Lilian's POV
"With that beautiful ending, we'll end today." I smiled up at the children. English Literature was over for the students. They immediately thanked me and began pack their things.
"Lucien why haven't you submitted your work?" I placed a hand on my hip as I stared at the thirteen year old before me. The rest of the class were already starting to take their leave.
"Yes I have. It's somewhere in that huge pile." He said indignantly as he pretended to pack his stuff in a hurry. His stuff meaning his one pencil and one book.
"No it isn't Lucien." I said flatly.
"But it has to be Miss Vidarr!" Instead of answering him, I raised a brow and waited for another excuse.
"Okay, okay! What if I told you my father's horse ate it?" He gave me a cheeky grin. Having had enough of his shenanigans, I walked up to him and pinched his left ear.
"Owh! Owh! What do you want from me?!"
"A little bit of effort." I said strictly before letting go. He held his ear as if I ate it.
"I expect it on my desk tomorrow Lucien. I don't care how bad it is. I just want to see you put some effort into your writing. Is that too much for you?" My tone was kinder this time. He was a smart boy, I know he was. He was just too playful.
"Mhhmm." He grunted.
"What was that?" I asked again.
"Okay." He gritted out.
"You may go now Lucien. Remember, I want the essay tomorrow." He nodded and ran out of the class as if it he got his freedom after ten years.
Brushing my long, red cotton dress I packed all my stuff from my small desk which included the students' homework.
It was going to be a busy day today but I couldn't say I didn't miss it.
I was glad to face a normal day after weeks of being 'incapable'. I welcomed my busy schedule with open arms. Smiling to myself, I secretly thanked the wonderful man named Kyle Robins. He who saved me.
"What are you smiling about?" I heard a deep voice from the entrance of the classroom. I jumped in fright and saw my grandfather standing there.
"Oh, please don't sneak up on me like that!"
"I didn't. You were the one lost in your thoughts." He said with a small smile.
"You miss him don't you?" He asked knowing as he stepped in.
"Yeah I do. I know I'm being a love sick puppy. I mean it's only been a day but I can't help it."
"I understand. But you did ask for a break. You do need to gain your strength back Lily. Rest well and see him in a few days." My grandfather caressed my cheek with the back of his hand. Giving a nod, I walked out of the classroom. There was work to do at home too.
I found my way out of the building and welcomed the warm Sun. Just as I stepped out into the courtyard, my skin began to prickle. I didn't know what it was but I suddenly felt very uncomfortable.
Slowly, goosebumps spread across my skin. The sensation felt somewhat familiar. Like I've lived through it before. I looked around frantically. There was nothing. A few people lingered near the school but they were already leaving.
I hugged my bag closer and began to walk towards the gates. Just as I was nearing it, a boy stepped out from the other side of the gates. He was dressed casually but better than most of the students here. A plain white t-shirt with a denim jacket over it. Blue jeans covered his legs charmingly and he had a pair of white sport shoes. His hair however was hidden with a stylish denim cap.
That cap.
Knowing full well who the kid was, I stopped in my tracks. The I began to move backwards, away from the deadly creature who had caused me so much pain for some reason.
Beads of sweat formed on my forehead as my mind took me into that dark space again. All those sleepless nights and those imaginary creatures that almost ruined my life. I looked at him and all I wanted to do was run away.
Because all I could see standing before me was a creature capable of nothing but pain and torment. Just like the rest of his kind. They killed and destroyed. Just because they could. Before he came closer I eyed the door that would lead into the building. I could run inside but my grandfather was there.
"True. And you forget that I am way faster than humans. You won't be able to take one full step before I get you." He said pointedly. He whole demeanor was cool and calm. Like someone who knew they always had the upper hand.
That was what terrified me most.
Prince Timothy looked up allowing me to see his striking baby blue eyes that I once thought quite pretty. Now I only saw a sky full of threat and uncertainty in them.
He had already stepped closer towards me. He was only a few feet away now. My bag scrunched up due to my tightening grip on it.
"I will not come any closer." He stated. He was reading me so freely, ripping away my privacy or the freedom I had to have any.
"Stay the hell out of my head." I whispered with a shaky voice. A shiver ran up my spin as I stood frozen on my spot.
"Brave. I like that."
"What do you want from me?" I blurted out as soon as he said that.
"You will address me properly. I still don't like you very much." I looked down and tried to calm myself. He was right. I should address the royal pure blood properly. I couldn't give them a reason to kill me or throw me into the dungeons.
"What do you want from me, Your Highness? Haven't you had enough?" I forced the words out of my mouth.
"How is Kyle?" As soon as he mentioned Kyle's name, my anger flared up. How dare he? How dare he pretend to care? He must have read me again because he seemed more intrigued.
"You have recovered. That is impressive." He said lowly. My eyes snapped to him while he looked at his shoes.
