Savannah wanted to curl up on the floor and cry feeling sorry for herself, but she knew it wouldn’t help her. She needed to get to Dr. Jabari. He obviously had been there a few days, so he knew the area. Maybe he was even kept in the hut next to hers. There wasn’t much distance between the two huts. She could talk to him through the walls.
Sunshine streamed through the open slats giving her enough light to see around her humble abode. She purposely didn’t look at the ground where her father’s heart laid. If she thought about it, she might throw up again, and already the room stunk of her vomit and his blood.
