I feel bad for how I'm treating him but I need to discuss Amara and I's new plan.
"We planned to pretend to be theirs and leave, then we feel in deep, are having their babies and now we still will have to leave them!" Amara says angrily. Whilst I was asleep I was contacted, mentally, by the council, they said that they need their princess to take her place as queen and their high priestess to do like wise. I'm obviously upset but Amara is fuming. Right now, we are currently painting our toe nails to make it look like we are actually doing girl stuff.
"I know but the council gets what they want, always. I don't want them to hurt us or our people. Or Nate and Xavier." I say sadly.
" But why are they showing themselves now? I haven't heard from them before, especially after-sorry..." she says angrily. It's true, they haven't done anything public since my momma passed. It's understandable, her confusion, the council was rumored to be dissolved, they haven't intervened, in any way, for about a century. I honestly thought they were dead.
"Why would they want me now, plus I'm pregnant, I can't go back there. It's risky and Nate wouldn't let me." I say getting annoyed with my situation.
"Neither!" she shouts glaring at my forehead. I burst into a fit of giggles and she joined me. As I was about to say something a knock sounded in the door. I sober up and walk towards the door.
"We brought the food! " Nate shouted. Amara places a ear on the door, even though her hearing is better than mine.
"Did you get the clothing bag I brought, Xavier?" she asks then places her ear back
" Yes, what is it anyway?" he asks curiously. I look to Amara and she shrugs
" Oh pregnant lady panties..." she says making a 'I'm lying' facial expression. Amara opens the door and I help her grab the food. They look so bored and helpless, reminding me of lost puppies. I almost cave but remember that the discussion is important. I close the door and start giggling slightly at their shocked expressions as the door closed in their faces. Amara opens her clothing bag and removes two onesies. One was a copper puppy and the other was a black one. I snatched the black one and slipped it on since I was wearing just a robe. I turned to Amara to zip her up and she did the same.
"Aww you look cute!" I gushed at her whilst she pouted her lip.
"Cute? Cute! I'm a woman. I can only be sexy darling." she said winking at me. I burst laughing and I rub my tummy, feeling hungry. I open the pizza box and scrunch my nose, it smells unappetizing. I open the chicken noodles and I have the same reaction.
"Is this all you got?" I ask praying for a no.
"No, check the cake." she says.' Cake! yes please! ' my stomach growls as I look for the box. It wasn't there.
"Amara it's not there!" I say pouting with teary eyes. I seriously need to stop that. She looks around shocked then she looks extremely pissed off. She walks towards the door and slams it open.
"Amara, what are you going to do?" I ask her slowly as I follow her with a pizza box. She descends the stairs, walks into the living area and stands in front of Xavier, fuming. His nose flares and his eyes snap open. I walk over to Nate, place the pizza box down and look at his sleeping form. Aww! He looks like a puppy. I zone in on his nose slowly and kiss it. His eyes fly open in alarm before he calms looking at me. He sits up and looks at my outfit.
"I see you want to be me huh." he says smirking lazily. I get confused before I realized Amara and I dressed as the colors of their wolves. How convenient...
"Where is my cake!" Amara shouts at Xavier. He sits up quickly and moves to hold her. She slaps his hand and pouts at him.
"Xavier where is my cake?" Amara whispers bursting into tears. Xavier looks sad as he gets up to hug her.
"It's in the fridge, I thought you would want the cream intact, love." he says cooing her. She nods and hugs him back. I look to Nate who looks extremely shocked. He shakes his head and turns to me. I smile at him and snuggle into his stomach harshly.
"Oof " he says as I knock the wind out of him. I look to him memorizing his face.
Should I tell him? Okay if I don't something will happen and he'll hate me, if I do he'll be over protective and he'll feel extremely bad if the council succeed.
"Amara, do you think we should?" I ask her suddenly. She looks at me and then at the guys.
" I don't know, what will happen then. And what if..." she trails off. I look at her and she's looking at Xavier who's face is scrunched in confusion, Nate's expression mirroring it precisely.
"Nate, we have to tell you something, you too Xavier." I say starting. Amara looks shocked at my choice but then I see her agreeing with me, at least I think she is.
"Yeah, we were contacted by a group of people, called the council..." she continues for me. I smile at her and she walks towards the kitchen.
" And this council, which hasn't intervened for centuries until now, wants us to..." I say but I'm interrupted when Amara walks in with the chocolatey chocolate goodness, heaven sent cake. I run to her and grab the box and spoon. I get a spoonful and place it in my mouth. Chocolate! I'm about to moan out of sheer delight but a clearing throat knocks me out of me reverie.
"What did the council do?" Xavier asks me.
"Well, they want us to go back. Nefeli is needed to take over as queen and I am to be appointed high priestess. Issue is we obviously can't go because; we're carrying the future of the pack and we can't leave you guys... " Amara said in her usual monotone voice. They sighed in relief and some color returned to their face.
"But, the council is known for always having their way, that's the where the concern lies. They are capable of doing anything to get us back and no one can arrest or condemn them. They are untouchable..." I say sadly. They pale once more and Nate growls pulling me to him, Xavier doing the same to Amara.