"Why?" That was all I could bring myself to ask.
"Because I didn't like you. I still don't like you."
"You could have told me that, Your Highness." I bit back.
"Yeah, I suppose I could have but I wouldn't get the satisfaction I so desperately craved for. That satisfaction could only come out of your misery." I felt like I was about to throw up. He said it so directly with a so much venom in his voice.
"W..why are y..you here? Have you come to complete what you started Your Highness?" I hugged my bag, suddenly worried for my life and the lives of my loved ones. Flashes of sweet memories I had with Kyle flooded my mind.
That alone brought tears to my eyes.
"Before you decide to destroy me, Kyle needs to know I love him. You tell him that after you get the 'satisfaction' you want so badly. That's all I ask." My blood ran cold the moment I realized Prince Timothy might have dropped by to end my life. However terrible that may sound, it was better than all the horror he put me through.
We were left in a heavy silence that was eating me up. When I looked at him, he had his hands in his pocket and he was staring at me.
"What are you waiting for?!" I gritted out in anger and fear.
He didn't say anything, he just stared at me as if he was trying to solve an equation. When I looked into his eyes, I saw that there was no malice or hatred. No will to destroy anything. They were just filled with curiosity now. The kind of curiosity present in the children I teach.
"You really do like him." He muttered after a long uncomfortable pause.
"I don't like him. I love him." I stated confidently.
"Even in the face of a possible death, your mind is filled with my human." A frown made it's way to my face. I noticed how he emphasized the word 'my'.
"Of course. He's very dear to me, Your Highness." I mumbled.
"I see."
"Do you?"
"A little but-"
"I'm not trying to take him away from you."
"But you've already done that." He said icily.
"No. He's your human. I think he'll always be your human. But he's not bound to you. Kyle is allowed to spend time with others too. He's not a slave now is he?"
"No."
He thought for a long time. He looked at the grass, not saying anything further. The furrow on his brows made him seem to be thinking extremely hard about something.
"I didn't come here to end your life, Vidarr." He finally said. I was quite surprised to hear him say that.
"I actually came here to maybe apologize for what I did. It wasn't right."
"You wanted to see me hurt. Well, I got hurt." I whispered.
"I know."
"The thing is I would forgive you for everything that you did. Even if the mere thought of what I had to endure makes me sick. Yes I would forgive you no matter how much pain you brought to me and my grandfather. But the thing is, I don't know if I could forgive you for hurting Kyle. I don't know if I could forgive you for filling his beautiful eyes with tears. I saw the struggle he had to go through before he had to face the truth. That almost broke him down completely. I don't think you fully understand how much you mean to him." I let out a sad laugh. "He doubted me you know. When I told him who was behind my condition. That's how much he believed in you." I never once looked away from the prince as I spoke. He needed to know.
"So I gather we will never be on good terms."
"Never is a long time and life is too short. No Your Highness, you're mistaken once again. You see, I am not going to give up on the man I love. You shouldn't either. We both love him and that is okay. I'm not going to hate you for it." He looked somewhat guilty as I said those words. "I think we may be on good terms once you've made your peace with him-"
"He doesn't want that. Not after what I did to him."
"He will once he finds out what you've tried to do today. You don't like me and yet you're here, hoping for my forgiveness. But let's not pretend it's my forgiveness you're after. You just really really want your human back." For the first time, I gave the young prince a smile because for the first time ever, he looked like an ordinary twelve year old needing help.
"You're right. So....you will forgive me?" He muttered.
"We'll be fine when the human we both love is fine."
"I assume that is fair. You are a fair person."
"Teachers have to be." I said with small smile threatening to form on my lips.
"I would like to ask you someth-" He said stepping forward. He barely took two steps before he stopped dead in his tracks. His entire body froze and when I tried to ask what was wrong, he signalled for me to stop with his forefinger.
That's when I sensed something was terribly wrong.
"Your Highness, what is it?" I whispered softly hoping to get his attention. He was still motionless. Sensing for anything out of place.
"The ground, it's shaky." He said in all seriousness. That's when I felt it too. The faint rumbling beneath the earth. It was very subtle but we could feel it because we stood still.
"What's happening?" I blurted out, worried all of a sudden.
"Miss Vidarr, I think we need to-"
We never got the chance to say anything further, there was a violent release of energy, bursting with noise. It blinded us and threw us off the ground. I didn't know how far I flew, but one thing was prominent.
The intense pain that shot up my whole body. I felt like I was being ripped apart.
I couldn't open my eyes after the merciless throw. The ringing in my head prevented me from focusing on anything else. Seconds passed and all I could sense was the heavy black smoke that went into my lungs. My body felt like it was on fire.
Everything was painful. Coughing violently, I tried to get up but the ringing wouldn't stop and I couldn't see past the black poisonous air. It was like you were trapped inside a dark cloud. Puffs of orange blurs illuminated through the darkness every now and then but I couldn't make out what it was. I just had to get up. I had to get up and oh God!
