EPISODE 11 — THE MESSAGE FROM THE FUTURE
Tesla stared at the console.
“Temporal?”
The machine continued.
“PRIMARY SUBJECT IDENTIFIED.”
A pause.
“NIKOLA TESLA.”
Another pause.
“TEMPORAL STATUS: ANOMALOUS.”
Tesla stepped closer.
“What does anomalous mean?”
Elena answered quietly.
“It means the machine doesn't know when you belong.”
Tesla looked at her.
“What do you mean?”
Elena walked toward the console and studied the streams of numbers moving across the screen.
“According to the system, you shouldn't exist in this time.”
Tesla's expression hardened.
“But I am here.”
“I know.”
“And you are telling me that I shouldn't be?”
Elena hesitated.
“I am telling you that the machine believes your presence has created a temporal contradiction.”
Tesla looked around the underground laboratory.
The enormous chamber was filled with equipment he could barely understand. Blue lights pulsed beneath the floor. Cables disappeared into the walls. Strange symbols appeared and vanished across transparent screens.
Almost everything around him had been built using principles he recognized.
Electricity.
Magnetism.
Frequency.
Resonance.
But someone had taken those principles much further.
Far beyond anything Tesla had imagined.
“Who built this place?” he asked.
Elena didn't answer immediately.
Instead, she touched the console.
A three-dimensional image appeared above it.
It showed Earth.
Then the image changed.
The planet became surrounded by rings of energy.
Tesla stared.
“What is that?”
“A temporal field.”
“A machine capable of surrounding the Earth?”
“No.”
Elena looked at him.
“A machine capable of surrounding time.”
Tesla remained silent.
For the first time since waking, genuine fear appeared in his eyes.
Not fear of death.
Fear of what humanity had become.
“Why was I brought here?” he asked.
“We don't know.”
“You said the machine awakened me.”
“It did.”
“Then someone programmed it.”
Elena nodded.
“Yes.”
“Who?”
“We don't know.”
Tesla turned toward the enormous chamber.
“Then we have a problem.”
“We have a much bigger problem.”
Suddenly, the lights went out.
The entire laboratory became black.
Elena froze.
Tesla heard a low mechanical vibration beneath his feet.
Then a red light appeared.
One.
Two.
Three.
Emergency systems activated.
A voice came from the speakers.
“WARNING.”
Elena moved toward Tesla.
“Stay away from the console.”
“Why?”
“Because something is trying to connect.”
Tesla looked at the screen.
A message appeared.
INCOMING TEMPORAL TRANSMISSION.
Tesla stared at it.
“From where?”
Elena whispered the answer.
“From the future.”
The laboratory shook.
A deep sound passed through the walls.
Tesla placed one hand on the console.
“Can we receive it?”
Elena grabbed his arm.
“We don't know what will happen.”
Tesla looked at her.
“My entire life was spent trying to understand the unknown.”
He turned back to the machine.
“I am not going to stop now.”
Elena slowly released him.
Tesla pressed the activation control.
The room filled with light.
For several seconds nothing happened.
Then a human voice came through the speakers.
Distorted.
Weak.
Almost mechanical.
“Can you hear me?”
Tesla stared at the console.
“Yes.”
The voice became clearer.
“Who are you?”
Tesla answered.
“Nikola Tesla.”
Silence.
Then the voice whispered:
“We finally found you.”
Tesla looked at Elena.
“What does that mean?”
The voice continued.
“You must not trust the machine.”
Elena immediately stepped forward.
“Who are you?”
The transmission crackled.
“Your time is already collapsing.”
Tesla's face changed.
“Explain.”
“We tried to correct the timeline.”
“Who is we?”
“The survivors.”
A loud burst of static interrupted the transmission.
Tesla leaned closer.
“What survivors?”
The voice returned.
“Listen carefully, Tesla. You were not brought here to save our future.”
Tesla frowned.
“Then why?”
“To prevent something from happening.”
“What?”
The voice became almost inaudible.
“Your death.”
Tesla froze.
Elena looked at him.
“But Tesla died almost a century ago.”
The voice answered.
“Exactly.”
Tesla slowly stepped backward.
“You are saying that my death caused this?”
“No.”
The transmission distorted again.
“Your death was supposed to happen.”
Tesla's eyes narrowed.
“Supposed to?”
“Yes.”
“And what happened instead?”
The voice became silent.
Then one sentence appeared on the screen.
THE TIMELINE WAS CHANGED.
Tesla stared at the words.
“By whom?”
The answer came immediately.
“By you.”
Tesla shook his head.
“That is impossible.”
The voice responded.
“Not yet.”
Suddenly the screen changed.
A date appeared.
2039.
Then another.
2047.
Then another.
2061.
Tesla watched in silence as the dates moved rapidly forward.
Cities appeared.
