Lady Adelle Charlotte Vassilis was born as the only child and sole heir of the prestigious House Vassilis, one of the most powerful ducal families in the kingdom. Intelligent, graceful, and raised to inherit her father's title, she spent her life preparing to become the next Duchess of Vassilis.Believing in love, Adelle married John Vlahos, a charming nobleman from a lesser house. She entrusted him with her heart, her future, and her family's legacy. It was her greatest mistake. The moment the marriage secured John's position beside the future Duchess, he changed. He became distant, dismissive, and increasingly absent from their home. Rumors of his affairs spread throughout high society, yet John remained unconcerned. Why should he care?Everyone believed that once Duke Vassilis passed away, John's wife would inherit the duchy—and as her husband, he would effectively rule beside her.Confident that Adelle would never leave him, John openly flaunted his mistress and spent lavishly using the Vassilis family's wealth.Unfortunately for him, he underestimated one thing:Adelle Charlotte Vassilis was not a woman who forgave betrayal. For years she gathered evidence of his infidelity. The final blow came when she discovered that his longtime mistress was carrying his child.Instead of weeping, Adelle calmly drafted divorce papers. When she presented them before the duke and the royal court, John refused. He begged. He threatened. He demanded. But Adelle presented undeniable evidence of his adultery and the pregnancy of his mistress. The court ruled in her favor. The marriage was dissolved.Stripped of his noble privileges, titles, lands, and connections, John Vlahos was reduced to a commoner and cast out alongside his pregnant mistress. For the first time in years, Adelle was free.Yet freedom came with loneliness.Society whispered behind her back."The abandoned duchess.""The woman no man would marry.""The failed wife."Adelle ignored them all and focused on governing the Vassilis territory. Then, one year later, fate intervened.During a diplomatic summit, she met David von Baratheon, the Crown Prince of the neighboring Kingdom of Baratheon.Unlike John, David never saw Adelle as a means to power. He saw her.The capable duchess who governed an entire duchy. The woman who rebuilt her life from betrayal. The lonely heart hidden behind an elegant smile. As their paths continue to cross, mutual respect slowly turns into friendship, and friendship blossoms into something neither expected. For the first time, Adelle experiences a love built not on obligation, but on trust.Unfortunately, not everyone welcomes her happiness.John, now living in poverty, becomes obsessed with reclaiming the life he lost. His mistress grows resentful as she watches Adelle rise higher than ever.Foreign nobles seek to prevent an alliance between House Vassilis and the Kingdom of Baratheon. And when Adelle becomes the target of a deadly conspiracy, David realizes that protecting her is no longer merely a diplomatic duty.It is personal.Because the woman once known as the abandoned duchess may soon become something far greater:The future Crown Princess of Baratheon

Chapter 1: The Mistress's Necklace
The Remarried Duchess Chapter 1: The Mistress's Necklace The grand ballroom of the Vassilis Estate glittered beneath hundreds of crystal chandeliers. Tonight was Duke Alexander Vassilis's sixtieth birthday banquet. Nobles from all corners of the kingdom had gathered to celebrate the head of one of the most influential houses in the realm. At the center of it all stood Lady Adelle Charlotte Vassilis. Elegant. Graceful. Untouchable. The midnight-blue gown she wore perfectly complemented her silver jewelry, while the ducal crest embroidered upon her sleeve reminded everyone exactly who she was—the future Duchess of Vassilis. Yet despite the smiles she offered her guests, her eyes remained distant. Because the seat beside her remained empty. Her husband had not arrived. Again. The whispers had already begun. "Lord Vlahos is late." "He missed the spring festival too." "I heard he spends most nights in the capital." "Perhaps the marriage is not as happy as it appears." Adelle ignored them. Years ago, such rumors would have hurt. Now they merely exhausted her. "Are you alright, my daughter?" Her father appeared beside her. Duke Alexander Vassilis was a towering man despite his age. The concern in his eyes was