Chapter 14 WHEN CATE PULLS UP to the lodge, Bev’s waiting for her on the porch stairs. Leaping up, Bev races to the mid-90s Corolla, gazing at it momentarily before throwing her arms around Cate. “Oh my God, I’ve been calling you and calling you!” “Why?” Cate asks. “What happened?” Bev pulls back, stares at her blankly. “You were in a car accident. Oh God, don’t tell me you’ve forgotten already.” One clammy hand presses against Cate’s forehead. “You must be concussed. Have you seen a doctor?” “I don’t need a doctor, and I’m definitely not a concussed.” Cate jingles the Toyota’s keys. “Your car, on the other hand...” “Forget about the car, Cate.
