Achilles was startled at what Mel had said. He couldn't help it as a comically wide grin spread across his face. Maybe he was getting somewhere with her.
"You're welcome," he said.
Mel quickly averted her eyes from Achilles' and took a step back.
"Um, yeah. Let's go pay for this hairbrush."
Achilles' smile dropped a bit at her blatant deflection, "Of course."
The pair walked up to a cashier wearing a bright floral dress. Achilles quickly paid the total in cash. Ten dollars exactly, Mel made sure to memorize it.
The person chirped at them to have a good day as they made their way out of the store. The route to the exit was swamped with humans and supernatural species galore. Mel bit down harshly on her cheek.
Achilles noticed Mel's apprehension and let his Alpha aura flood out from within him. He would get her out of here as quickly as possible. If not for her obvious anxiety then for the lustful looks from other people that she was receiving.
Mel felt it right away and immediately swooned. Why did Achilles have to do something so irresistible when she was trying her best to keep her hands to herself?
"Holy s**t," Mel mumbled to herself as Achilles began to walk. The crowd parted like the Red Sea, not helping Mel's desire.
Mel started walking behind him wither eyes to the floor. She tried to control her erratic heart with deep breaths. When she felt a bit steadier she looked up, but to her dismay Achilles was nowhere in sight.
"Hello, beautiful. What is your name?"
Startled, Mel looked up at a handsome brown-haired boy. He was tall, and Mel could tell he was a werewolf from his scent.
"I'm Mel," she said simply.
"That's unique, I like it. I'm Dawson, from Howling Claw."
Mel knew from years of training that Howling Claw pack was to the east of Blood Shift pack. Other packs boarded Blood Shift, but they were all smaller and not nearly as notable as Howling Claw.
"I've heard that's a nice pack to live in," Mel said. "I just moved to Blood Shift from Dark Fang. So far it has been super nice here. Alpha Achilles has been welcoming."
The boy's face light up, "Achilles is great. We would always hang out when our parents had meetings, too bad I haven't seen him in a bit."
"It's a good thing I'm right here," A deep voice said.
Mel turned to her left and Achilles was there. It was as if he appeared out of thin air. He shuffled closer to Mel's side and narrowed his eyes at Dawson.
Achilles did like Dawson, but he was not a fan of how he was looking at Mel. If not for Mel's idiotic deal, he could show Dawson Mel was his. He had to respect what she wanted though.
"It's been forever Achilles," Dawson exclaimed. "I was just talking to Mel about you. Apparently, this beauty is new to your pack?"
Achilles fought a growl down and looked up at Dawson, "Yup."
Mel felt like the tension between the two was choking her, but it was like Dawson didn't even notice.
"It has great here, much better than Dark Fang pack. Anyway-"
"Wait a minute," Dawson interjected. "Mel from Dark Fang pack."
"That's her," Achilles said firmly. "What does that have to do with anything?"
Dawson's eyes widened, "You're the girl that was supposed to be the Gamma there, but then you ran away."
Mel's heart palpitated.
"So that also makes you the girl from the attack. You're the Gamma pair's daughter."
Achilles grabbed Mel's wrist and began tugging her away, "We're done here."
Everything blurred together as Achilles dragged Mel out of the mall. Before Mel even noticed she was opening the car door and getting in.
"So, people know who I am," Mel stated.
Achilles sighed, "Seems like they do."
Mel's mind kicked into overdrive trying to think of possible solutions to salvage herself.
"Maybe we should talk to Dawson. He might know how all of this got out, or what exactly everybody knows."
Achilles growled, "I don't want to talk to him."
"And why is that?"
Mel was sure she already knew the answer.
"Well, first off, he wouldn't stop checking you out. Second, he had no regard for keeping you safe. He was practically shouting that information off of the roof. We can find out what we need to know ourselves."
Mel could feel herself getting frustrated and she was sure Achilles was as well.
"Why don't turn on the radio and then when we get back we'll talk with Bentley."
Achilles wasn't thrilled with going into this with virtually no plans, but maybe a moment to clear their heads was just what they needed. Then they could think logically instead of with their emotions. Goddess knows I do plenty of that, Achilles thought.
"Fine," he relented.
Achilles turned on the generic pop station that he hated. He assumed most girls liked pop so that's what he put on. He rolled his eyes as the empty lyrics filled the air.
Mel looked out the window as Achilles pulled out of the parking lot. She didn't know the song on the radio and she didn't care too. Rock music was always more her style. A faint smile played at her lips as she thought of her old friends and her jamming out in her bedroom.
Her heart longed for those days as she turned her head and looked at Achilles. He looked like he was barely containing his distaste for the song that just came on.
"You hate this," Mel affirmed.
"I do."
"What do you like?"
Achilles' eyes flicked to her and then back to the road, "Is this you trying to say you don't like the music either?"
