Chapter 5

We made it to the nursing home on time and were chatting as we got our patient list ready when Mandy walked in and said, “You guys are here early.” I looked at her then said, “You’re here early too.” She smiled then said, “We have a guest coming today.” I rolled my eyes and Jane said, “Why didn’t you tell everyone?” She smiled and said, “I’m in charge of showing him around today.” I walk away and leave them talking. I begin to make my rounds when I bump into a man. He has black and gray hair, hazel eyes and looks fit for an older guy.  I say softly, “Sorry about that.” He glares at me then says, “Why is there a blood sucker in a place like this?” I look him in the eyes and say, “What do you mean by that?” My nice personality was now turning sour. He smiled then said, “Are you taking advantage of the elderly here?” I inhale deeply and say as his scent hits me, “Why would a mutt want to know that?” He smiles and says, “So, you know what I am.” I nod my head then say, “I have better things to do than to entertain a mutt.” I see him smile again then I walk away. 

I do my rounds and go see Mrs. Brown who loves having me near. As I walk to her door I hear her talking to someone. I knock and she says, “Come in.” I open the door and find the man sitting next to her. She smiles at me and says, “Alice, this is my son, Carson.” I sighed softly then said, “I knew you were a werewolf and I was okay with that since I figured you knew I am a vampire.” She nodded then said, “My son told me that there was a rude vampire taking advantage of the elderly and I was not sure if he had bumped into you.” I smile then say, “I bumped into him but he is really rude.” She gasped then said, “Carson, what did you say to her?” He gave me a dirty look and said, “I called her a blood sucker.” Mrs. Brown frowned then said, “I have taught you to respect all creatures, son.” He smiled then said, “Please forgive me.” I looked at Mrs. Brown then said, “Ok.” She smiled then said, “Alice, I have a favor to ask you.” I nodded and she said, “Can you attend the Alpha ceremony for my grandson in my place?” My smile vanished and I said, “That would not be prudent on my behalf.” She sighed understanding then Carson said, “You see we have invited some vampires to the ceremony in order to make a pact.” I looked at him concerned and then said, “Who did you invite?” He smiled then said, “I made a request for Elder Ivan and Darius.” I sigh and say, “That’s fine. They will be able to do peaceful negotiation.” He nodded then said, “I also requested for the Princess but was told that she was unreachable at the moment.” I smiled then said, “I wouldn’t put my hopes in her.” He said, “I think she would be great for the pact.” I look at him confused then say, “Why is that?” Carson smiles and says, “We want a wedding pact.” I let out a small laugh then say, “You are better off without that Princess. Everyone knows she doesn’t like wolves.” He smiled then said, “Who knows maybe she might change her mind.” I smiled then said, “If you would excuse me, I have to do more rounds.” They give me a small nod and I leave. 

I continued with my rounds and decided to let Jane know I brought lunch for us. I walked to the staff room and as I entered I saw Erick with a group of vampires talking with Mandy. As I walk in they all look at me and recognition is shown on all their faces. I say courteously, “Hello.” Mandy rolls her eyes then says, “Mr. Druitt, this is another employee. She also takes care of patients here.” I give them a fake smile and make my way to the fridge. Erick says, “What is your name miss?” I look at him with my fake smile then say, “My name is Alice.” He grabs my hand and raises it to give it a kiss but I immediately shake it and remove it. He frowns and I say, “I have to go, excuse me.” Mandy gave me a glare then said, “Let’s continue with the tour Mr. Druitt.” He nodded and I left the staff room. 

I went wandering around looking for Jane when I bumped into the man I was hiding from. He smiled then said, “Alice.” I walked away from him but he grabbed my hand. I immediately felt the electricity and tingling begin to take over my body. He got closer to me then said, “Don’t run away from me.” I took a deep breath and as his scent enveloped me I  turned to him then said, “You need to stay away from me.” He smiled then said, “Can’t do that, sweetie.” I frowned then said, “You know what I am.” He nodded then said, “I know.” I pulled my hand but he would not let go. I said once again but with despair in my voice, “What do you want from me?” He smiled and said, “You are my mate.” I froze, then said, “That’s impossible.” He leaned in and kissed me. 

My body melted into his kiss and as he pulled me closer I felt everything fall into place. I slowly moved away from him and before I said anything I heard Erick’s voice. I grabbed his hand and ran to his grandmother’s room. His father was still there and I said as I entered, “I’m sorry.” I pushed him in and then dashed out of the building trying to get some air. My body screamed for his touch but I knew that I could not allow myself to fall for anyone. Ever since I learned I was only being befriended by people that wanted power and the only reason someone was near me was for my power I decided to stay away from my world and live as a human. James was the only person that I allowed near me since I saved him when his family was ambushed and killed. I tried to save them but I was too late and only managed to save him. He became a personal servant and a very close friend to me. We became inseparable and that caused him a lot of issues from other guys but after I nearly killed one of them for bullying James they stayed away. I made sure he learned everything I knew and made sure he knew how to fight. He became like family to me and my parents allowed it seeing how he was very loyal to me. 

When my family was ambushed he was by my side and he helped me protect my mother and escape but my father was killed while he diverted the attention of one of the attackers. Ever since that day I didn’t allow my mother to go anywhere alone. She suffered a lot due to my father’s passing but I took over for her for the time being. I ruled as the Princess for a decades but  my mother finally came back and she decided to take over and let me enjoy life before I was to take the throne again. I told her of my desire to see the human world and she allowed it. During the time I ruled I had won many wars and I had gotten a scary reputation because I was merciless and cold-hearted. I ruled with an iron fist but I was also very smart and managed to make a lot of good deals that made us even more rich. I was considered a child but by the time my ruling days were over I had created a legacy that everyone talked about and I had my own personal army aside form the Royal Army. Looking back on my old days I realize that I never had anyone by my side aside from James, my mother and Hanna, my personal aid. I really am a sad person.
