Jess had no trouble convincing the freighters to let him help. They’d seen the Wanderer, and Clay, turn up and destroy the Imperial attackers which counted heavily in Jess’s favour. He suspected the fact the freighters wouldn’t actually have any contact with Jess, or the Wanderer, counted for a lot more, though. Even if he was carrying the Taint they wouldn’t be exposed.
The people on the station were another matter, as Zeek had predicted, but their level of resistance was inversely proportional to how much danger they were in, especially if they had children with them. For most the possible risk of the Taint paled next to the imminent, and often very painful, deaths they faced.