obvious. Adelle smiled gently. "I am fine, Father." "You are lying." She sighed. The duke had always been able to see through her. Before she could answer, the grand doors opened. A servant announced loudly. "Lord John Vlahos has arrived!" The guests turned. John entered the ballroom wearing a perfectly tailored black suit. As handsome as ever. As charming as ever. The same man Adelle had fallen in love with years ago. For a brief moment she wondered if perhaps she had been wrong. Perhaps tonight he had come for her. Perhaps he would finally try to repair their marriage. Then she noticed it. A necklace. A ruby necklace hanging from the neck of a young noblewoman walking several steps behind him. Adelle's eyes narrowed. She knew that necklace. Because she had purchased it. It was a custom-made piece crafted by the kingdom's finest jeweler. A gift she had ordered for herself months ago. A gift that had mysteriously disappeared before it could be delivered. Now it was hanging around another woman's neck. The woman smiled as if she belonged there. As if she had every right to stand beside Adelle's husband. John noticed Adelle's gaze. For a fraction of a second, guilt crossed his face. Then it vanished. Replaced by annoyance. As though she were the one causing trouble. "Adelle." He approached casually. No apology. No explanation. No greeting kiss. Nothing. "You are late." "Business." The answer came immediately. The same excuse he always used. Adelle looked toward the woman. "And who is she?" The woman curtsied elegantly. "Lady Elena Roswell." A minor noble. Young. Beautiful. Perhaps twenty-two years old. Several years younger than Adelle. John spoke before anyone else could. "She is merely accompanying me." The duke's expression darkened. Even the surrounding nobles exchanged uncomfortable glances. A married man arriving at a family banquet with another woman was already inappropriate. Bringing her into the ducal estate was an insult. Adelle simply smiled. A calm smile. A terrifying smile. One that made her father immediately recognize danger. "I see." She turned away. "Enjoy the banquet." John frowned. That was all? No argument? No jealousy? No tears? For some reason, her indifference irritated him more than any confrontation could. --- Later that evening, Adelle stood alone on a balcony overlooking the gardens. The cold night air brushed against her skin. Behind her, the music continued. Laughter. Conversation. Celebration. Yet she felt strangely detached from it all. "Lady Adelle." A familiar voice spoke. Her personal maid, Clara. The woman looked nervous. Very nervous. "What is it?" Clara hesitated. Then handed over a folded letter. "We found this among Lord Vlahos's belongings." Adelle accepted it. Slowly opening the paper. The moment she read the contents, the last remnants of hope inside her died. > My dearest John, I missed you last night. The baby has been restless again. When will you tell your wife about us? — Elena Silence. The world seemed to stop. Adelle stared at the words. Again. And again. And again. The baby. Not a rumor. Not a suspicion. Not an affair. A child. John had gotten his mistress pregnant. For several moments she simply stood there. Expressionless. Then she folded the letter neatly. Very neatly. Too neatly. Clara's face paled. "Milady..." Adelle looked toward the ballroom where John laughed with several nobles. Completely unaware. Completely confident. Certain that she would never leave him. Certain that the future duchy was already his. A soft laugh escaped her lips. Not a joyful laugh. A dangerous one. The kind that came before a storm. "Clara." "Yes, Milady?" "Prepare copies of every financial record involving my husband." The maid blinked. "Everything?" "Everything." Adelle's eyes turned cold. For the first time in years. "Also gather evidence of his affair." "Milady?" "From this moment onward, I want every movement of John Vlahos documented." Clara's heart pounded. She had served Adelle long enough to know what this meant. The lady was no longer trying to save her marriage. She was preparing for war. Adelle looked once more at the letter. Then at the ruby necklace glittering around Elena's neck across the ballroom. And finally at her husband. A man she no longer recognized. A man she no longer loved. A man who had just sealed his own fate. "Father was right," she whispered. "I should have divorced him years ago." End of Chapter 1
