Chapter 3 - Rejecting Partnership

1305 Words
Emeka shifts his gaze away from Arinze to look at Silvia. "Good afternoon, sir," she greets him, standing in front of him. Silvia is a fair-skinned young woman, 25 years of age. Emeka sees Arinze's eyes scanning Silvia from her head to toe, while asking, "Yes, what do you want?" "Sir, the CEO of Black Diamond Entertainment House is here to see you," Silvia informs. Emeka questions, "And you're here to inform me about it. Why not place a call to me or tell him that I'm not around?" "I'm sorry, sir," Silvia replies. Emeka sighs and tries to keep his cool, replying, "Just leave my office and tell him I'm not available to see him, and that I'm in a very important meeting. Now leave! When next you repeat this mistake, then you have yourself fired!" "I'm sorry, sir," Silvia apologizes once more. Emeka groans, "Just leave my office and instruct him to leave." "Okay, sir." Silvia finally exits the office. Just then, Arinze bursts out laughing after Silvia leaves, questioning, "Why are you being so harsh to her, bro?" Emeka doesn't respond, instead switches on his computer to see what's going on in his company on the first to fourth floors. "Anyway, you have a very beautiful secretary," Arinze compliments. "Stop it, bro, and note this is an office!" Emeka warns, and his fist clenches. "So what?! Am I not allowed to admire God-given beauties just because we meet in an office?" Arinze questions. Emeka warns, "Enough, Arinze! Now leave my office because I have some important things to do for now!" "Really?" Arinze questions him with wide-open eyes, "Are you sending me out of your office, for real, brother?" "Yes! If you continue talking about God-given beauties, then you should leave, as I have some things to do now!" Emeka replies, coldly. Arinze then stands up to leave, saying, "Okay, brother, you know I cannot do without talking about God-given beauties as they're my major interest for now. So, see you at home tonight. Mother requested that we come home and have dinner with her." "Okay," Emeka responds, and Arinze exits his office. Emeka then checks the work progress of his entertainment house using his computer on his desk. So far, he doesn't have a girlfriend, knowing his mother wants to pressurize him about marriage. It doesn't interest him, as he has his own opinion and doesn't like women in general. Emeka thinks they're all flocking around him because of his money and not necessarily because they care for him, or want to see him progress either. "The women only want my money and fame and also to carry my family's name, as the Lonalds family is one of the biggest names in this state," Emeka says, sighing and continuing with his work after Arinze leaves him. Emeka recalls the lady he saw at the receptionist desk. He remembered how beautiful she looked. Even though she only packed her long hair into a bun. Her face had minimal makeup, and he cannot help but remember the look of admiration in her eyes. Emeka dislikes women admiring him, but seeing that young woman look at him, he feels different about it and doesn't even know what she came to his entertainment house to do. Emeka certainly hopes to see her again and to get a closer view of her pretty face, as she doesn't look classy or sophisticated like other affluent ladies he knows. He sighs and continues with his work, clicking on his keyboard to check the reports of the day. Emeka sees the progress of his entertainment company, and their musicians are trending, in the number 1-10 spot on the top trending songs of the week in their state, while their movies have surpassed millions of views and streams, and their broadcasting channels too have a lot of viewers. Emeka's happy and pleased with his achievements as he worked hard to build the company. Even though his father is rich, and he has his father's support. Emeka still strives hard to ensure to create better content out there for all their viewers and those who love to partner with him in his industry. He continues with his work, and a few hours later, his secretary knocks and walks into his office again. "Sir, the judges are through with the auditioning for the new casts for today," Silvia informs. "Okay, send me the file of the enrolled; let me see their names," he replies. "Okay, sir." Silvia walks out of his office, and she sends the file to him through her own computer. The file contains all the newbies selected by the three judges Emeka hired for the audition. Many contestants came to audition for their new movie titled "Time of Wind," and Emeka knows that it was not an easy audition because it was free and open to anyone above the age of 18 to enroll. The movie wants to focus on how one can grow from grass to grace. How a poor girl came from a humiliated family background who suffers through hurt and betrayals can end up marrying the richest man in her state. Emeka stares at the list of selected actresses' and actors' names, and only their names are written with no photos attached to it. Emeka kept staring and hoping to see the beautiful lady's name on it, then he's lying to himself as there's no photo to show him whom among the selected new actresses' names is her. Emeka skipped lunch just to focus on his work, and he switches it off, then steps out of his office, wanting to head back home. Just then, the CEO of Black Diamond Entertainment House enters into the hallway and sees Emeka. He walks up to see him again. "Emeka, Emeka... So you really don't want to see me?" Henry Raymond asks. "What do you want here? Can't you see that we're all busy?" Emeka responds, coldly. "Of course I know that you're all busy, but I came here to partner with your industry, and you don't even want to give me a listening ear," CEO Henry complains. "Hmm," Emeka sighs, looking at CEO Henry's face, before replying, "Go straight to the point why you would like to partner with us. I made it clear to you last time that I don't entertain partnership deals with you; it's as simple as that. If you want, you can shoot your own movie and not involve my company's name in yours." "Why are you being so mean to me, Emeka? It's just a business proposal to boost our companies. Most other entertainment houses do this too," CEO Henry explains. "Then go to them and stay out of my business. I have been noticing that you're literally copying everything my company does and promoting it out there! First, you copy my style of broadcasting; how my artists shoot their music videos and even get a matching name for your own signees; then, you're now trying to copy how we shoot our movies. Are you trying to partner, or are you literally wanting to steal our brand?" Emeka questions in anger, and CEO Henry laughs. "Steal your brand?!" CEO Henry laughs, seeing that Emeka isn't smiling with him, explains, "I'm not trying to steal your company; I'm just doing what the viewers want." "By copying us?" Emeka inquires. "No, that's why I want us to partner. Honestly, I like your style of production and want to be like you," CEO Henry admits, but Emeka shakes his head, warning him, "You can never be like us, and don't come here next time to ask for my partnership, else I will sue your company for theft. So kindly take your leave and never show your face here again!" Emeka walks away, leaving CEO Henry speechless.