Wars.
Collapsed governments.
Massive storms.
Power failures.
Millions of people standing in darkness.
Then the images changed.
A huge tower rose above a futuristic city.
At its center was the same symbol Tesla had seen inside the laboratory.
He pointed toward the screen.
“That machine.”
“Yes.”
“Who controls it?”
The voice answered:
“Everyone.”
Tesla looked confused.
“That is impossible.”
“That's what they told us.”
The screen went black.
Then another image appeared.
A young man stood in front of the tower.
His face was hidden by shadows.
Tesla studied him.
“Who is that?”
The voice answered:
“Your descendant.”
Tesla's eyes widened.
“I have no children.”
“Not directly.”
The image disappeared.
Elena looked at Tesla.
“You have a family in the future?”
Tesla didn't respond.
He was still staring at the empty screen.
The transmission continued.
“Tesla, you must understand something.”
“I am listening.”
“You were never supposed to be revived.”
“Then why revive me?”
“Because someone in 2026 discovered the original temporal equation.”
Tesla's eyes narrowed.
“Who?”
The voice hesitated.
“Dr. Adrian Voss.”
Elena immediately stepped backward.
Tesla noticed.
“You know him.”
Elena said nothing.
“You know that name.”
“I knew him.”
“What happened?”
“He disappeared.”
“When?”
“Three years ago.”
Tesla looked toward the console.
“Where did he go?”
“No one knows.”
The voice from the future interrupted.
“He is not missing.”
Elena looked terrified.
“Then where is he?”
The voice answered:
“He is here.”
The doors of the laboratory suddenly slammed shut.
Tesla turned.
A metallic locking sound echoed through the chamber.
Elena rushed toward the exit.
“It locked itself.”
Tesla approached the door.
“Can you open it?”
“No.”
The lights changed from blue to red.
A new message appeared.
INTRUDER DETECTED.
Elena looked at Tesla.
“We have to leave.”
“How?”
She pointed toward a narrow corridor.
“There is another exit.”
They began running.
Behind them, machines activated.
Tesla could hear mechanical footsteps.
Not human.
Something was moving inside the laboratory.
They reached the corridor.
Elena opened a metal door.
“Inside.”
Tesla entered.
The door closed behind them.
They stood in darkness.
Elena switched on a small flashlight.
Tesla looked at her.
“You knew this place better than you admitted.”
Elena avoided his eyes.
“I've been here before.”
“When?”
“Before you woke up.”
Tesla stopped.
“You were here when the machine activated.”
“Yes.”
“Why didn't you tell me?”
“Because I wasn't sure I could trust you.”
Tesla stared at her.
“You thought I was dangerous?”
“No.”
“Then what?”
“I thought the man who woke up might not be Nikola Tesla.”
Tesla's expression became serious.
“You believe I am an imitation.”
“I don't know.”
Tesla slowly approached her.
“Then ask me something only Nikola Tesla would know.”
Elena looked at him.
“Very well.”
She paused.
“What did you see the last night before you died?”
Tesla's face changed.
For a moment, the laboratory seemed to disappear.
He remembered the hotel room.
The quiet.
The papers.
The endless calculations.
The feeling that his life was nearing its end.
But there was something else.
Something he had never told anyone.
“I saw a light,” he said.
Elena waited.
“A blue light.”
“Where?”
“In the window.”
“And what did you hear?”
Tesla closed his eyes.
“A voice.”
Elena stared at him.
“What did it say?”
Tesla opened his eyes.
“It said my name.”
The flashlight trembled in Elena's hand.
“What else?”
Tesla whispered:
“Remember the future.”
Elena stepped backward.
“That phrase…”
“What?”
“I've seen it before.”
“Where?”
“In Dr. Voss's notes.”
Tesla looked at her.
“Then perhaps I am exactly who I claim to be.”
A noise came from the other side of the door.
They both became silent.
Something scratched against the metal.
Slowly.
Three times.
Scratch.
Scratch.
Scratch.
Elena covered her mouth.
Tesla looked around the room.
There was nowhere to hide.
The scratching stopped.
Then a voice came through the door.
“Professor Tesla.”
Tesla froze.
The voice was calm.
Human.
“Professor Tesla, I know you're in there.”
Elena whispered:
“Voss.”
Tesla moved toward the door.
“Adrian Voss?”
A laugh came from the other side.
“Yes.”
Tesla's eyes narrowed.
“Why did you bring me back?”
Silence.
Then Voss answered.
“I didn't.”
Tesla looked at Elena.
Voss continued.
“The machine brought you back because it needed a key.”
“A key to what?”
“To the future.”
Tesla stepped closer to the door.
“You altered the timeline.”
“No.”
“Then who did?”
“You did.”
Tesla shook his head.
“You keep saying that.”
“Because it is true.”
