you can say, sorry?" he pressed, his annoyance evident. "Please give me a chance, don't fire me," I pleaded desperately, hoping for some leniency. He looked at me, clearly annoyed and pissed off. "Whatever... Just set these things in order, deliver them to my house when you're done. I want you to finish it today. If you ain't done by 11:59 PM, then you're fired." "But sir... I don't know your house, and this will be impossible to set these things in order... It's not like I'm a robot," I protested, feeling overwhelmed. "Best of luck making it possible, Ms. Potter. Enjoy your unemployed miserable life. Finish that data by the end of today," he dismissed me coldly. "Please give me some more time. How can I set 327 files in order within just a few hours? The whole day wasn't enough even for AI," I pleaded, feeling the weight of the task ahead. "You're asking Lucifer. I'm just excited. I'm not you. Just imagine being ugly plus being in an ugly situation... you're wasting your time... The clock is ticking," he retorted, his words cutting like knives. I sat on a sofa in the office and started to put the files in order, feeling exhausted and defeated. I will like to see you in pain. Out of luck, my boy wants to see daddy, he remarked coldly. More like soulless Zeke, I whispered under my breath, feeling a surge of frustration. "I heard that, May, June, July," he retorted dismissively. "My name is Orianna," I corrected him weakly, feeling the weight of his dismissal. "I don't care," he replied coldly, packing up his things and leaving for home. I abused myself with work, taking no breaks and drinking lots of coffee. When I checked the time, it was 8:00 PM and everyone had left. I was alone, with only 5 files left to organize. I was tired and hungry at the same time. If I see Ezekiel, I'm definitely going to pour so much daisies on my clothes that his allergy starts acting up. He started this, and I will finish it. I went to Mr. Knight's mansion after I was done with the data. I hate lying, but the mansion was huge - I knew it was big, but not as big as a palace. Nobody would believe it if I told them only 2 people live in this mansion, with over 10 workers. Don't worry, I did my research. I had to use map work to get there, and luckily I wasn't involved in a car accident because of being a workaholic. Before entering the mansion, I overheard Mr. Cold-at-Heart talking to his sociopath son. Busy with the files in my hands, I made final touches in the car and checked the time. "Hell yes! I'm one hour earlier. I get to keep the job for another day," I celebrated quietly to myself. Inside the mansion, Ezekiel's voice echoed through the halls. "That girl is something else. First, she calls me Lucifer in training. Then she gives me a nickname. If that isn't enough, she fakes tears. She's really challenging... I'm thankful I got rid of her before she insulted me more." Ryan, his son, interjected with innocence in his voice, "Which girl, daddy? Are you in love?" "In love? Ugh," Ezekiel scoffed in disgust. "With May... never. Like, never." "Dad, you're boring," Ryan whined, tears welling up in his eyes. "I want a mommy... mommy... mommy. I want to be like other kids." I wanted to knock, but I was still praying first because I didn't know what that evil rich, hot and charming bastard was going to say to me. It always stung when Ryan brought up the topic of wanting a mother. His own mother had abandoned him when he needed her most. Ezekiel vowed to never let another woman into his life who could hurt Ryan. Ryan was the only family he had, and he would protect him at all costs. Ryan cried non-stop. I knocked at the door. I'm sure I disturbed their conversation. Ezekiel opened the door. I won't lie, he wasn't pleased. "Oh, not you," he said, looking at me with so much hate. I'm sure his inside self was definitely throwing up. I said, "Good evening, Mr. Knight," showing so much respect to him. Don't blame me, my life depended on this. "It's not really a good evening if I've seen your face," he said those hurtful words with no emotions. He was definitely trying to close the door on my face. "Tsk, I didn't eat just to get this done," I said. I wasn't going to let him get under my skin, not today, not ever. He was like, "It's not like I care. I will check it tomorrow morning." If I had so many opportunities, I was definitely going to split at this hot figure, trust me. "But I thought you needed it today," I said that, I was so annoyed. "Your mind is s**t like you. I need it on Friday for my business proposal." Ezekiel rolled his eyes at me. He rolled his eyes at me, can you believe it? "Friday, but it's Wednesday." He made me do a 3-day work in a day. Wow, if there was an evil award, I was definitely going to give it to him. Ryan's gaze was fixed on me without interruption as I spoke to his irritating father, almost as if he had never seen another human being before. Not that I could blame the kid. With looks like mine, I should be pulling in Ken-level attention. But his staring didn't bother me. All I wanted was to deliver the files, head home, and get some much-needed rest. Then I could regale Shantel with tales of my day, including how Mr. Knight had been a complete jerk and how I had inadvertently insulted him to his face, blissfully unaware that he was Ezekiel himself.