"It's awful," Mel confessed.
"Oh thank Goddess," Achilles said.
He immediately changed the radio to a random station. He didn't care what it was as long as it wasn't more pop music. Come as You Are by Nirvana was on and he smiled as he heard Mel gasp.
"I love this song! My friends and I played it so much that my parents were this close to banning it in my house." Mel's fingers were barely a centimeter apart as she laughed.
Achilles didn't even think as he pulled the car over. His body was moving on its own as he sat there fiddling with his hands.
"Achilles?"
Mel unbuckled her seatbelt and grabbed Achilles' face in her hands. She turned his head so that he would face her.
Achilles stared into her eyes as his breath hitched in his chest.
"Are you okay?"
"Not really, Mel."
"Why is that?"
Achilles turned to face Mel, "Because I have the overwhelming urge to kiss you right now."
Mel's eyes widened but she quickly recovered, "Do it then."
"Mel are you sure you want-"
Mel crushed her lips to Achilles' and nearly melted against his soft lips. The soft growl that he let out only encouraged her and she nipped at his bottom lip. She smirked as she pulled away.
"You talk too much."
"Oh, yeah?" Achilles asked.
"Yeah," Mel answered.
Achilles pulled Mel in and aggressively molded his lips against hers. This was like no kiss Mel had ever had before. Tingles spread throughout her entire body and she felt like she was going to pass out. She was forced to pull away due to the stupidity of breathing.
Achilles looked at Mel with dark eyes as he reveled in the feel of her lips on his. His second kiss only to the one he had with his sixth-grade crush.
Neither of them spoke as they sat staring at the other.
"Damn," Achilles mumbled huskily.
"That was the best kiss I've ever had," Mel agreed.
Achilles growled lowly.
"Are you growling because I've kissed other guys or because I complimented your kissing?"
"Both," Achilles growled.
"Well don't stop because I find it hot."
Achilles barely stopped himself from making out with his mate forever as he buckled his seatbelt and got back onto the road. He couldn't help himself wondering how many people Mel had kissed. His wolf growled as he thought about killing every one of them.
"You were my first real kiss," he admitted. "I mean Julie in the sixth grade kissed great and all, but..."
Mel felt guilt creep into her chest, "I'm not going to lie to you, when I was Gamma I went through a lot of boys. None of them ever meant anything to me though. Not like that kiss just did."
Achilles growled softly and shoved his wolf down.
"Good. I intended to give you thousands of more kisses just like that."
Mel had a devious thought as they pulled into the driveway of the packhouse.
"You'd better. Or else..."
Mel left her sentence hanging as she walked into the packhouse and rushed up the stairs into her room. She knew Achilles would follow her, and her suspicions were confirmed as he burst through the door.
"Or else what Mel?"
Mel shrugged innocently and lined herself up with the door. She would have a perfect escape.
"Or else I'll have Dawson do it for you."
Achilles let out a lethal growl and Mel raced for the door. But arms gripped her waist roughly before she could leave. She was thrown onto the bed as Achilles guarded the door.
"My mate," a rough voice forced out.
Mel then knew she was dealing with Achilles' wolf, not him. Se had really put him over the edge. Oops, Mel giggled to herself.
"I was just kidding. Cain, you're the only one I want to kiss. Except for Achilles, clearly."
Cain walked closer to Mel with his gold eyes boring into hers.
"Not laugh," Cain growled in his broken English. "Only us kiss."
Mel sighed, "I know it wasn't funny now. I didn't think you'd be so angry about it. I promise I won't kiss Dawson."
Cain nodded but titled his head. He placed his hand over Mel's heart again and looked confused.
"Fast? Scared?"
"No, it's not because I'm scared."
Mel felt her cheeks heat up as she looked up at Cain.
A low growl erupted from his chest as he understood what Mel was saying. But right before he could kiss her the door burst open.
"Achilles you mind linked me, oh my, I'm so sorry."
Mel was shoved behind Cain as he growled at Bentley.
"Even better, Cain has decided to make an appearance."
Mel could barely stifle a giggle.
"Dude, I don't want your mate. Have you forgotten I'm gay Cainy boy? If anything it would be more likely for me to kiss you," Bentley raised his voice. "You hear that Mel? I'm going to steal your man."
Mel busted out laughing, as Achilles groaned.
"What the hell, Bentley?"
"You started it with that big scary Alpha stuff."
"You did," Mel chimed in.
Achilles scoffed, "Actually if we're being technical you are the one that started it when you said you'd kiss Dawson."
Bentley gave Mel a look, "Sorry, have to side with him. Not only because he's right, but because he'll hurt me if I don't."
Achilles smiled triumphantly.
Bentley quickly whispered, "He is hot though."
"Whatever," Mel hissed under her breath.
But there was no hiding the giant smile that had grown roots on her face.

Yes, I know it's kinda short.
