A few days later………
*BEEP**BEEP*
I stretched and slowly opened my eyes; the sunlight gave the room a soft golden glow. I had been waking up to this since the past 18 years; I really am going to miss this.
I got up with a grunt and made my way to the washroom. As I was reaching for the toothbrush I noticed the healed wounds on my wrist, every time I look at them I can’t help but remember the past, even though it happened years ago it feels like yesterday.
Looking into the mirror I stared into those dark brown eyes and a small smile played on my lips. I did it. I was finally going to the university I’ve dreamt of and for the first time I felt hopeful and I was not going to let anyone ruin it for me. Not the wounds, not the past.
I washed up and chose dark charcoal jeans and a white tank top. I brushed my hair and they hung on my back in their natural wavy manner. I looked at myself in the mirror one last time and went downstairs to the kitchen.
As I entered the kitchen the strong smell of coffee filled my nostrils and instantly lifted my mood,
“Good morning, sleepyhead” my sister Kate, giggled from the other side of the counter while preparing breakfast.
“Morning” I replied with a smile and adjusted the glasses I wore.
“What are you smiling about?” she joked as I was not a morning person.
“Today’s my last day here, am trying to be positive” I replied as I filled my mug.
“Ah, yeah…” she gave a sad smile and added. “I am just a phone call away you know that right?”
“Yeah, but in a different country” I mumbled.
She shook her head and walked around the counter and hugged me tightly.
“I love you, you know that right?” she whispered.
“Yeah, it’s just that I will miss you” I replied as a tear strolled down my cheek.
“Hey, don’t cry. I will be right here and you have Hannah coming with you right? You will be alright Em” she assured.
I returned the hug and nodded, “I love you too”.
My sister and I were really close, even though she was 5 years older to me. She has always been there for me. Our parents died in a car crash when I was 15 years old. A careless drunk driver crashed my parent’s car down the cliff. I remember not eating for days together. But my sister was there for me, she took care of me and started working at a very young age so that I could full fill my dreams of going to London.
5 years later my life has completely changed. I graduated early from high school with my best friend Hannah. We both worked off our asses in college and now we both got into the same university in London to complete our masters. My sister has a great job at a corporate company as a manager. She really worked hard for it and I am really proud of her.
My life was pretty simple; little did I know London had other things planned for me.
