Tension at the Airport
The sound of the door slamming echoed through the room, and Grace Anderson jumped, her heart racing as she looked around in confusion. Her mind couldn’t catch up with the situation. Was she being detained? She stood frozen, bathed in the golden rays of the afternoon sun that filtered through the windows of the interrogation room. Her pulse quickened as she tried to make sense of everything. Sitting at the interrogation table, a man in military uniform sat with an air of authority. His broad shoulders, decorated with two silver stars and three stripes, spoke of his rank. His face was chiseled, his skin a deep bronze from years of training under the harsh sun. His eyes, piercing and cold, left no room for doubt—it was Gabriel Kingsley, the man she never wanted to see again. The picture-perfect embodiment of power and control, Gabriel had once been a figure of admiration in her eyes. But now, in her mind, he was nothing but an obstacle, the one who had caused her flight to turn around. Grace wanted nothing more than to storm up to him, to grab him by the collar and give him a piece of her mind. How dare he interfere with her life again? “You’re despicable!” she blurted out, but the words stuck in her throat when his cold gaze met hers. In an instant, she felt her courage draining away as if the very air had frozen. His gaze, intense and unyielding, made her feel small and powerless. It was as though she had done something unforgivable, something she should regret, but she couldn’t fathom what. No, Grace, don’t let him intimidate you. You have every right to freedom. She raised her chin, forcing her fear aside. “Let me go! You have no right to keep me here!” But even as she spoke, the words felt hollow, as if they lacked the conviction they needed. Behind the table, Gabriel clenched his fists, but his expression didn’t change. With a calm precision that unnerved her, he stood and walked toward her. His tall frame seemed to block out the sunlight as he loomed over her, the shadow of his presence enveloping her. “Miss Grace,” his voice was smooth, but its weight made her stomach twist. “You are suspected of carrying materials that pose a threat to public safety. I’m afraid I must search for you. I ask that you cooperate.” Grace’s mind raced. Did someone report her? Of course, it had to be him—Gabriel. But no matter how she felt, she wasn’t going to back down. She took a deep breath and raised her eyes to meet his unyielding stare. “A search is fine, but you will need a female officer for that.” “Given the seriousness of the situation, I must conduct the search myself,” Gabriel said, his words deliberately sharp. Before she could protest, his hand shot out and, in an instant, he had her in his grasp, lifting her effortlessly into his arms. Grace struggled, her heart pounding in her chest. “Hey! What do you think you’re doing?” she demanded, her voice shaking with a mixture of anger and fear. Gabriel’s face was unreadable as he spoke again, his voice low and steady. “We have reason to believe someone might be carrying a bomb, possibly hidden in… a more personal area. For the sake of national security, I’ll have to conduct a thorough search.” Grace's eyes widened in disbelief. Is he serious? This man was insane. She felt both furious and helpless in his arms. But deep down, she knew that Gabriel wasn’t just the man who held power over her freedom—he was also the man she had once trusted with her heart. And now, here he was, pulling her into this tangled mess once again.
