Chapter 7Eli and Johnny
It was snowing lightly when Ludwig, Eddie, and I pulled into the hospital parking lot. A cab was waiting out front. I made sure it was waiting for TJ.
“Are you here for Theodore Johnson? Maybe Johnny Orange?”
The driver looked at me funny. “Johnson,” he said, “yeah.”
Passing him two one hundred-dollar bills, I suggested he go get his sweetheart and have a good night.
TJ’s text had said his mom was doing fine. She’d be staying over, but just because she had a fever, probably a winter bug. He told me he’d be leaving when visiting hours ended, by order of his mother’s nurse.