"Pr..prince Ti.. Timothy." I called out but I knew no one could hear me. I was slowly losing my voice due to the smoke. So I tried to get up instead. Minutes passed and I was finally able to lift myself off the ground and take a few steps. It was then that the ringing in my head was replaced by something much more gruesome.
Screams of terror and anguish.
And I felt it all.
"Prince Tim...Timothy." I called out again, afraid the boy was hurt in any way. What I didn't realise was that there was someone looking for me, someone calling out my name.
Before I noticed who it was, my body gave out. I fell to the ground on my knees. They hit the rough road but I didn't care. The image of my grandfather came into mind. He was still in the school building. He should have been spared. He should have been. What the hell happened? Who would do this? How many had lost their lives in a matter of seconds?
Before my body completely gave out, I heard another explosion coming from the direction of the castle. That's when my body went limp.
~~~~~~
"Lilian! Lilian! Wake up!" I couldn't breathe due to the heavy smoke all over. My lungs and my body burned. Even my vision was starting to get blurry.
"Lilian stay with us!" I blinked a few times and realised that someone was cradling my head in their arms.
"Lilian if anything happens to you, Kyle will skin me alive. Stay awake for goodness sake! The car will be here anytime!" I looked up willing my mind to focus on the demanding voice. I knew that voice.
"Que...en Beth..." I wheezed out and coughed several times.
"Do not speak. Prince Timothy has gone to get help."
"My....my grandfather. Ple...please-"
"He's safe. Minor injuries but he's safe. Thank God he was inside the damn school. That paper structure is stronger than it looks." I blinked up and saw that she had a healing scar on the side of her face. It was almost gone except for the blood.
"Is she okay?" I heard another voice. The young prince had returned.
"She will be. We have to f*****g go! Now!" Queen Bethany shouted. I could no longer keep awake. I succumbed into the fatigue that was pulling me in.
"The car is here. You take Lilian. I need to go to the castle."
"What the hell Prince Timothy?! A part of it is blown off! I will not let you walk in there!" Queen Bethany shouted.
"My sister! She's still there! Give me five minutes at least!"
With that Prince Timothy disappeared in a blur.
Third Person's POV
Lilian was carried off towards an awaiting car nearby by two of Queen Bethany's guards.
On her way, she groggily saw the overflowing sorrow of the people she lived with. Mother's crying out loud for their dead children. Children looking for their parents among the blown up bodies that were scattered throughout the main square. There was blood and bodies everywhere.
Everything was red and black. Reflecting the toxic atmosphere of death and destruction. Dozens of shops were on fire and a number of them were completely blown off. Even with all that smoke, the smell of burnt flesh was still prominent.
Though her vision was blur, Lilian saw one of her younger students, crying over the body of her dead father. It was the little girl who always complained about everything to Lilian.
Neirin.
The girl was also badly hurt but her pain was not as important as her dead father. No one was there to give Neirin any form of comfort. They were all absorbed in their own loss. She was crying hysterically but no one came to her aid.
That was when the tears fell out of Lilian's eyes. She had never felt more useless in all her life. As a teacher, her sole purpose was to support her children. Now all she could do was watch as little Neirin desperately searched for help while sobbing uncontrollably. Neirin walked in circles and then came back to her father's body like a lost child. Her cries filled Lilian's head and it was a tune that Lilian would never be able to erase from her mind.
"Take her to the vampire hospital. Towards the east side of their town."
"Humans are not welcomed there my Queen." The driver spoke out after they were settled inside the car. He did not speak out of spite but mere concern for Lilian who now had trouble breathing.
"They'll have to face my wrath then. Just do what I say. I'll handle them."
~~~~~~~~~~~
Two hours Later.
"How is she?" The young prince asked. He was more than worried for Lilian. If anything happened to the teacher, Kyle wouldn't recover.
"She's going to be okay Prince Timothy. She'll need to rest for a couple of days. Her lungs need to be cleared." Queen Bethany explained.
"How are you Princess?" She then turned towards Princess Esmeralda who was sitting quietly beside her brother. She was dressed in her training attire but the blood splatter on her clothes were hard to miss.
"I'll be alright. And that can't be said for many others in the castle." She murmured with her eyes closed.
"Hey, you saved as many as you could sis. You did so much today." Prince Timothy held his sister's hand and continued to comfort her.
"You may see her now." A doctor came out if Lilian's room and informed the trio waiting outside. He had an irritated tone but Queen Bethany had no time to put the vampire doctor in his place again. That will have to wait.
They walked in and saw a weak looking Lilian lying on the bed. Her right leg was bandaged as it suffered a fracture when she was thrown due to the bomb's impact. Besides that she had a plaster on the left side of her head. It was her lungs that needed the real healing.
