CHAPTER 10 RESPITE Liz played with the strands of her jet black hair and sat on a wooden stool at a solid square timber table with light casting a glow on her friends’ faces. She gripped her tall glass of skinny iced coffee and shifted her posture. She was with her friends, Bella and Jamie, at their usual cafe in Altona. Suspended light bulbs lined the centre of the cafe, and it featured pictures of bird designs on white-washed walls.
