The Alpha's Broken Heart

I look up to the ceiling again awaiting the sun to rise. This is another sleepless night for me, my wolf constantly howling in my head and not telling me why. It's distracting and tiring. 'please Jake, PLEASE just shut up for a minute so I can work!' No response but the howling continues and it's frustrating me now. "stupid wolf" I mutter under my breathe as I get up. Now he is howling louder. 'great so your hearing me and ignoring me, just awesome.' I reach my desk and start working on pack matters. See, I'm alpha to one pretty big pack, the second biggest in the world actually and I also go to school which is totally unnecessary because I already have a job and I don't need a certificate for it, but honestly arguing with my Mom is something I hate more than Swedish dark chocolate and I despise Swedish dark choc- knock! knock! a muffled knock on the door rudely interrupts me from my rant about Swedish dark choc- knock! okay now I'm just done. "Come in" I say in my alpha tone, which makes me seem very cold and formal, which is why no one messes with me. knock! knock! did the person not hear me? That's impossible because any creature submits and obey an alpha tone, everyone knows that. I get up and open the door and it opens to reveal my baby brother, well my inventory baby brother. He is carrying what looks like a car engine? I'll ask him later because right now with Jake howling in my head, I could care less and I'm too tired to say anything. My brother, Hunter, walks in like he owns my office and lowers the item on my desk. "Good morning brother! you look... good - nah, too early to lie you look more horrible than usual, and that's saying alot" he says so carefree I feel like using his car engine to hit him. "Thank you, how generous of you. Now what in moons shine is on my desk?" I ask trying to act like I care. " Well I thought you would never ask it..." he goes on talking whilst I zone out, I wonder why Swedish dark chocolate is so nasty, but other dark chocolates are bearable. Nope! all dark chocolate is bad, I like milk chocolate though... "Hello Earth to ugly brother!" Hunter yells snapping his fingers next to my face. I glare at him and ask," What?! " a bit too harshly but I'm on edge okay! I can't help it. "Jeez! cool your beans. Just answering the question you asked." he says raising his hands in mock surrender. Sighing I say, "I'm sorry, what did you say?" I say sweetly trying to avoid a lecture about 'loving and appreciating family' from my Dad. "I said it's the science project I'm presenting to your class, you know because the alpha has to see it." he said emphasising on alpha because he knows I forgot. It's something the school does where great discoveries are presented to the alpha's class- which is also the beta's and gamma's class - because I have to approve it. "I know" I lied "No you forgot" he counters "No I didn't" "Yes you did" "No I didn't!" "No you didn't!" "Yes I did!" "See I told you!" he shouts with a triumphant smirk on his face. "What are you-" he interrupts my question, making me growl at him in annoyance. "You just said it" he says lifting his car engine. " Okay as much as I want to entertain you with my presence and rile you up," he says reaching for my head then messing my hair like I was his little brother," I have to go early to set up in your classroom that should be full in about mmh(checks imaginary watch) 30 minutes, so bye." He walks out and I check my wall clock which says '7:45! late again! he is so annoying.' I think as I rush back to my room and get ready in a simple ripped jeans, t-shirt, my nike hightops and a leather jacket -which are all black themed. I literally sprint into the kitchen grab an apple and water, kiss my Mom on the cheek who is rolling some dough, and sprint to my black Lamborghini and speed down the road which is thankfully only five minutes away if you drive as fast as most werewolves. I park and fly out into the main hallway. Immediately I enter everyone quiets down and bares there necks whilst bowing- a sign of submission to their alpha. I nod in approval and they all return to their chatting. I check my watch and see it's 08:05, 'gotta love me now,' Jake says in my head. 'Jake what's wrong with you? Are you okay?' I ask 'Yeah just felt excited about something, I think it's our mate! 