Chapter 23 With food, water and blankets for warmth Nova and Karina’s lives dropped into a rhythm. At night they slept close together, sharing warmth and blankets. Nova ripped one blanket up to create a rope she could tie around both of them while they slept. She put the knots in places she was sure would be impossible to undo without waking her up. Karina accepted that without comment which Nova took as a sign the old woman had at least some idea of her blank periods. When Nova woke each morning she found out what kind of day it was going to be.
