CHAPTER 13 A smoky mist clouded Mykal’s vision. He wasn’t sure if it was just a film over his eyeballs. His heart beat faster inside his chest, and his breathing became quick and shallow. His skin felt clammy. Beads of perspiration dotted his forehead. He swiped his forearm across his brow. Everything shimmied and swayed. The main room in the apartment made him wonder if he was underwater. He leaned forward onto the table and pushed up onto his knees. Slowly, he managed getting up to his feet. He held his arms out, like a bird spreading its wings. Wobbling, left and right, he kept his footing. He swayed but did not fall.
