Rose was going to die. She was going to die very soon! The Gift allowed her to face that knowledge without fear. It also gave her that knowledge. She could sense a large group of Gifted on a nearby ship, could sense they planned to ram the Wanderer at high speed.
Not that they were just trying to destroy the Wanderer. That was one possible outcome, but not their plan. They estimated Jess would have a chance of surviving even so fierce a collision.