“What did I do?”
“You invented something that should never have been invented.”
Tesla's voice became cold.
“I invented many things.”
“Not in your lifetime.”
A pause.
“After your death.”
Tesla's expression changed.
Voss continued.
“Your notebooks contained equations nobody understood.”
“I wrote many equations.”
“One of them was incomplete.”
Tesla looked at Elena.
“What equation?”
Elena answered:
“The temporal resonance equation.”
Tesla became silent.
Voss laughed softly.
“You recognize it.”
Tesla finally spoke.
“I wrote the theoretical foundations.”
“And someone finished them.”
“Who?”
“You.”
Tesla stared at the door.
“That is impossible.”
“Not if you had another chance.”
The lights flickered.
Voss continued.
“The machine was designed to create that chance.”
Tesla looked toward Elena.
“You knew.”
She shook her head.
“I knew there was a temporal experiment. I didn't know it involved you.”
Voss spoke again.
“Professor, there is very little time.”
Tesla answered:
“Then tell me the truth.”
“I am trying.”
“Why is the future sending messages?”
“Because they are afraid.”
“Of what?”
Voss didn't answer.
Tesla waited.
Finally, the voice returned.
“Of you.”
The corridor became silent.
Tesla slowly turned toward Elena.
“Why would the future fear me?”
Elena looked at the floor.
“Because you're the only person who can stop what is coming.”
Tesla looked toward the door.
“Open it.”
Voss said:
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because if you leave this room, they will find you.”
“Who?”
“The ones who control the machine.”
Tesla looked confused.
“You said everyone controls it.”
“I was wrong.”
“Who controls it?”
Voss whispered:
“Your future self.”
Tesla stared at the door.
The words seemed impossible.
“My future self is dead.”
“Not anymore.”
A sudden explosion shook the corridor.
Elena fell to the ground.
Tesla caught her.
The door opened.
Voss stood outside.
He looked older than the photograph Elena had shown Tesla.
His hair was gray.
His face was tired.
But his eyes were sharp.
Tesla stared at him.
“You look different.”
Voss smiled.
“So do you.”
Tesla stepped forward.
“Explain.”
Voss pointed toward the main chamber.
“We don't have time.”
They followed him.
When they returned to the laboratory, the enormous machine was active.
At its center floated a sphere of blue energy.
Tesla stopped.
“What is that?”
Voss answered:
“The temporal core.”
Tesla approached it.
He could feel electricity moving through his body.
The sphere pulsed.
Once.
Twice.
Then it projected an image.
Tesla saw himself.
Older.
Much older.
Standing in the same laboratory.
But the laboratory was different.
The machines were larger.
The walls were covered with symbols.
And behind the older Tesla stood hundreds of people.
The older Tesla turned toward the camera.
His face was calm.
Then he spoke.
“If you are seeing this message, I failed.”
Tesla stared at his future self.
The recording continued.
“I believed I could control time.”
The older Tesla looked directly into the camera.
“I was wrong.”
The image changed.
The Earth appeared.
A wave of blue energy spread across the planet.
Cities vanished.
Oceans changed.
The sky became dark.
Tesla's eyes widened.
The older Tesla continued.
“I created a machine capable of opening a door between moments.”
The recording showed the temporal core.
“But every door has two sides.”
Tesla whispered:
“What did you let through?”
The older Tesla looked frightened.
“The future.”
The recording ended.
Silence filled the laboratory.
Tesla turned toward Voss.
“You knew.”
“Yes.”
“How much?”
“Enough to know that we have less than twenty-four hours.”
Elena looked at the machine.
“Until what?”
Voss answered:
“The second activation.”
Tesla stepped closer.
“What happens then?”
“The timeline will synchronize.”
“And?”
“Every version of reality connected to this machine will collapse into one.”
Tesla understood.
“Millions of possibilities will become one reality.”
“Yes.”
“And if the wrong reality survives?”
Voss looked at him.
“There will be no second chance.”
Tesla looked at the machine.
“What must I do?”
Voss hesitated.
“You must destroy the temporal core.”
Tesla stared at him.
“And if I do?”
“We lose the ability to return you to your original time.”
Tesla slowly smiled.
“My original time no longer exists.”
Elena looked at him.
“What are you saying?”
Tesla turned toward her.
“I have already died once.”
He looked at the machine.
“I am not afraid of dying again.”
The temporal core suddenly pulsed.
A voice came from the speakers.
Not Voss.
Not the machine.
Tesla's own voice.
“Do not destroy it.”
Tesla froze.
The voice repeated:
“Do not destroy the core.”
Voss stepped backward.
“No.”
Tesla looked at him.
“You recognize that voice.”
Voss nodded.
“That is the future Tesla.”
The voice continued.
“If you destroy the core, humanity will lose its only chance.”
