The bell rang ending school for the day. I was excited to go to the mall not only to get me some clothes but also to start preparing for the baby. I hurried to my locker, placed my things in it and ran to Tucker’s car waiting for him to come. It took just a few minutes when I saw Tucker walking out of school with the soon to be Alpha, Brendon and his girlfriend Aerial. Tucker, seeing me, ran to his car opening the doors for me saying they were meeting us at the mall.
About 10 minutes later Tucker pulled into a parking spot, and Brendon pulled into the one next to us. We got out of the car and started heading towards the door making small talk. The first store I saw once we entered the mall was ‘Baby Gap,’ I glanced at Tucker “You know my aunts are having a baby soon, could we possibly go in there to get a gift?” I stated trying to be nonchalant. Tucker, catching on, replied “Sure she’s having a girl right?” I nodded yes then turned around to tell Brendon and Aerial we’d meet them somewhere in thirty minutes but Aerial pipped in “I love shopping for babies mind if I come with you?” “Sure the more ideas the better.” I replied, wasting no time to rush to the store.
After about 3 hours we had been to seven stores, got Kayla her first twenty outfits, most of them having a form of “Daddy’s Princess” written on them. Spending close to $600 (what can I say I love a good bargain) got me a few pairs of loose fitting outfits and Tucker some new shoes. We were about to leave when Tucker turned to me and asked “Do you smell that?” “Smell what?” I asked, trying hard to keep the pretzel down, I had just finished off. “I can’t explain it, it's the most amazing scent, almost like cantaloupe mixed with fresh summer rain.” He explained. Clearly baffled, I looked at him and saw the expression on his face could only mean one thing. His actual mate was close by.
I pulled him aside and tried to look deep in his eyes. He just kept looking all around trying to find that scent. “Tucker” I half yelled at him, which finally got his attention. “This is what I think is right?” Feeling my heartbreak little by little. “I’m not sure Ash, what’s going on?” He replied more confused. “You’ve got the look on your face telling me your mates’ close by. Go find her, but don’t tell her about Kayla just yet please. You heard what our wolves said, she’s special and I don’t want many people finding out just yet.” I replied, forcing tears back. “What about you, how are you gonna get back to the pack house? I don’t want to make you walk home Ash.” Tucker replied torn between destiny and family. “I’ll be fine. I'll ride back with Brendon and Aerial, go find your mate.”
Giving Ash a light kiss on her forehead Tucker went in search of his mate, leaving Ash heartbroken on the verge of tears. As Tucker was walking away Addy started screaming in Ashes head “Trent where are you going? Trent come back, don’t leave me Ash calls Tucker back Trent can’t leave me he has to come back to me TRENT TRENT TRENT.” “Addy, I can’t call him here. They've found their mate. It would be wrong for me to make them give her up.” “Ash bring Trent back to me he’s mine I’m not giving him up and I won’t let another female touch him. Ashes please do this for me.” Addy whined until she could no longer see Tucker anymore. “How could you just let them walk away like that.” Addy whined even louder. “Addy I’m sorry but when we find our mate would you like Tucker to keep us from him?” Ash asked honestly. “Ash I love you and you know I’d do anything for my mate that’s why I want Trent back he’s my mate.” Addy replied before cutting Ash off. Sighing, Ash turned to Brendon “can I catch a ride with you please?” “Sure, we’ll load everything in the car and head back now.” Brendon replied.
During the ride home Addy stayed quiet. Ashlynn tried to talk to her to get her to explain her earlier statement, but she wouldn’t respond. Once back at the pack house Ashlynn grabbed her bags, said thank you to Brendon and Aerial then went up stairs. When she went to put all the items away she was hit with immense sorrow and fell to her knees in tears, while Addy whined in her head.
