chapter-2

It was pretty dark outside, I was sitting by the kitchen counter with a coffee in my hand, overlooking the garden. I am a pretty late sleeper but from the past two days, I have had trouble sleeping. The nightmares started again, so instead of sitting in my room and drowning in sorrow I come into the kitchen and drink coffee. The nightmares had stopped but now it looks like you cant get rid of your demons so easily. The same dream over and over again, like stuck in a loop.

I just sighed and got up from the stool and walked up to the sink and washed the cup, if the leave the cup then my sister would know I am waking up in the middle of the night again, she already has a lot on her plate I don’t want to bother her.

After washing and wiping and placing everything back I went up to my room to get some sleep.

Something deep inside me was telling me that this trip was going to change everything, for better or worse I dint know yet, and slowly I fell into a deep slumber. Surprisingly I dint get any nightmares after that.

I could hear some commotion…someone was climbing the stairs

“Slowly, you will wake her up!”

“Oh please, she sleeps like a pig”

“Shush!”

“You shush! Don’t shush me!”

Ah! My sister and my best friend Hannah, they are probably planning something again. Same as last year and the year before that. It always surprises me how they pulled it off, with my sister working 24/7 and Hannah always by my side. When do they get the time to plan all this?

I could hear my room door open slowly and soon the duvet was pulled off my body.

“ugh, let me sleep!” I complained.

“And let my hard work go into vain? No. Now get your lazy a*s up.” Hannah scolded.

“shut up Hannah” my sister glared at Hannah.

“well, you told something else last night sweetie” Hannah smirked.

My eyes bulged out of my head, wait are they- are they?

“OMG,” I jumped out of bed, now fully awake. I looked at my sister who had a similar expression. “are you- are you two doing it?”.

“oh god no em, Hannah are you out of your mind?”, Kate glared.   Uff, if only looks could kill.

“no em, we are not. Only I wish” Hannah turned and winked at Kate, to which Kate only shook her head, disappointed.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY EM!!!!” Kate screamed and rushed to hug me and soon joined Hannah with the same loud whale scream.

“you are squeezing me to death…ugh…I can't breathe” I laughed out loud. “now where is my cake and gifts?”

“right in the kitchen, I made the cake” Hannah smiled.

“omg, is it edible? Wait, is the kitchen okay? Did you burn it down?” I laughed to which Hannah smacked my hand.

“okay enough you to, now get your asses down and let's celebrate” Kate spoke.

“Okay, but the first person to the kitchen gets the biggest slice” Hannah squealed and ran downstairs and I chased her followed by Kate.