" We could hid you here, get a warlock to protect the house." Nate says quickly. Mmmh not the best idea.
"The council is made of the most powerful tribrids and demigods. They would be able to intersect a warlock's spell, plus they've done it before. They did manage to contact me, all the way from Olympus which should be impossible... Theoretically." I say pulling away.
" So we have undead Selena who's after you and the so called 'council' is looking for you!" Xavier says, stating the obvious.
" They know where I am, the person they have sent to take me hasn't just arrived yet..." I say looking down. So much for discreetness of location...
"But you can't leave the pack like this, you can't leave me... What about our baby." Nate says frowning at me. I hug him and think about my options. I feel my heart falling apart.
"The baby!" Amara shouts, startling us.
"What? Which baby, yours or mine?" I ask confused.
" The council was waiting for us to get pregnant before making us return. They want heirs and we have heirs in us. Those bastards!" she shouts pissed.
"Wait... That's what they did with our mothers!" I say fuming. I start considering that no one has fathers in Olympus. I understand why we don't have our spirits whilst we are pregnant, we would destroy everything if we got emotional, exhibit A, Amara and I.
Nate and Xavier's heads snap to the door and they sniff before facing each other and frowning.
"What? Someone here?" I ask looking between them.
" Go upstairs and enter the bathroom. Below the sink is a room sized compartment. Get in and stay quiet." Nate mind-links us and I see Xavier get extremely giddy. He looks like a kid in an aquarium, he is a fascinated kid.
I grab Amara's hand and grab Nate's pocket knife, whilst also successfully giving him a peck on the cheek. I run up the stairs and rush to the bathroom. I lock the door and turn to see Amara looking through compartments. I look under the sink and I don't see anything. I look at the counter connected to the sink and I see nothing. I stare at the large mirror above the two sinks and counter. I see my scared expression and look away ashamed of myself. A scared warrior? really!
" Amara where is it?" I ask panicking.
" Maybe it has a hidden entry?" she says unsure.
" Why wouldn't he tell us it's hidden!" I whisper shout. I look at the mirror and place a hand on the reflection of my face, feeling like a fallen angel. I notice my hand is sweaty, slightly messing the mirror. However when I look closely and see that there isn't a space between my hand and it's reflection. A bulb lights in my head as I reach to the end of the mirror, yanking it lightly. It shifts by an inch, so I push it harder with Amara's help, effectively moving the mirror. It lifts to the ceiling revealing a panic room. Amara crawls in first and I enter next. Once we land on the ground I pull the mirror downwards and it closes the entrance. It turns pitch black, only the peak of light from the see-through mirror. We sit in the middle of the room, cuddling each other for comfort. I hear the commotion going on downstairs. It sounds like they are fighting and I feel my breathing become labored. I withdraw from eavesdropping, noticing it's making me more anxious.
Silence...
Thump, thump, thump, thump!
We hear multiple heavy footsteps heading up the stairs, I try to look through the mirror in the dark. Failing, I hold Amara cold, trembling hand and make my way to the corner of the mirror and peep slowly. I don't see anyone, but I can tell they are moving around the bedroom.
"Nate! Is that you?" I mind-link him.
"Nefeli! thank god! Are you okay? No it isn't me, stay hidden." he says sounding breathless. I move away from the mirror, heading back to the center of the room, when suddenly, I feel pain shoot through my stomach and I collapse, making a loud thud. The footsteps start heading towards the bathroom. Amara crouches down to me and grabs my shoulders shaking me. I shake her back and she breathes out shakily. I get up limping and go to one side of the mirror, Amara going to the opposite side. They enter the bathroom and walk towards the shower, looking for us. The 'They' as we call them, look like lizards, and I swear on chocolate if they touch me with their slimy paws...
"Under the sink, that's what the beast said." One of them said, in a surprising Australian accent. 'How did they know? That's why Nate said it like that...
The other one nods and searches the sink, moves to the drawers and compartments. I hold my breath as my breathing gets too heavy.
"Aaah!" Amara suddenly shouts out, looking at her... broken hands? When did that happen?
Xavier.
The Australian lizards turned to the mirror and approach it. One places a hand on it, nods and then draws back a punch. I signal for her to hid in the corner. She squats in the corner and places her hands on her lap. I stand because my stomach is burning in extreme pain, my midsection wet with sweat, hopefully.
Smash! The mirror breaks completely and they jump in. I draw out my knife and look at the targets. 'Athena? Athena! I need your help... Athena? Oh nevermind...
I deliberately make my breathing heavier than Amara's, so they don't hear her. They walk in my general direction. I feel the need to spring for them but I stop myself.
'Okay, wait for it...' I tell myself as they proceed slowly.
' Wait for it...' I say again as they reach dangerously closer. I almost move to cover my mouth, they smell like hell and urine had a baby. Their sharp teeth gleaming slightly with their slimy, also stinky saliva.
' One... two... three...' I say dragging the three as the get even closer.
One of their heads snaps in Amara's direction, following her light gasp. I readjust my grip on the knife.
'Now!'