After crying for almost three hours straight, Ash was finally able to pull herself together. “Addy, I know this hurts,” she started. “We’ll push through this. I have know doubt that Tucker will still be there for us and baby Kayla. I’ll even ask him if he’ll let Trent come out to see you every now and then, but we need to pull ourselves together and be strong. We’ve got to, baby Kayla needs us.” “Ok Ash, but this hurts so much. I can feel Tucker getting close to her but Trent’s hurting because he’s my mate.” “What do you mean by Trent’s your mate Addy?” Ash asked confused “Most werewolves have the same mate as their human side, that much is true, but Ash we’re different. Me and Trent are mates and sealed our bond little Kayla is proof of that. You and Tucker however are not mates which makes me and Trent hurt.”
Ash sat and for a while thinking about what Addy just told her. How can Trent and Addy be mates while her and Tucker aren't, that makes no sense. After turning this every which way and still coming up clueless, Ash decided to get up from the floor and start putting away the items she just bought. When she came to Tucker’s items she almost had another melt down, but forced herself to be tough. She grabbed his bags, went over and knocked on the door. When she didn’t get a response, she figured he was still out so she opened his door and took his items in.
TUCKER’S POV
“Tucker, what are you doing? Why are you walking away from my mate?” Trent asked, getting angrier and angrier inside my head. “Trent don’t you smell that intoxicating scent?” I asked, still in a daze. “The only scent I smell is gently wet grass and fresh flowers.” Trent replied Confused, I continued to follow the scent until I bumped into her. Now comes the awkward part since the only girl I’ve ever really talked to is Ash.
I started to introduce myself to her when I heard a low “Mate” spoken.
I looked into her eyes, man she was gorgeous. She had wavy brown hair, hazel eyes, and her face was narrow but the look she had told me she felt the connection I was feeling. “Hi I’m Tucker.” I finally managed to choke out. “I’m Christa, sorry about that my wolf got excited.” she replied lowly so only I could hear. “Would you like to go somewhere more private so that we can get to know each other?” I asked hoping she’d say yes. “Sure where do you have in mind?” Christa replied with pleading eyes. “I know of this great little stream off the beaten path we could go there.” As I was saying this Trent popped into my head “Don’t you dare take her to mine and Addy’s spot, it’s special for us.” “Or why don’t we just go to the football field that’s at the school I go to,'' I suggested.
“Anywhere but here is fine with me, I don’t like so many eyes on me anyways.” She said blushing. We walked to my car talking casually like we’d known each other for years. I pointed out my car then opened the passenger door for her, before going to the drivers side and getting in. The drive to the school seemed shorter with Christa beside me.
When we finally got to the school Christa’s eyes got big. “I’ve never seen a school so huge.” She simply stated. “It’s a pack school, we’ve got every grade here. So it’s bigger to accommodate every wolf school age,” I told her. “I’ve never been to a pack school, I go to a normal human school. It's hard keeping my secret there. Do you think your Alpha would mind if I came here instead?” She asked with a dream in her eyes. “I don’t see why not, I’ll mind link him and ask if he’d be ok with it.” I told her before I started the link.
“Alpha Jones, it’s Tucker, do you have a minute?” I asked in the mind link. A second later Alpha Jones replied, “sure what can I help you with?” “I’ve found my mate and she’s wanting to know if she can transfer to the pack school. She goes to human school right now but is having a hard time keeping our secret.” I replied through the link. “Is she planning to move to the pack's territory anytime soon,” came through the link. I dropped the link for a minute to ask her, “Alpha Jones needs to know are you planning to move to our pack?” I asked, unsure if I wanted to take that step just yet. “If I can come to school but stay at my house it would be better. My mom’s been sick and I help my dad take care of her.” Was her reply.
I opened the link back and relayed the message she just told me to Alpha Jones. “Have you told her about the baby yet?” Came his next question. “I promised Ashlynn that I wouldn’t tell her about Kayla just yet, I want to get to know her before I drop the huge bomb shell on her that I’m having a baby with someone that’s not her.” I replied. “Very well bring her to my office so I can meet her then we’ll discuss the option of school as well.” As soon as he said this Alpha Jones cut the mind link.
“Christa we need to go talk to Alpha Jones, he wants to meet you before allowing you into the school. Don’t worry though he’s a good Alpha and a very understanding man I’m sure he’ll accept you and let you come with me.” I told her as I started standing up. We started walking to my car still talking and getting to know each other better.
