Chapter Thirty-Five Emma’s mood had changed dramatically. At the reception, she had been ebullient, unreserved, and bubbly; even a little gay from the champagne. As quickly as she put Richie in the car and got behind the wheel, she became someone else. It was as if she’d pulled away the curtain and revealed who she really was. She drove aggressively through the darkened streets, braking hard, squealing the tires around corners. She didn’t utter a word. She didn’t have to. Richie could sense the change in her.
