Clay reached past Zeek and hit a button, freezing what was sent to the Wanderer. Jess was certain to suspect there were more secrets being kept and he’d be right, but he couldn’t be allowed to hear what Clay was about to say.
“Zeek, think! Yes there’s a risk, but in the long run does it matter? You can see how badly things are going. Between the Empire and the Taint there won’t be anything left soon. No safe havens. Nowhere to pick up supplies. Nowhere to hide. I know you’re trying to protect your people but the only way to do that right now is for the Taint to be stopped. The Wanderer is by far the best hope of that happening.”
