Bloodpact: A Shadow Between Fangs

Book One of Bloodpact: The Chronicles of the Veil

By Pascal Githinji

In a realm where medieval castles stand beneath neon-lit skies and blood governs more than lineage, five powerful factions live in uneasy harmony. Vampires rule the shadows, werewolves guard the wilds, witches hold the ancient truths, hunters patrol the night, and humans—though fragile—sit on the throne of dominion.

Elara Voss, an orphaned girl with a mysterious bloodline and a past she can't remember, finds herself caught in the crossfire of a broken pact. When her powers awaken after a brutal attack, she becomes a target for every faction—and the key to a prophecy buried for centuries.

As alliances shift and old enemies rise, Elara is drawn into a dangerous love triangle between a charming vampire prince and a fierce werewolf outcast. But something darker brews beneath the surface—a betrayal that could unravel the very fabric of the Veil.

Power. Love. Blood.

One girl stands between salvation and chaos.

Bloodpact: The Chronicles of the Veil
Chapter 1: The Blood Moon Rises Eboncourt had never been silent—not truly. Even in the small hours, when cobblestone streets lay empty and steam hissed softly from iron vents beneath the city, something always stirred beneath the Veil. Tonight, it was the sky that stirred first. A blood moon hung swollen above the towers, casting a crimson hue over ancient stone and rusting neon. It bathed the stained-glass windows of Saint Virelle Cathedral in the same hue as the legends whispered across alleys and classrooms: When the moon bleeds, so shall the world. Elara Voss stood on the wrought-iron balcony of her foster mother’s apothecary, her copper curls tangled by the wind. Something was wrong. She could feel it in her chest—tight, pounding, as if her heart had heard a call her ears could not. She'd had the dream again. A forest drowned in shadow. A woman of smoke with eyes like silver flame. And always, always, the voice: "Return, child of ash. Return before they tear the Veil." “Elara!” a voice called from inside. She startled. “Coming!” she called back, gripping the railing once more. But as her gaze dropped to the alley below, she froze. There, in the fog between flickering streetlamps, stood a man in a long crimson coat. He looked up—not by chance, but as if he’d been waiting for her—and offered the smallest, most terrifying smile. His eyes glowed faintly red. “Elara!” the voice inside shouted again, sharper now. When she looked back down, the man was gone. Later That Night… The glass shattered before she could scream. A cloaked figure hurled through the apothecary window in a blur of black and silver. Books fell. Bottles exploded into sparks of glowing herbs. Elara ducked instinctively, grabbing a blade from the rack behind the counter. A ridiculous thing. A ceremonial dagger. No more real than a stage prop. The figure lunged—fangs bared, snarling, fast as lightning. But just as the vampire struck, another blur intercepted him. This one howled. Fangs met claws. Red eyes met gold. Elara stumbled back into the cellar stairwell, breath frozen. She didn’t know who they were. Or what they wanted. But something inside her cracked. And when it cracked, it burned.
