POLICE WHISPER
Liz walked into the police station a week later, searching for Marco as she approached the counter. A smiling policeman nodded in her direction.
“Can I help you?”
“I have an appointment to see Marco. It’s Liz Randiza.”
He gestured his palm towards the waiting area. “Take a seat. He shouldn’t be too long, Liz.”
“I’ve been here before, and it seems pretty quiet. Where is everyone?”
“An incident maam, but we have other detectives and police out on the road. Only a few left back here.” He fiddled with papers then grabbed the phone to alert Marco.
Her head pressed down into her neck as she pondered whether Marco had a lead on the investigation. Maybe he’d managed to find Johnny or discovered who the guy was who had hit Matthew.