"Hey Vidarr." Prince Timothy squeaked out. He didn't know what else to say. They just had their first civilized conversation and this happened.
"H..hi."
"As soon as you're able to, you're coming with us to Silver Heights." Queen Bethany said.
Lilian looked at her quizzically.
"It's no longer safe here." The queen said again.
"I.. I'm not leaving...Your Majesty." Lilian breathe out heavily.
"Are you insane?!"
"Don't shout." The princess stared at the queen.
"She needs to come with us. Tell her!" Queen Bethany looked to the princess for help.
"I..I can't...."
"It's alright Vidarr. Just let me know why." Prince Timothy spoke up, noticing it was difficult for Lilian to talk. The teacher gave him a grateful nod and continued to speak her reason. In her head.
"She won't come with us because her family is here. Everyone she's ever known is here. She believes she has a responsibility to stay and help." The prince conveyed the message.
"Lilian, Kyle won't be happy..." Queen Bethany started.
"She needs to be here no matter what Kyle thinks. She loves him very much but she loves her family and all her students too. She says she would be a horrible person to abandon them in their time of need." By that time, Lilian was already crying as Neirin clouded her mind.
"She says she's not leaving and that's final." The prince looked at his sister and Queen Bethany.
"She's already upset. Let's not make it worse. We lost a lot of people today." Princess Esmeralda sympathised with the young teacher.
"She has a question though. What were you doing in near the school?" Prince Timothy turned towards the queen. Now, everyone there was as curious as Lilian.
"Right. Can I have some alone time with Lilian?" The queen suddenly said. Prince Timothy rolled his eyes, not appreciating his dismissal. The princess however nodded and left.
"Hey she can't talk so you need me." The prince popped his head back inside the hospital room.
"Prince Timothy! It's going to be a one way conversation so goodbye." The queen waved at him and he stormed off.
~~~~~~~
Queen Bethany turned to Lilian who just finished wiping her watery eyes.
"Lilian, I came to apologize for my behaviour towards you in Silver Heights. That wasn't fair but I had my reasons." The teacher simply nodded, accepting the apology. She realized that there were more important things in life and that life was indeed short. Today proved that anything could happen at any time and Lilian was ready to let go of negative incidents.
"You need to know why I acted the way I did." The queen said softly. Not wanting to torture Queen Bethany, Lilian held up a hand saying that there was no need for any explanation.
"Lilian I heard what you said to Prince Timothy. I wanted to talk to you but when he turned up unexpectedly, I stayed where I was and kind of eavesdropped on your conversation. I am so happy that you love our dear Kyle. That's why you need to know why I was so hard on you. I won't tell you everything though, I leave that to him." The teacher didn't stop her this time, she wanted to know.
In Silver Heights (Kyle's POV)
I was sitting in the living room with India. The royal members were having a so called meeting and they decided to abandon the common folks. You know what?! We were the most important people! I'm not a peasant!
"Oh gosh Kyle I can hear you!" India growled from beside me.
"But you....you can't read my f*****g mind!"
"I don't have to when you shout you thoughts through your big mouth!"
Oh I see what I did there.
"But you're right. I think we deserve to know their plans. But we can't blame it on Aeval. She just wants us to get a good rest and she doesn't want us to worry." India said.
"And we can't do anything to Darky because he'll burn the s**t out of us. So that leaves Alex. Can we give his royal ass a hard time for kicking us out?"
"Of course Kyle." India snickered. I already had a bunch of things I wished to do to the fae king. As my plans got more intense we heard someone walk into the living room.
We turned around to see the general. He looked so worried but mostly a mess. Like he ran all the way here from some other kingdom.
"India!" He exclaimed and rushed to his beloved witch. "I came here as soon as I heard." He knelt down before here and they both embraced each other. It was a sweet sight but I only cared about getting back at my stupid brother.
I then saw how Gabriel cupped India's face tenderly in his hands. He kissed her softly on the lips. I pitied him. He must have been so worried when he found out what happened.
"He's going to have a duel with me. I mean it. He had no right to treat you this way, India." Gabriel gritted out in pure rage. My friend held his hands and warned him not to do anything stupid.
She was right.
"Don't worry Gabby, my sister plans to destroy him for hurting India."
"Kyle, I really like you man but lose the name for goodness sake. It's General or it's Gabriel-"
"Or it could be Gabby. It's short and sweet and easy to remember. India agrees with my intelligence." I smiled widely.
"He's not gonna change a thing about your name, darling Gabriel." She placed her right hand on his cheek and smiled down at him. Gabriel groaned.
"Whatever. Hey let them know I stole India away. We won't be here until tomorrow." He suddenly spoke up. Before India could say anything, he told her that he needed to be with her and he wanted to take her someplace nice.
I nodded at them with a wicked grin and went back to my puzzle book.