Tesla stepped toward the sphere.
“A chance for what?”
“To survive.”
Tesla asked:
“Survive what?”
The answer came.
“Us.”
The laboratory doors opened.
Hundreds of red lights appeared in the darkness beyond.
Something was coming.
Voss grabbed a weapon from the wall.
Elena moved beside Tesla.
“What are they?” she asked.
Voss looked toward the corridor.
“People from the future.”
Tesla stared.
“Why would they come here?”
“To stop you.”
The first figure entered the laboratory.
Then another.
Then dozens.
They wore dark uniforms and metallic masks.
At the center of their chests was the same symbol Tesla had seen in the future.
The leader stepped forward.
“Professor Tesla.”
Tesla remained calm.
“You came a long way.”
The leader removed his mask.
Tesla stared.
The man looked strangely familiar.
Not because he had seen him before.
Because he looked like someone who could have been his son.
The man spoke.
“My name is Nikola Tesla.”
The laboratory became silent.
Elena whispered:
“That is impossible.”
The future Tesla smiled.
“No.”
He looked directly at the original Tesla.
“What's impossible is that you are still alive.”
Tesla studied him.
“You claim to be me.”
“I am.”
“Then answer one question.”
“Ask.”
“What did I discover at the end of my life?”
The future Tesla answered without hesitation.
“That electricity was never the true source of power.”
The original Tesla's eyes widened.
He continued:
“The true source was resonance.”
Tesla smiled.
“You are me.”
“Yes.”
“Then why are you trying to stop me?”
The future Tesla looked toward the temporal core.
“Because I know what happens if you succeed.”
“And what happens?”
“You save humanity.”
Tesla waited.
“And?”
The future Tesla lowered his voice.
“You become its greatest enemy.”
The words echoed through the laboratory.
Tesla looked at Elena.
Then at Voss.
Then at his future self.
“What did I become?”
The future Tesla answered:
“The architect of the final world.”
The temporal core began to glow brighter.
A countdown appeared.
00:23:59:59
Twenty-four hours.
The future Tesla raised his weapon.
“We don't have much time.”
Tesla stepped toward him.
“Neither do you.”
The future Tesla smiled.
“No.”
He lowered the weapon.
“That is why I came back.”
Tesla looked confused.
“To ask you for help.”
The room fell silent.
The future Tesla continued:
“I am not here to kill you.”
“Then why?”
“To stop myself.”
Tesla understood.
“You want me to prevent your future.”
“Yes.”
“And if I do?”
The future Tesla looked at the temporal core.
“You will save the world.”
He paused.
“But you will erase me.”
Tesla looked at the man standing before him.
For the first time, he felt something stronger than fear.
He felt pity.
The future Tesla slowly removed a small device from his pocket.
He placed it on the floor.
“This contains the coordinates of the original temporal breach.”
Tesla picked it up.
“Where?”
The future Tesla answered:
“Your laboratory.”
Tesla stared.
“My laboratory?”
“Yes.”
“In 1900.”
The machine suddenly screamed.
Every light in the laboratory exploded at once.
The temporal core opened.
A massive blue wave moved toward Tesla.
Elena shouted:
“Tesla!”
He turned.
For one second, he saw the future.
He saw cities.
He saw wars.
He saw children running through dark streets.
He saw machines covering the planet.
He saw himself standing before the world.
Then he saw something else.
A small girl holding a photograph.
The photograph showed Tesla.
She looked into the camera and whispered:
“Please come home.”
The vision disappeared.
Tesla fell to his knees.
Elena ran toward him.
“Are you okay?”
Tesla slowly stood.
“Yes.”
“What did you see?”
Tesla looked at the temporal core.
“The future.”
“Which future?”
He looked at her.
“All of them.”
Voss stepped forward.
“And?”
Tesla's expression became determined.
“We don't destroy the machine.”
Voss stared at him.
“Then what?”
“We change what it was built to do.”
The future Tesla looked surprised.
“You can't.”
Tesla smiled.
“I have spent my entire life proving impossible things possible.”
He turned toward the machine.
“Let's begin.”
The countdown continued.
23:41:17
Tesla placed both hands on the console.
The machine responded.
A new message appeared.
TEMPORAL EQUATION REQUIRED.
Tesla closed his eyes.
He remembered the equations.
The notebooks.
The experiments.
The nights without sleep.
The theories that had seemed impossible.
Then he remembered the voice from his past.
Remember the future.
He opened his eyes.
“I understand now.”
Elena asked:
“What?”
Tesla looked at the machine.
“The message was never sent from the future.”
She stared at him.
“Then where did it come from?”
Tesla answered:
“From me.”
The future Tesla slowly smiled.
“Yes.”
The machine activated.
And somewhere outside the laboratory, the world changed.
TO BE CONTINUED.
