CHAPTER 30
Gembert arrived at the apartment with breakfast. The two women who had been with him on the first day they’d met wheeled in a cart and set the food out on the short table by the sofa.
“Won’t you join us, chamberlain?” Blodwyn offered.
Gembert waved off the invitation. “Thank you, but no thank you. I’ll return in an hour. Have you a plan in mind for this morning?”
“Actually, we were hoping to speak with Elma.”
“Of course. She is staying in the room next to her sister and brother-in-law,” Gembert said. He stood stiff, arms at his side. His skin was red, splotchy, burnt from the time exposed in the icy cold conditions.
Mykal and Blodwyn sat on the sofa side by side, picking at the fruit, cheese, and nuts.
“If there’s anything else?” Gembert asked.
