Empty Seat
I was out of the city for a weekend. I planned this trip randomly as I got fed up with work and I wanted to get away from my daily routine. I booked a room and I had no plans about what to do when I got there. When I arrived at the hotel, I immediately put all my things on the sofa and jumped into bed to rest for a bit. I didn’t realize that I had taken a nap for an hour. Maybe that’s how mentally tired I was? But I got lucky there. Imagine if I woke up twelve hours later.
I checked my phone to look for good restaurants or cafes where I can kill time and just think of nothing. Or maybe watch Netflix shows while enjoying my hot vanilla latte. I was craving a proper meal, so I went to this place that serves chicken wings - I’ll never say no to this food. For this trip, I am allowing myself to splurge. I had no budget. I’ll just let my bank account cry for two days.
After enjoying my meal, I went back to my hotel room to chill and continue watching the series I am almost done with. I decided to get out on the evening and spend the rest of the night in a quiet cafe. It was seven o’clock then, I put on my favorite sweater and comfortable shorts and a pair of sandals. I brought my laptop with me just in case I get some motivation to write in my online journal. I found this small coffee shop with only a few customers in it. I didn’t hesitate and entered when I saw a vacant seat in a comfortable corner. I ordered my vanilla latte and opened my laptop.
To my surprise, more people came in after staying for fifteen minutes in my very nice spot. It was a small coffee shop in a street where not so many restaurants or shops are available. You really need to go for a walk to get there. It wasn’t on the list of the most popular cafes around the place. As I was looking randomly at the people waiting in line, this guy asked if I could share the vacant seat by my table. He directly said that he wouldn’t be a disturbance and he just needed to finish whatever it is that he was writing. Before I could even say yes, he wanted to persuade me more by saying that he finished all the previous chapters in this coffee shop and he wanted to finish the last one here as well. I didn’t dive into it and immediately said yes as I was not doing anything concrete at that time. I was just there to kill time.