'he says happily 'I don't think so it's been a month since I turned eighteen, maybe we don't have one' I say sad and a little disappointed 'Nope, don't say that moon goddess wouldn't do that to you, just be patient' he says calmly Before we can continue my beta and gamma walk up to me. Jace, my beta speaks first, "What's up man you look... interesting?" he says looking concerned."Nah I'm just tired Jake kept me up all night howling like crazy. "Hey that's the mating call!" Xavier says looking smug. As you can tell Jace is caring and responsible while Xavier is responsible and protective, he's just a little bit immature. "I just want to finish school already! Like why are we even here?" I growl out making Xavier smirk and Jace give me a pointed, motherly look. Jace is the only one who is mated amongst us and hence the visible maturity and softness that only a few get to see. "Nathaniel Bartholomew Whithers" he says sounding like me mother when she's scolding. "That's not my middle name Jace" I say trying to act innocent. "Doesn't matter, school is important and you have already lived though like 13 and half years. What's 2 more months?" he asks. I'm not going to lie, he has a good point. "Yeah right let's just go to class" Xavier says excited because he likes school the most out of all of us, even Jace. As we head to the classroom, I see Linda and her group of friends. She tries to wink at me but looks like she is having a face seizure. I look away before she thinks I'm interested. She is more of the annoying popular girl in the school who I kissed once because of truth or dare and now believes we are mates, she even goes around saying my wolf just doesn't realize it yet. I hear Jake scoff in my head and I stiffle a laugh. Once we settle in class I sit towards the back corner, it allows me to observe all activity and see all threats. I look at my baby brother who looks at me and smiles adjusting his glasses. He's nervous, I can literally see him shaking. I send him a smile and wink, a way we tell each other it's going to be okay. He smiles and instantly looks more in control. The teacher gives him the thumbs up to start. "Well my name is Hunter Whithers and I believe I have invented a new and awesome way to move through dimensions, it-" I suddenly hear Jake howling in my head. No matter how much I try to listen in, I can't. I start to blink alot and Jace throws a pen at me and I can't even catch it because Jake has me rather occupied. I look at Jace and he looks concerned and so is Xavier, which kind of shocked me abit but I couldn't concentrate on anything. "Nate, could you please help me assemble it?...Nate?" I hear him but as I stand I stumble a little bit not really noticable. I guess the lack of sleep is getting to me. I reach the front right by the machine and Jake gets significantly louder if that was even possible. I can see Hunter talking but all I can hear is Jake howling. 'okay look at his lips and try to read them. okay... open the cord... red button... blue don't use? no use blue cord... okay that's all.' I see him move to the side and look at me, he looks worried, I guess he can tell I'm not okay. I start by opening a cord looking thingy and the portal comes to life and it's kind of cool, I'll give my brother that. On the side, I reach for the red button and press it. As I do Jake gets even louder and I wince in pain. Now everyone is trying to ask if I'm okay through mind-link, but I can't concentrate to hear them. I grab the blue cord and look at it use or not use. I'll just use it. As I connect the blue I see Hunter running towards the portal and starts operating on it in a panic. I try to listen but Jake is to loud. I feel myself sway abit and I feel hands grab my biceps. I look up and see Jace and Xavier looking at my worried and shouting goddess knows what at me. I am about to pass out when I hear Jake quiet down to something like a chant. As soon as he quiets the most amazing scent of Jasmine and lavender sweeps past me and I immediately get up and look for the smell. I see the portal opening and it looks like something is coming out. I finally get a clear mind so I walk up to Hunter, "Bro, I'm sorry it was Jake howling and I couldn't hear but I need your permission to-" " I don't care I am not going to get eaten by some intergalactic thing that probably smells like my laundry!" he shouts interrupting. I smirk at him and grab the portal which was much heavier than it looks but not too heavy. I run into the hallway and I see other classrooms entering the hall, they must have heard my brother panicking. I see items entering through the portal. I was supposed to take it out and destroy it but I... Can't? It's like me and my wolf are both on the same page so I set it in the hall and stare at it. "Bro what are you doing?!" Hunter says "Nate what are you- the hell is that in there?!" I hear Jace say. I was half expecting Xavier to say something sarcastic but I was shocked to see him moving towards the portal by me and also stare at it almost... longingly. I can't help but feel the same, we both observe the portal and see them get closer. Jace tries to pull us but we both turn and growl at him and he and everyone backs away from us. I look back as the beautiful creature gets closer and the divine scent gets stronger. 'Beautiful? did i just say it was beautiful? Well it actually is...'
