The car tyres screeched to a halt as he alighted. His mom was waiting outside as usual as he alighted with a smile.
"So good to have you back", she opened her arms and he walked in and embraced her.
"It's been boring here", the older woman pouted.
"Exactly why you should have travelled with your husband when he asked", he laughed at his mom's expression.
"Oh Ethan, you know your father. He'd be drowned in work that I'd regret tagging along. That's why you must be different. Be nice to Gina", she smiled as the walked in.
"Yes mother", Ethan Anderson laughed, taking out his phone to text Gina already. She'd been on his mind all day.
"Care to grab lunch? I'm back" - he sent a message with a smile, already imagining her joyous demeanor when they'd meet.
"Yayyyyy!!! Sure!!!!" - Gina replied him almost immediately.
Ethan laughed, dipping his hand into his suit's pocket and getting out the ring box.
It's high time he puts a ring on her finger. He was proud enough to know she wouldn't say no.
Ethan smiled and climbed up to his room, but right outside the compound and outside the gate, across on the other side of the road, a car was parked with its tinted windows all closed up, and on the inside he sighed.
"He's back".
.
.
"What's that?", Anna snuck up behind a grinning Gina who hid her phone immediately.
"What?" Gina scoffed.
"Is it him? Your boyfriend?", Anna smiled tugging at Gina's shirt, "come on, just take me with you. I only want to say hi. We never hide things from each other remember?", she pouted, causing Gina to sigh.
"Fine. He just got back to town, he's been away for days, don't say anything weird or overdress", Gina warned.
"When have I ever overdressed?", Anna grinned walking over to the closet to pick an outfit.
At exactly 4pm, they were both ready. Gina sighed looking at her best friend.
"This is not overdressing right?", Anna laughed as they left. Gina had earlier texted Ethan to not bother about picking her up.
Chez Elite - the nicest french cuisine in Oakdale. The cab halted just before it and they bought alighted, Gina walking in first after paying.
Anna's eyes roamed the place and soon landed on a back that looked so familiar. Trailing behind Gina, they got to his front and hell!! It was really Ethan Anderson!!! Those blue eyes and....
"Wait...", Anna's eyes widened at realization, watching the two love birds hug.
"Hope you don't mind, she just came into town and would be staying with me. She really begged to come along", Gina pouted at her boyfriend.
"Sure", Ethan finally looked up at Anna. "Anna Presley, right?", he smiled charmingly as ever and extended his palm for a handshake, which she nervously took.
"I slept with my best friend's boyfriend" - her intestines knotted at the thought of it.
"I've heard a lot about you", Ethan smiled and Anna felt disgusted.
"You've heard so much and still f****d me!!!"- she badly wanted to yell that and slap him hard across the face and wait a minute..
"How the heck is he even dating Gina?!!!! Ethan Anderson. THE Ethan Anderson!!!!!" - Anna screamed in her head.
She was in no way trying to discriminate Gina but the math wasn't mathing at this point. She wouldn't even believe it if Ethan was to ask her out.
"Not that I'm better than Gina, but.... Urghhhhhh!!!" - the thought annoyed her.
Gina cleared her throat and Anna realized she was still holding onto Ethan's palm.
She chuckled nervously and withdrew her hand. They all sat. He'd already ordered wine and the waiter came to take the rest of their order. Anna kept sipping from her wine, watching the two lovebirds chat and giggle, and even worse Ethan seemed normal. He wasn't shaky nor did he spare her a glance. How dare he two-time best friends?!!
"So how was your trip in today?", Gina asked but Anna butted in with a scoff.
"Today?"
"Yeah. He got back to town this morning. I told you", Gina arched a brow and Anna sniffed, gulping down her wine.
"He's a liar as well", she mumbled.
"Did you say something?", Ethan asked and she'd have pounced on him that moment but she gave off a dry laugh.
"What can I possibly say", she smiled and he nodded.
From the corner of his eyes, Ethan could feel her glaring hard at him and she'd been doing that ever since they sat down.
"What's her deal?" - he scoffed within as the waiter returned with their order, gently placing it on the table but mistakenly pushing Gina's glass of wine that it spilled on her.
"Are you blind?", Anna scoffed dabbing Gina's clothes with her scarf.
The young man apologized as Gina dismissed him with a wave of hand. She sighed but was grateful she didn't go with the white gown she had earlier wanted to.
"Excuse me", she smiled at them and left for the bathroom.
"Did you really just come in this morning? This morning? Really?", Anna scoffed at him.
"You've heard so much about me and yet .. yet.. last night", she scoffed even louder, unable to say the words herself.
"Last night?", Ethan arched a brow, having zero idea of what she was talking about.
"Yeah! Last night!", she snapped.
"What are you talking about? You've been glaring at me ever since", Ethan scoffed this time.
"I could kill you instead and feed your loins to vultures", she sneered. "If you don't love Gina then let her be. How could you disgustingly do such knowing I'm her bestfriend and shamelessly sitting over there smiling about hearing so much about me, huh? How many other girls have you slept with, huh? How many times have you lied to that sweetest soul about traveling out of town? Does Gina look stupid to you? Is she a toy to you? You should never play with a lady's feelings no matter how low to your standards you think she is? Did she throw herself at you? She told me how you guys met and...."
"I'm back", Gina announced cutting her off as Anna turned to her with a smile.
"It's better now", Anna smiled.
"Did something happen?" Gina asked staring at the two but Anna shook her head with the loveliest smile, turning to face Ethan who couldn't believe her one bit.
"What could possibly happen, right?"
"Hmm", Ethan hummed completely amused.
Anna sat seething in anger, glaring daggers at Ethan throughout the meal as he and Gina chatted all the while. Soon they were done and he offered to drive them home, kissing Gina goodbye as they got to the door. Anna rolled her eyes at him.
"Are you jealous he's dating Gina?" - her conscience mocked her as she shut it off in anger.
Patiently waiting for Gina to get ready for her night shift, Anna anticipated the many ways she was going to kill the young man. Both she and Gina had been through a lot in the hands of men who thought they were so good looking and could act anyhow they pleased. Not this time. She could have anyone mock her and treat her less but not with Gina.
"I really think you should have waited till you got the job", Gina sighed stepping out of the bathroom.
"It's fine. I could stay a day more in Kingston. I don't regret quitting, besides who would reject me. I know I'll get the job", Anna smiled. She had applied to the hospital Gina worked in and she really prayed to get accepted. She couldn't bear wasting her time here. Oakdale General Hospital paid the best here in Oakdale.
Soon, Gina got ready and left.
Anna waited a few minutes to be sure she had definitely boarded a bus or cab and headed for the hospital. She jumped into the bathroom and did her thing, coming out and getting dressed in her finest red silk short gown with tiny straps for hand. It hugged her body perfectly and stopped mid thighs, having a little flay round it's hem.
She picked her favourite pearl choker and had her pretty silk hair flowing down her back as she chose a white sneakers for level ground, as she was going to war.
Completely satisfied with her look, she finalized with a red lipstick giving her the crazy feisty look she had in her head. She stepped out. Only God would save Ethan Anderson right now.
