Chapter one
CHAPTER ONE   Sarah Pov   “You’re fired, pack your things and submit your card when you’re leaving.” My boss, Mr. Peters said to me while he was going through the files on his desk.   ‘But- i- this is not my- I- Can we talk about this sir?” I couldn’t loose my job, not right now when things were going down hill. My rent was about to expire soon and I needed this paycheck to pay half of it, my savings was enough but not enough if i was going to cover other cost.   “You should’ve been more careful to not to be in this position, those files were very important yet you made a mistake with the numbers. You know how much numbers go a long way here-””   “But it wasn’t my assignment, i was only to put the paper together and-” I interrupted him which was an error on my end, Mr. peters eyes narrowed in on me and i swallowed, he was pissed.   “Well, no other person is to be blamed when you’re the one at the starting point,” He said and my mouth dropped open. I turned towards the window where the blinds were slightly opened and i saw them, the two who was utterly responsible for this mess. Freya and Caleb.   I gave them the eye, I wanted them to come in here and explain themselves but they didn’t even bother to move and remained by the window watching as Mr. peter fired me for an error that was clearly there fault.   “I- Freya and Caleb are also involved, they’re responsible to cross check anything for final vetting.” I said and turned back to Mr. Peters, his bald head shone under the light, he clearly wasn’t pleased with my accusation and he glared at me.   “You want to shift whats all your fault to them, that not professional Sarah.” Mr. peter said, he was clearly done with my bullshit and wanted nothing than for me to leave. ‘Go pack your things, don’t make me repeat myself, if i do, then security will throw you out.” He said firmly and i knew better argue.   This was a loss on my end, i want unemployed.   I entered my office and slumped against the closed doors, this couldn’t be happening. It’s- unreal.   The soft knock on the door had me pulling away and i took a deep breath before i opened it, the frown on my face turned into a samll smile. It was Claire, she was my office buddy. One of the people who understood how i felt about this place and the one person that kept me company during my time here.    “Sarah-” her warm voice was enough to get me in tears but i sniffed making sure i didnt make a mess of myself in here. Claire held uto my arms and she made me look at her, her soft brown eyes stared at me with concern, it wasn’t as evil or distorted as the one Mr. Peter had given me.   “Hey- you know its not your fault and he’s being a pain in the arse.” she muttered and i nodded but it was too late, the tears were already spilling from the side of my eyes.   “Thats why it doesn’t make sense Claire, it’s not my fault yet i get punished for it. What am i going to do?” I asked cleaning my eyes with the sleeve of my top, the white material was stained with the patch of my tears but it didn’t matter to me now.   “It-s -” i stammered and walked to my desk where i stared at the space, i sucked in a breath and licked my lips. “I don’t have a job anymore.”   “We would figure something out.” she said but it was typical that Claire was optimistic. She always has been. I proceeded to pack my things, it wasn’t much but i took my time making sure i savored my last time in this space. When i finished Claire hugged me and left soon after she was called to her station, i stepped out of my office and walked down the open space where everyone watched me, i could see the eyes and the whispers danced around my head.   “Guess sleeping with the boss was not enough to keep her job.”   “She should’ve been more intentional with her job then doing mischevious things with her superirors.”   “Did you hear that she slept with some guys from-” I drowned out the rest of the harsh comments and pressed on the elevator buttons.   Now outside the building it dawned on me that i had lost my job. What was i going to tell Auntie, what was i going to tell mum? I chewed on my lips. I can’t tell them that i lost this job, it would be deverstating to tell them i lost the job i worked very hard to get.    I ended up going to the bar where i was sure i could drown in my sorrow without needing to explain to anyone. The place was barely full when i got there and my spot was empty, Perfect. I slid into the booth and slumped on the table.   “Hey Sarah- you’re here quite early, what can i get ya?” I glanced up at the lady standing next to my table, it was Grace, she worked the evening shift at the bar and usually served me and Claire when we came here during the weekend.  “Oh- you don’t look so well.” she said when she saw my face. “Is everything okay?”   “No but i don’t want to talk about it. Just get me something to drink.” I said and she nodded in understanding before moving away to get my drink, when she brought it back she passed me a small smile before she retired to her post.   It was barely even seven when more men began to trope in with their buddies, i was already in my third glass in when one of them thought i needed company. “Hey pretty thing, what are you doing here by yourself?” This one was probably in his late fifties and he had a protruding stomach which his shirt barely contained, his hair was a shade of dirty brown and i was clearly not interested.   “I’m not interested.” i muttered without sparing him another glance.   “What are you trying to prove you-”   “Get lost or i’m calling Dave on you-” Dave was the manager of this place and even if i didn’t know him personally i was sure to get Grace to get him off my back.   “Tsk- so you’re one of dave w***e’s huh, i should’ve known.” He muttered but made no move to leave, i was aready irritated and his comment made my blood boil some more. If i stayed anymore i was sure to get thrown in jail for marking someone’s hair with broken glass. So i did the reasonable and painful thing, i slid out of my seat after placing my tip on there and headed for the door.   “That’s right- walk away shamefully like the -” his words caught off in my throat as i bumped into a hard wall in front of me. I expected to land on my ass but i didn’t as strong hansd wrapped themselves around my waist giving me the support that i needed. My eyes landed on the tall frame in front of me, it was a man who was about six one, or even taller, his green eyes was a shade of enchanting jade that held me bound and his dusty hair fell across his forehead, his suit fit his full frame and with my hands on his upper arms i could feel the taunting muscles beneath them.    “Is something wrong with your eyes?” He said bluntly and it brough me out of my daze.    “It’s not my fault that you can’t watch where you’re going.” i snapped back giving myself space from him, his hands left an imprinting hot touch even through my clothes. “Says the woman who doesn’t walk with her head in front.” he snarled, whoever this guy was i didn’t like him. “Whatever-” i muttered and walked away, when i stepped outside my phone began to buzz in my purse and i frowned at the screen, why was Auntie calling me now, she should know i was on my way back home.   “Auntie, i am almost-”   “Sarah, it’s your mum.” Auntie’s frantic voice greeted me. If my world had not be shattered before, the glass beneath my feet was shattered to a million pieces.
